Compared to the statues we have upfront Lukaku is a natural forward . Martial seems to think standing still in the box is all you have to do .

Rashford tries but the instinct is rarely there to get into the right postions at the right time .

I stick up for Ole a lot but just cannot defend the decision to sell a proper central forward and expect Rashford and Martial to be anle to replace him

Massive improvement than when he was here but that compilation is not exactly a shining example. It's mostly basic back to goal hold up play with awkward technique and touch. Don't get me wrong, he's doing it as good as he can but the pressure from the defenders isn't Premier League quality or intensity.

He's doing well getting regularly game time, trust from his manager and playing in a functional team in a generally weaker and slower league.

Have you actually watched Lukaku?

As far as his instincts for a striker go, they are absolute trash. He may run in the box but they are more often than not, mindless runs that often put him in difficult or imbalanced position. Mostly they result in him being in space, but outside the line of pass that can easily be picked out by a defender. Hence the reason he's often flaling him arms around like a pork chop because he can't comprehend that the person playing the pass cant just go through legs every time and hope the defender fecks up.

Yeah his hold up play was generally terrible with us. That said for some reason we often resorted to lumping it long to him under Jose, which made no sense as he's rubbish in the air.

I think it is a case of the opposition being weaker here, he seldom ever had that much time and space to take a touch with us. Also Inter seem to be playing more of a counter attacking style in the video, which suits Lukaku, against tight compact defences is where the much derided 'first touch' came to be laughed at. He is a good player, he does have his weaknesses but I think playing him in a front 2 where he can drift wide plays to his strengths, we tried to shoe-horn him into a 3 up front but a Firmino or Benzema he is not.

Question:- Can Lukaku just scoring against Barcelona be classed as his highest profile goal against a club side...or even his highest profile goal ever ????

Don't believe you as according to most people on here he never scores against good teams
His pathetic record was 1 goal in 27 appearances over two years against the top 6 in the PL for Utd. So yes he does score occasionally against decent sides, but it’s a rarity.

I wish him well, but watching him play I am just so relieved that we shipped him out. He's terrible.

Still missed another sitter which actually may end up costing them.

Move on guys, he wasn't good enough for us and wasn't really committed to us either, when push came to shove.

Maybe he will, but I still think his PSG goals were bigger.
In the critical nature of the Man Utd PSG tie then yes correct it was bigger, but as John Barnes most memorable goal was in a meaningless friendly against Brazil I have a feeling Lukaku will have more joy talking about scoring his one (so far ) goal against Barcelona than his two against PSG.

His goals against a full strength PSG games came in a proper game as opposed to this Barcelona B side.

And I wasn't talking about which goal will give him more joy, I'm taking about what is the biggest game he's scored in.

He's pure garbage. Missed some sitters and still don't understand the offside rull. We did well to sell him for as much as we did.

Anyone still moaning about us getting rid of Lukaku needs to watch his performance tonight.

Yes he scored a goal, he'll always get a decent number of goals.

But he missed 3 absolute clear cut chances and his all round game is still fecking awful. Not bringing in a replacement was the real issue, that's the big mistake.

I'm so glad he's not our problem anymore.

He is an alright player, not an excellent player. Europa League suits him just fine.

Hopefully we knock Inter out and he can watch Martial play the role of a modern no. 9.

Rashford has 10 league goals at this stage, 13 goals in total.
Lukaku has 10 league goals for inter, 11 goals in total.

Last season at this stage
Rashford: 3 league goals, 4 goals in total.
Lukaku: 5 league goals.

League goals in total last season:
Rashford: 11
Lukaku: 12

So there's that....

Issues have been injuries to key players at the wrong time.

Inter :lol::lol::lol:

Can't even beat a reserve Barcelona playing for nothing. And I got scrutiny when I said his numbers don't matter in that league, it has been decadent for a minute now.

Well yeah, losing Martial for a few months meant Rashford had to play up front where he struggled. If we had another option Rashford could have stayed on the left and maybe he would have even more goals.

It sounds like a striker is the priority transfer next month so Ole seems to agree we need another option.

Selling Lukaku was absolutely the right decision though.

I look back on Lukaku at United as a strange experience.

Sometimes he was untouchable, other times eye-wateringly bad. I can’t understand why he never seemed committed here but did at Everton. And how a £75m raising to £90m signing can be so meh.

The whole thing was a mismatch

Yeah, he missed 1 or 2 very good situations, but was by far the best Inter player on the pitch.
