The Ince, Bruce, Pally, Robbo, McLair era are not toxic, nor are the VDS, Rio, Vida, Evra, Carrick, Rooney era.

Its very specifically Keane and Class of 92 bar Beckham.

Beckham doesn't have opinions because then he might not get the next sponsorship. The man is a blank slate, he may not criticise the club but he is a non entity. Devoid of all personality. All he cares about is the brand and money. Such a shame.

He probably would if he was on TV every week being paid to give an opinion. As would the rest of them.

Think that’s harsh tbh. Beckhams just not got the personality type nor the expressive means of debate engagement. It’s not him. He’s smart in other ways…
He was very passive and in the background through his time as a player. Every interview he had was the same, even the ones with Victoria, she’d control the discussion and engage in the back and forth. Some people just don’t have that to their personality. An that’s Beckham.

My point was moreso that bland / PR managed or otherwise, he doesnt use his platform to slate or drag down the club at every opportunity

I agree. Beckham was a phenomenal player for us but there’s no doubt he’s very self-conscious of his image. I remember his outrage being leaked to the papers when he wasn’t knighted.

Roll that video on another 2 minutes and it's the Yorke goal. One of my favorites, summed that season up. Brilliant couple of one twos between Keane and Beckham and Beckham with for me his best ever cross and Yorke loved getting on the end of them.

Beckham was unbelievable that season - especially coming back from the World cup scape goating.

It's one of the most annoying myths out there that he was an overrated show pony trading off his name.

I know a guy at work who genuinely believes Anderton was better.
