Is the first Rambo a war film ? It's more action no.... If it is I will have to fit it in here.
Could go on either list but to me, it's more action than a traditional war movie despite the film not having that much action in it.

Just tallied up the first 5 page. Positions 1-4 I think have their place secured. But the final position is VERY close between 5 movies... Any of them can take it. The current 5th spot is 2 points ahead of 6th...

Why you gotta do that? :(
Just acknowledging it's a great action film but doesn't quite make my top five. I knew Die Hard was my favourite and Face Off would definitely be in there, after that there are many that I hold in similar esteem.

If anything I feel I've given more modern entries shorter shrift - films like The Bourne Ultimatum, Mad Max Fury Road, The Raid or maybe even Casino Royale likely deserved closer consideration.

I'm surprised by the lack of The Raid votes. Probably one of the best modern martial arts films. It's so fecking good.

Thanks to this thread I could finally convince my GF to watch Terminator 2 together.

Here's her review.
Good:
- The humor
- The plot was more interesting than she expected

Bad:
- "OH GOD NOT ANOTHER CHASING SEQUENCE"
- Me speaking half of the dialog lines along the actors

1. Aliens
2. Matrix
3. Die Hard
4. Terminator 2
5. Bourne Identity

No matter which way a list like this looks wrong. Terminator and Die Hard should both be number one. As should Aliens and Matrix. And what about Rambo, Gladiator, Apocalypse, etc, etc

I don't trust your tallying up. You've been bullying everyone into voting for Nic Cage's hairpiece.

No love for Tarantino at all. Did i miss a genre?
You seem to like him A LOT. Apart for Kill Bill, I wouldn't really think of his flicks as great action films, Pulp Fiction will probably make it into the crime top 5.

Which ocean would you prefer to drown into?
If it helps, I really like his early work, I just think he disappeared too far up his own ass from Basterds onwards.

Great thread! The categories do mix a bit - so does my top five.

1.) Apocalypse Now
2.) Space Odyssey 2001
3.) Raiders of the Lost Ark
4.) Touch of Zen
5.) Le voyage dans la lune

I'd say his movies mostly fall in other categories. Stuff like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown definitely qualify as crime movies, then there's Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight which are sort-of westerns and I guess Inglourious Basterds counts as a war movie. Once Upon a Time is more of a comedy. The Kill Bills and Deathproof are his only movies I'd call action.

I might have missed it but so far it doesn't seem like anyone has mentioned any John Woo films.
Face/Off & The Killer have votes. A few others probably too.

Why did she need a Redcafe thread to watch it

I have been petitioning for it but no, I'm honest in the tally. Spoiler... It won't make it :(

Would have been interesting if we weren't able to see peoples lists. Feel like I was skewed a little bit.

Action is a tough genre though, so many good ones. I feel like the others will be easier.

Just do it by year and make it a long-running, once a week thing.

Genre just doesn't work. People voting genre need their heads checked.

Re: Kill Bill. The real shame I think is anybody voting for it instead of the dozens/hundreds of wuxia/samurai movies it was basically inspired by.

Of course I don't expect everyone to have seen them but for me it's Tarantino's least original, and probably most boring, work.

I did consider this but it would limit conversation and recommendations (already added a bunch to my personal watchlist) and at the end of the day, that is what this is all about.

I did put a poll up and I think it's like 75% in favour of genres so yeah, democracy.

But we can still have fun mate, get your list in!
