Gaming Resident Evil 9: Requiem

Yep, I can’t beat this game on insanity level without infinite ammo. So I’m going to cheese the platinum.

A very mild criticism but I feel there’s a missing difficulty level between standard classic and Insanity. Standard is tough at times but nothing major whereas insanity is , well, insane. Barely any ammo, and with an entire clip you’ll be lucky to take down one zombie. I love that the items are in different places but there’s too much stuff there thats just bs.

That’s my next challenge, pretty much the only trophy I need now.

Will say the approach to a new game is weird. No new game plus option, so you start a new game and certain things carry over. But then if I wanted to start a brand new game from fresh there is no option?

I don’t think they did a good job at New game +. Having to pay for all the weapons again is weird.

Not really a spoiler but for those doing a second run there are a few tricks you can do to shorten this incredibly annoying section of the game

Yeah they botched it but hopefully it will get patched

Orphanage section is the worst part of the game. By far!

I've been watching speedrunners to this for a bit. I'd learn the run myself but I hate that section so much. When I first got there I put the game down for 2 days. It was a crazy decision to put it in to show such a tiny plot point. Completely unnecessary and ruins the pace of the game.

Beaten it 3 times now. Once standard and twice insanity. It's very much a what could have been game for me. Very clear they ran out of either time or budge towards the end and the final sections are quite weak as is the boss.
Bosses in general are quite poor but thats a Resi standard at this stage.

Really enjoyed it overall but last couple of hours and the section posted above take it from a high 9 to maybe an 8.5 for me. I think 7 and 2 Remake are better, 4 remake as well. Still its a continuation of the franchise return to form so I'll take.

Agree with that. I have a suspicion that they may have originally been thinking of an RE semi-open world game with that Leon section in RC. There were rumours of an open world RE game years ago and I’m thinking it might have been a recycled idea after they decided against it? Whatever it was, it was the weakest part of the game for me besides the orphanage section.

An 8 out of 10 for me. I’ve seen a lot of people put it in their top 5 RE games but it’s not quite there for me. That’s not an insult either as it’s been a pretty damn good series overall.

Agree on the open world and I feel like the orphanage was a part cut from the main plot. It does feel a little like a lot got moved around and cut from the original plan and cobbled togetheer at the end.

Yup definitely more hits than misses. I dunno if it'd be top 5 for me, but I prefer it to 8, 5, 6, 3 and probably the og without the nostalgia.

I thought it was great. A really fun hybrid of 2 and 4. The Grace sections were definitely the best though and the first half was better than the second half. And the final boss was a bit naff. But just a really enjoyable video game that it feels like they don’t make enough of anymore.

The best Resi ever.....after Resi 4, and it runs that close.

Absolutely shitting it as Grace and being a one man army as Leon. Just a brilliant game.

Did you play it on the S2? If so, how was it performance wise? Somehow more interested to play it in bed at dark..
Yes. In terms of scare factor, I was jumping out of my skin in most Grace sections whilst playing handheld (with headphones). I did try it docked for a little while but I just don't find that as effective in terms of scares.

As for actual performance, I don't have a PS5 so I can't compare but it was generally fine for me. There were a couple of rooms where it dropped frames but nothing that ruined the experience. It mostly ran super smooth.

The next installment should have Barry as the lead.

RE10: The REbirth of Barry Bur10.

Thanks DS. Sounds great. My other option would be PC but that‘s mostly playing at the desk or super seldom on the big tv screen. Switch2 now and maybe Pc for graphics later during a fire sale. (If it‘s really that good, which it seems to be)

Finally got round to starting this and whilst it's beautiful to look at and incredibly tense (playing as Grace in the Care Home) I'm already struggling with the inventory in classic RE style.

Am I being thick or am I seriously expected to trek back to the storage case in the safe room every time I fill up my space? I've already discarded multiple bullets and empty bottles because I found something that will obviously be integral to opening a door or something and didn't want to leave it behind.

The first box isn't actually that far away from most areas once you learn the spacing. I think there's a second box that you can also find a little later into that section.

Also, use requiem bullets. Not really a spoiler but...

Don't be an idiot like me and save all your requiem bullets. I had close to 20 by the final boss and didn't even need it. I shot the boss with it once and realised other weapons are more suitable.

I'd not use any requiem bullets until the very end of the care home section. They are needed in darker places later on...

That said, it's well worth your time finding ways to kill the two big boys.

Requiem Bullets? Is that for the big gun that you only have 1 for?

Also it's a bit mental that there's a device that allows you to craft bullets using blood  (which is where i turned it off last night)

It makes no sense. However, if you get a chance to upgrade anything, upgrade that!

Yeah when you have that blood device and rare metal, you can create requiem bullets, which are really powerful. Use them when you feel like you need them, because the further you get in the game, the less need you have of those.

Is one of these said big boys the
butcher
guy?

Shit my pants when I realised he wasn't confined to his room and started stalking the corridors.

Just finished the campaign. I think this will go down as my 2nd favourite RE game after the RE4 remake. Leon’s section were a great throwback to RE4 and Grace’s sections were an enjoyable version of the survival horror style of Biohazard. Hopefully won’t be too long before DLC.

Is the RE4 remake any good?

Yeah it’s excellent. It’s more action horror as opposed to survival horror, which was one of the big changes at the time when the original came out. Even though it’s a remake, you can’t really tell as from a gameplay point of view it plays like a very modern game and obviously looks amazing.

Hmm nice! Pretty sure it was on a super cheap sale recently.

I really wanna play it but Switch only has the original.. Hopefully gets ported over soon along with 2&3 remakes.

Wtf is this lame hide and seek kids section?

Keep getting caught in the hallway. Think I've died more times here than anywhere else.

You need to let them spot you then go hide again under the table
You don't even have to. You can just turn the corner, look at them without alerting them, then leave the hall and listen for the door sound. Go back and they're gone. Unless it's been patched...

Still haven’t finished it. But have had so much fun as Leon!

I don’t know if you’re past it now or plan on playing the game again but there are some tricks on YouTube for shortening this section.
