''Man United must score, they always score''.
Tonight I spent an hour or so on YouTube watching old clips of United. Most of the clips I watched was from the 1999 season. You know how YouTube works!
On one hand you watch with fond memories and on the other hand it can sadden you how poor the team has been for 10 years now. As a fan, that's a part of it. There's ups and downs.
That team worked so hard for one another. They would not give in. So many players contributed to that season. The amount of times their backs was against the wall to fight back with resilience and determination to get the win. I think it's fair to say they weren't all ''superstars'' but they were a team with amazing spirit and work ethic.
Keane's performance against Juventus, perhaps one of the greatest performances a player has made in a United shirt. He inspired all around him. To have our captain miss a European cup with all the influence he had. To be 1 nil down when 90 mins hit, to find a way to win in less than 4 minutes at the end of the game shows how strong their mentality was.
Time will tell and hopefully Ruben can instil all these traits back into the culture of Man United. Our clubs history tells us, every now and then the right man comes along and takes a grip of the club.
How far away do you think we are from seeing a great United team?
I think some players in the team have these traits. Bruno, Maguire have shown resilience. We need more of them.
