Rio Ferdinand

Has his Vibe with 5 team disbanded or is this just a summar hiatus?

He has rebranded it and slightly adjusted it - now all more linked to his name and has 3 - the group thing - his own one on one interviews and his reactions to games and events

Summer break, they will be back this weekend.

Cheers both. Great to know as while I don't generally tend to watch fan channels, the banter between those 3 is great to watch

I'm not a fan of Howson, but it is refreshing watching two genuine United fans back their players whenever an Arsenal fan tries to drop in a sly dig. I'll definitely continue to pick and choose when to watch Vibe with 5 depending on how well United are doing. In other words - I barely watched it last season.

Appears Vibe with 5 is gone.

Howson has come on the new show once, but now the replacement is typically Rio, Joel and a guest. Wonder what happened there

I am no fan of Howson but that show was OK with them 3. Joel is weak on his own but good with Howson

Think Rio fecked it a bit by changing it. It will only now be good for interviews that channel

Agree - the chemistry between that trio was brilliant. Definitely much better than the sum of it's parts

Now wait for some desperate quote in the "posts that feel sexual" thread.

Vibe with 5 was actually quite enjoyable. Now it's just like every other dull former footballer "podcast". Funny seeing the complaints in the youtube comments every time he uploads.

Vibe with 5 had a good balance. Wasn't trying to be too serious or something it wasn't.

Only a matter of time until it's brought back imo based on the comments.

I think Rio is trying to turn his YouTube into an Overlap clone, so Howson had to go.

But it does feel a bit dry, I’ve not managed to finish any of his videos so far this season.

It had the "banter" without going to the awful extremes of say the Peter Crouch podcast, which started off great and became absolutely appalling, just beer adverts and unfunny lads lads lads shite.

I think Rio would make a good presenter. His interviews on his channel are a lot better than his punditry. If Laura Woods ever leaves TNT he would be a good replacement.

Have that still got Steve Sidwell on there and relentless BrewDog segments?

Good vid that, Rio gets far too much hate from United fans. He's a legend, and he's also good fun to listen to.

Good chat about pressing and other tactics. Comparing United players with tactics used by other clubs.

I watch this video at least once a year. Listen out for the roar from Rio.

Hosting some really brilliant ex player interviews recently. I think it helps the interviewees that Rio is very comfortable in his own skin.

Also that the players he interviews all know him well or at least see him on their level. He appears to be genuine friends with most of them.

Came to Hong Kong for a Red vs Red (United vs Liverpool legends) game yesterday, came off injured early second half, hope he’s ok.

We lost 4-2, but it’s great to see some of the favourites. Rio, Vidic, Carrick, Berba, Saha, look in great shape; Kusczcak and Brown less so.

Does he get hate?
He does. I posted a video about Nesta saying that Rio was a better defender then him and there was some serious pushback. I guess the caf knows more about defending then Nesta does

Also read negative comments about his punditry and how biased and emotional he is about United, yet Neville gets criticism for the opposite.

That's a different matter altogether. The problem with United's pundits is that they try too hard to make themselves look down to earth. That means minimizing their achievements something that fellow pundits are more then happy to exploit. Gary Neville is not the average former player. He's a guy who dominated the RB of the most successful British side of his era. 8 EPL titles, 3 FA cups and 2 CL didn't came out of nowhere. They were earned. Was he the best player on the pitch? Surely not. However he thrived at United at a time when the club had the finances to easily replace him. Thus he is a remarkable player that deserves respect. He's neither Carragher let alone Richards.

With Rio I believe that its a cultural thing. The Brits seem to hate players who let their talent do the work for them which is crazy considering that players like that are absolutely adored. Same thing can be said about Scholes whose still entangled in the Gerrard vs Scholes vs Lampard debate till this very day. Outside the UK its a no brainier. Rio was a better player then Vidic (who complimented the former greatly and was WC on his own) and Scholes was better then both Gerrard and Lamps

Gary Neville is far too humble about his own career. Probably at least partly because he was in a team with giants of the game, and compares himself to them. And probably a bit of that fading trait of people with a working class background that it's bad manners to brag. He was a key part of the team that dominated English football for two decades. He's achieved and experienced far more than 99% of pundits have.

Highlight reels and shows like MOTD drove peoples opinions of certain players not too long ago. Goals/scoring opportunities and last ditch defending is what makes it into the highlights. So unless you had actually watched a match, that is all you had to base your opinion on.

Vidic saved games with some last ditch defending and made the highlights. He also had a tons of dominating performances where he didn't make a last ditch tackle or something and wasn't even featured in the highlights. Rio had far more of the latter. So didn't make the reel as often despite being far more influential on the match the majority of the time.

Same with Scholes/Gerrard/Lampard. Scholes was scoring as many goals as Gerrard and Lampard until he dropped deeper and became one of the best deep-lying playmakers in the world. Not something anyone outside of United fans noticed until Barcelona started dominating football.

With the amount of footage and analysis churned out via social media these days, it would be impossible for the likes of Scholes and Rio not to be elevated if they played now. On the flip side, if Bruno played played in that era he'd probably be talked about as one of the great PL players of his generation based on his highlights.
