The bass player knew absolutely nothing about it.

And the accusations have been there since the very early 2000s.
And we'll absolutely know because it's all coming out.

You need to give my post a second read. Whether the bass player knew or not doesn’t change my summary of what happened.

Tell me more about it “all coming out”. Have you inside information?

The guy was infamous. Half of dublin has a story about him. He was basically hitting on women 24/7 non stop. And they were pretty consistently very young. 18 generally, he was hanging around pubs, but the idea that he strayed below that a few times is entirely plausible if not clearly established. He behaved like the horniest 12 year old, he was the least dignified person you could ever imagine.

I decided while we were experiencing a surge in stories to tweet about “reframing the music industry”. Some of the women understood my implications and sent me their stories of Glen.

Some were DMs. Some were already published tweets. One was an email. A story echoed that of Harvey Weinstein’s abuse. She was a teenage girl invited up to his hotel. She went, assuming she would be hanging out with him. He assaulted her and when she was able to stand her ground he stood across from her seething. She left terrified.

Another time out at a bar, a woman told me he had given her a burner phone so he could contact her away from her parents. She told me of the years of therapy. Other friends confirmed they had heard the same. It seemed once you had the cajones to mention it first, a wave of allegations would come. The word “open secret” was used regularly. Of women who were once teenagers like me, in love with the Irish music scene and full of the bliss and naivety of youth now shaken and devastated.

Recently a woman told me while interning in a music venue as a teenager she was told to “stay away from Glen” as his predation on young girls was an open secret and known to staff.

It's obviously not great but I don't particularly like how people are taking now to shit on a beloved Irish musician like this.

Can you imagine the Brits reacting like this when Jagger, Robert Plant, McCartney etc. finally pop? And we all know they fecked many an underage girl back in their hayday.

EDIT: He's obviously a wrong'un, I should clarify, I'm not defending him, this shit is bad, it's just weird it's being so viscerally thrown at us now.

It is all a bit depressing. It does seem as being a famous rock/pop musician and not being a wrong 'un over the course of a long career is a bit of a rare thing. Men, eh?
 
Sure wasn't he lamping his co-star from that movie when she was 16? Fairly common knowledge he was a bit noncey I think.

Is it not just normal pushback because of the all the "beloved Irish musician" mourning that's going on? Makes complete sense that people with bad experiences of him don't like seeing that.

This whole converstaion is about power dynamics and entitlement, so yeah, in your place of work being asked in the open, would you feck a colleague is harassment at the very least. The arrogance to feel it's ok to ask that question directly is also very intimidating, especially to someone who was already a victim, and if the stats are correct, so many women are 'victims' of vary degrees. I can understand her rage when the eulogies pour in, because as has been said, it was an open secret, and this unbridled gushing negates all that she has experienced and feels.

Yes, I do. I know people who moved in the same circles as him in the very early 2000s. I think I already said that.

Because of defamation laws AND the general default of our society to not believe women.

Just look at the fervour that fans of him come at women with when they're just starting to share their stories.
No wonder so many never do.

There's absolutely zero indication of that.

No. She took it down because of the abuse she was getting.
She posted about it on instagram.

And there's no libel. It would be defamation, and under Irish law you can't defame the dead.

I'm 5' 11" and used to have red hair (still just have hair, just no longer red). Make of that what you will, but I think we should give Pogue a warning for insulting another poster, just to be on the safe side.
