Rooney for me. He's the all time top scorer, scored lots of important goals, Solkjaer did so too but was never an integral player in a great team and only scored 20+ goals in a season once. Even Martial and Rashford equaled that this season, heck Greenwood is fairly close to it as well.

Rooney was clearly the better player. Although he didn't win a treble like Ole did.

I think if you judge by quality it got to be Rooney. Sadly he wanted to both leave the club and also played poorly near the end.

Yeah it has to be Rooney, though Ole obviously has the most legendary moment in the history of the Club.

Not sure about this thread. I mean isn't Rooney the clubs record ever goalscorer or something? Might kinda swing it.

Much as I liked Ole the player, the question is absurd. Regarding loyalty, Rooney was wanted by the newly rich rising power in English football, presumably with an invitation to name his own price. Ole was wanted by Hoddle-era Spurs when they used to battle to finish 10th.

Rooney.

kin hell man, Ole was a lovely bloke and a loyal guy, but he was also a sub for almost his entire spell at the club.
This. If Rooney had been at United only a few seasons, this might be a question, but he was a key player for really long; how can Ole ever compare to that?

Before he was manager 80% of the forum didn't remember him too often. Him being a manager increased his legacy

Rooney.

Not sure about the reason for such comparison at the moment though.

What’s the point of this comparison? Are we going to do Berg vs Ferdinand next?

Rooney and it’s not close at all. Rooney is a top 5, at worst.

The transfer request thing is overrated for me.

Rooney is the club's all time goalscorer and won every single trophy that can be won.

What does bigger club legend mean?

Better all round player and more impactful career - Rooney

Remembered more fondly by fans for their career and dedication to the club - Ole

He scored the most important goal in clubs history probably, certainly most memorable and has a 20legend banner at the ground. Course he’s remembered.

I think Rooney Is the bigger legend though, By quite some way

edit: sorry seen you said the forum didn’t remember now, yeah I agree with that

Well thank feck. Honestly expected to see ole come out on top. Easily Rooney for me, as much as I loved ole as a player.

I would also say that Ole did more to put the club on the map globally. The treble was special.

A certain business man travels a lot by road. He owns a car that he uses to transport himself. One day, he bought 5 new tires for his car. Of course, one is a spare for when one of the other four tires had issues.

This spare tire has helped the man a lot. Many times, he would be on a journey and suddenly gets a flat, the spare tire always comes to the rescue and gets the job done effectively.

One day, the businessman bought a new tire to replace one of his tires. Of course a brand new tire can't be left as a spare, so the spare tire was once again sent to the trunk to be used only in times of emergency.

All the tires could get the job done effectively, but one had to always be kept as a spare for times of emergency and thus travelled less miles than the rest.

One day, the cafe people gathered, to discuss which of all this tires was the better servant to this man.

Let the discussion begin.

My initial response was Rooney.

However, when thinking on it a little more, while his on-pitch achievements and abilities are on another level, he did put in that transfer request.

Ole, while being a much lesser talent, did put Utd first in everything while he was at the club. He could have went to Spurs that summer, but didn't because he loved the club.

I don't think I can say the same for Rooney.

In the end, the magnitude of Rooney's achievements would have to put him ahead of Ole, but speaking as a fan, his conduct in 2010 and subsequent outstaying of his welcome in his later career, does put a blot against his name for me. Ole, while being the lesser talent on the pitch, did seem to buy in to Utd as a club and culture much, much more.

Solskjaer won the same things more. Ole has six premier leagues, Rooney has five. Ole won the treble, Rooney didn't.

Yes Rooney is our top scorer but that's pretty much only cos Moyes saddled us with him when he was past it.

Honestly, ever since 2010-11 Rooney hasn't been for me. Putting out statements about ambition before a Champions League game, questioning Sir Alex. Nah, he's not for me.

Will never question Rooney's achievements, and will remember a lot of them fondly. Ole will always mean more to me though.
