Roberto De Zerbi

How so? I haven't watched them but curious as I see they're 3rd in the league which is an improvement on last season. What are the expectations? Surely not win the league in his first season?
Put it this way: With the way he is rated by the football media fraternity and a number of fans he should be above Adi Hutter in the league. With a similar strength of squad

PSG are in a league of their own so finishing above them is never a valid judgment measure

He’sa good coach. His actions may be questionable at times but I don’t see what you’re looking at to say those that wanted him “don’t know football”. He was one of our top choices had we replaced ETH that summer, so maybe United don’t know football either. AC Milan mustn’t know football. The true football geniuses are sat on RedCafe.

He’s also took Marseille from 8th (iirc) to third. It’s not even like he’s failing there either.
With Greenwood. Who’d be by far our best forward if he’d stayed

Well, tbf, last season was a fecking shambles. The season before they finished 3rd and the season before that they finished 2nd.

They have a very strong squad and the second highest wage bill in the league. It's fair to say that they're around where you would expect them to be in the league.

I thought he done a good job initially at Brighton, and it was good to see, given the British media made out that the relatively unknown foreign manager could never live up to the imperious Graham Potter. I think his football - initially anyway - trumped anything Potter ever played. But, as time went on, they got absolutely thrashed a fair few times, and he seemed totally incapable of trying anything different when they went on an absolutely horrible run in his second season.

For me, he looks ok, but he's naive and has limitations. In no world would I have wanted him here. If he goes to AC it's hard to say how he would do - managers in Italy rarely last particularly long, barring the odd exceptions like Inzaghi.

Tbf, you have to be a bit crazy to take Marseille job. Its poisoned chalice however you look at it. Sampaoli and Marseille parted ways in 2021/22 when Sampaoli got them to 2nd place (after they finished 5th the previous season) and Tudor resigned himself after finishing 3rd the year after with Marseille knocking PSG out of the cup and being relatively close to them for large part of the season. The reason was constant power struggle within the club between the board/players/fans/etc and he had enough.

Here is what OM president said few months after Tudor left the club.

“He found himself at a club where everyone was against him, from the inside and outside. Many people organized themselves to increase the tension against him. People were asking for Jorge Sampaoli to return, while others wanted to give power to the players.
“There were requests to fan groups to oust the coach. When I returned to Marseille, I felt that pre-season was like the 37th matchday of the championship, you had to play for your life. It’s not normal.”

The expectations in OM are and will always be bigger than reality most likely. It is one of the most difficult coaching jobs in the world imo.

That said, both Tudor and Sampaoli were doing better points wise than De Zerbi this season.

Just to add to what was debated all along the way. I think he is a solid coach, but overrated. Definitely nothing so far points to him belonging in some elite category. Also, his comments about Greenwood puts him in a "wanker" type of figure, so no thanks.

He's a good coach, think he would have been a success at United especially given the experience of already managing in the league.

Unsure if he fell out with the hierarchy at Brighton but could be a familiar pattern with Marseille. If like Tuchel this is a regular occurrence of his, then he'll be a short term option for whichever club he moves to next.

Good manager. Bit of a loose cannon. So he might of been too much for the team we have as they are so mentally weak. But his Sassuolo team played great football and he took Brighton in europe. I think he might get the Milan job this summer. Bit OTT how much people are hating on him in this thread.

They are back in second.

Roberto De Zerbi: "Thank you to all the fans, to this great stadium. It's been a tough week, they kept applauding, pushing us, we're together in victory and defeat.

”In our defeats, I made mistakes too, but our obligation is to always give everything. For this stadium, talent is not enough, you need work and passion. "
