Roger Fernandes

Funny that people seem to have decided he's a midget because Transfermarkt apparently says so. Looks physically well matched to his opponents in Portugal at least, doesn't look like height would be an issue to me. Players with physicality, great touch, and a bit of character sound like good players to be signing to me.
~170 for a winger/wing-back isn't that short. People were weird about the size and physicality aspect before they even saw him play. He seems very promising, still raw - same as Quenda, just Quenda played in CL etc already, so people just saw him on bigger stage*.

Knew of him last summer due to his end product. Looked a bit raw but was getting assists from crosses as a right winger. I didnt realize he had been playing a lot of games at wingback this season making this far more realistic. I think he looks a bit more technical than Quenda, especially with his ball striking and finishing

He definitely looks smaller than most of his opponents. But probably taller than the 1.66 that transfermarkt says.

I think there's no probably about it, he's way taller than 5ft5. If I had to guess he's at least 3 inches taller.

His fbref report is very impressive.

Hope this is a sign of having lots of alternatives to transfer targets. We’ll always be able to walk away from stupid negotiations.

Does he look more technical? I agree that his finishing is probably better but his dribbling, touch etc. look a lot more chaotic than Quenda.

I think so. To me Roger looks like he's young and raw but might get towards the kind of bracket Amad and Saka are in eventually. I dont see that with Quenda. I dont think he has that potential. Like Roger he has the speed, and he can come in and find a pass or a good ball but I see very basic technical ability.

Elanga please.
He’d be very good in this system but he’s now a £50m player. Hopefully someone else buys him for that and adds funds to our transfer kitty, although with Forest likely to be in Europe I now doubt he’ll be going anywhere in the summer.

He’s not 50m for us.

Would Elanga work in our formation?

He's working well as a wide striker in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. But not sure I see him as ideal for a #9, #10, or WB in our system? Would the way we set up get the best out of him? I see a similar issue to Garnacho - where to best fit them in?

RWB.

I can't wait to see a good old roger in on the caf when we sign him.

Think that would probably be the best position, yeah. Not sure how his defensive positioning is for a WB, but certainly works hard tracking back as a winger / striker.

I mean, there isn’t really much thing as a wing back. Any player you sign to play there will almost certainly be a full back or a winger. At the end of the day, the two threads on prospective signings for that role here are both left-footed wingers, who couldn’t e further from what you would expect from a RWB.

Elanga is a vertical player with monstrous physical attributes and can provide good supply from the right. I think he’s exactly what we need for the role. Someone like Valencia basically.

I recall we missed out on Quaresma before we signed Ronaldo.

I wonder if this works out the same.

I don't believe there were any credible links that we were going to sign Quaresma at the time, other than the usual gossip headlines that "United are watching Ronaldo and Quaresma". Both he and CR7 were admired here on the CAF. Thankfully, Fergie selected the correct one.

Use to love it back then when we signed players based of them rinsing us. It’s a good way of actually seeing a player in person.

Yeah I massively disagree with that. His touch, control, passing looks way less consistent and way less refined than Quenda.

I'd liken it to Dorgu in that regard, there's definitely moments when you can see the potential but quite raw - the only difference is that Dorgu's a unit physically and so he can often get away with it. This guy isn't...

Are we sure we’re doing the right thing signing all these young players. We do need some experience aswell
not served us well recently and if we rae going to struggle around 10th spot i'd rather do it with kids

Yep +1. He's still quick and pace covers up many flaws in a player. Maybe it'll work out.

Him or Frimpong at this point (given the release clause) this guys stats though he looks like a menace

Honestly, make do with what we have and develop our own and prioritise midfield.
Amad, Dalot, Mazraoui, Kamason, Mantato. More than enough there in terms of numbers, but hopefully one of them can prove themselves to be a quality option as a starter.

I'm not so sure Dalot or Mazraoui are the best fits in terms of profile.

We need a ball carrying wingback that can dribble and carry the ball.

Dalot, Mazraoui don't fit that profile. The only player that does is Amad and he will arguably be better suited as the RF position.

crazy thoughts....the wing back position is absolutely vital in this system and we need guys on the outside with pace and ability to carry the ball like a winger

I don’t think we’re finishing below 10th next season. Top 10 we’ll come. Funny thing is no one can predict how other teams will be, like city fell off loads this season which has opened the gap for teams like Newcastle. Forest, Bournemouth. All to challenge for top 4. Liverpool won’t be as good next season if Salah does leave and Arne needs a rebuild.

He looks decent from what I've seen but he's all left foot. Call me old fashioned but I like to see a wing back that can go on the outside.

Frimpong is the ideal signing for this system given how much he shined playing this role for Leverkusen

I think we need someone who has better physical capabilities than Frimpong

This doesn't make sense. He plays well in the CL so why would his ohysique be a problem? He's small but makes it up by being super fast. Roger isn't a giant either.

The UCL is not the PL and I have made zero observations about Rogers physique (given I have never seen him play). Also one of our main issues at the moment is the physical floor of the side as the manager has mentioned on multiple occasions.
