All of the 'keep our women and girls safe' brigade lamenting the death and paying tributes to 'a titan'...who beat up his partner and published (separate) national articles talking about his desires for underage schoolchildren, and questioning whether watching child porn is 'really such a crime'.

I won't be shedding any tears.

He was a proper leftie. Didn’t like a lot of what he wrote about, but he was a very interesting voice, and always enjoyed his columns.

If you're prepared to not only ask that question in general but to also display it out in wide-reaching print so that it can be read and asked to the general public and you have no shame or compunction about doing so, you really need to consider the life-decisions that led you to this point in your life.

I think the people trying to defend him for "satire" or humour forget, or likely don't know, that article he wrote about child porn was after Townshend and some other celebrities were being questioned due to multiple CP operations and he was clearly running interference for them.

He was defending those people and trying to muddy the water. He did the same thing with the Stephen Lawrence trial, and god knows how many times before and after.

He wasn't some great thinker/writer, he was just a mouthpiece for their little circle that likes to protect each other. And people still wonder how Saville got away with it all those years...it really hasn't changed.
