Another reason this was such a baffling appointment. A manager who doesn't want to adapt stuck with a squad he doesn't like and no money to change it.

Honestly that final made me lose faith in him. He can, and hopefully will, learn from it but that was pathetic. He made no attempt to win us that game against a side that were there for the taking. Spurs didn't even try to win the game but we just dawdled about all game without any changes to incite urgency and put them under serious pressure. That second half should have been wave after wave of attack pummelling them but we were so meek and no changes for 75 minutes with the utter shite we had up top is inexcusable.
I can take a hard fought loss or being outclassed but limp, tame loss like that after our quarter against Lyon...pathetic.

Yep, you're right. Tottenham Hotspur are a team far beyond our capability of putting attacking pressure on my bad.
Tottenham had been battered by pretty much any team in the league by that point, they went on to concede 4 goals in the game immediately after the final. These guys somehow managed to finish below us, it's not particularly difficult to outplay them or apply pressure on their defence.

We were not meek, 16 shots to their 3, with 74% possession, we dominated. Clearly you are biased.
We did though, we dominated them. They scored 20 goals more than us in the league but barely managed a few shots against us.
We had many chances, but we don't have the players to finish.
Amorim some how managed to lose 3 times to that Spurs side despite it being the worst Spurs side in a long time
The current shite state of affairs is redolent of the aroma during Ole's reign. Even then, people were saying we need either 1.) world-class players, or 2.) world-class manager. We had neither. Ole was never going to take that squad to the summit.
Here we are with Amorim. He needed new players in 6* outfield positions plus a keeper. The thinking goes that if he is given this new squad, his system will flourish. Except of course many people pointed out, rightly so, that Amorim was never getting 6 or 7 new players this window. And we have seen he won't change his formation even if the house is on fire. So there is only one way this is ending: in tears. Lots and lots of tears.

Poor defence makes the keeper bad, it works two ways. We need to improve playing out the back.
"It works two ways" makes it seem like it's a 50/50 thing, it's not. Onana is awful and needs replacing, it's really that simple. Defence is nowhere near as bad. Forget about playing out the back, guy repeatedly makes fundamental mistakes.
And yet his stats aren’t worse than average, like Emi Martinez. I’d rather get a midfielder we sorely need.

Cuhna and Mbeumo in attack provide so much power and skill and already proven in the PL
Some rumours of Osimhem again,. if he's added to that attack, we have one of the best in the league and Bruno sat behind them.
Leon coming in looks like an absolute unit and can run all day, him and Dorgu will push each other. Amad and Maza on the other side.
Yoro is looking like a class act, as does Heaven
Kone and Mainoo could prove to be a great midfield pairing in the future, especially if we throw in Baleba (maybe next summer)

I was at every UCL game that year so yes I’m fully aware first hand he was the reason we got knocked out. That’s different, he was directly spilling the ball in the back of the net every game - he hasn’t really been doing that for Amorim.
A new GK is just a temporary plaster. We have arguably one of the worst pivots in the league, if we spend on a GK without improving our midfield we’ll barely improve we’ll continue conceding shots etc.
We finished 15th and have almost the exact same squad in place. Is it that difficult to see why there might be some negativity?
Love the positivity but there's a lot of unknowns in that comment. We still don't have Mbeumo, no concrete talks with a 9, will still have Onana between the sticks etc.... At this moment we've added Cunha to a team that finished 15th.
Plus "prem proven" is far from a sure thing. Of course a PL player is more likely to settle in and succeed but there have been plenty of PL transfer flops. I'm sure Cunha and Mbeumo will be better than what we have but you never know with us, there is still a risk they won't meet expectations. It's hard not to be worried.
I think the main problems will be keeping defenders fit, and our midfield isn't good enough.
And are keepers shit, and we still don't have a good no9. Apart from that though we'll be fine.
The squad obviously needs many new players to be half decent. That has absolutely nothing to do with who is the manager.

Agree, our defense looks bad because or defenders could never feel comfortable enough to push up. Even with EtH we had to play a lower block because our defenders subconsciously couldn't trust Onana. They kept feeling that they had to hang bang just in case. 2 seasons with 2 different coaches and styles just reaffirms that fact, the defense didn't trust Onana so they always hung back which created a huge gap between the back line and the midfield, which made it harder for our midfield to cover for that gap.
Our backline was supposed to be higher which would've mitigated the gap between the the defense and midfield. And we couldn't fill that gap, the back 3 papers that weakness because there's an extra CB filling that midfield hole, so we been better.
The transfer window has gone exactly as expected and this is why I didn’t want to carry on with Amorim. That’s ignoring the appalling form under the manager. Without reinforcements he gets sacked quickly next season because this team isn’t good enough. The next manager doesn’t play his system. We just spent £63m on a bench player as Cunha will never start ahead of Bruno. Similarly we spent £25m on Dorgu in January and won’t have any use for him as a wing back.
I don’t understand what you’re saying about Dorgu. Why do you think he couldn’t play under a different manager?
Because he’s not a full back. Wing back and full back are very different roles. His only other option is playing RW and given how poor he’s been since joining I don’t see him being up to it.

Heaven, Obi, Yoro and Amad are the ones to watch next season.
Because he hasn’t ever played as a full back. When we signed him from Lecce he was playing RW for them. That tells you all you need to know about his strengths. He’s meant to be better going forward. Not that I agree because he can’t cross a ball.
So just to be clear, you’re saying he didn’t play at full back for Lecce?
Pretty sure he played full back at both Lecce and for Denmark.

I think with our 2 new 10s that the 9 problem will be a lot less.
I can't believe people are trying to pre-emptively justifying not signing a striker. It's literally our weakest position.
Amad/Bruno are much better 10s than Hojlund/Zirkzee are 9s. If we were prioritising one of them, striker was the most important.
I'm 100% sure we'll sign a striker though. We're just incredibly slow, as usual, and it will cost us points in the opening few games, as usual.

Even if we switched to a 433 or 4231, we’d just play Cunha off the left and Bruno in the middle. Cunha’s not going to be sitting on the bench when we have so few attacking players of his quality. Dorgu’s played LB and RB before so there wouldn’t be an issue getting him minutes either.

You are impressively clueless. Dorgu played more games for Lecce at LB in a back four than he did any other position.
Exactly, which is why I solely blamed INEOS and Berrada in particular until we only got worse month upon month last season. And at that point why so many were rightly alarmed by Amorim’s complete and utter lack of flexibility. The EL final should’ve been the last straw. Appalling stuff. The City suit has made a royal hash of his one serious job in football so far.

If that’s not a sign of the damage that has savaged the club under the septic Glazers, then seriously some are deluded.The toxic yanks have managed to systematically almost bankrupt one of the most self sustainable clubs in world football , whilst paying nothing, investing nothing, taking dividends and employing hooray Henry’s which seemed impossible. Yet they managed it, apparently able to suck In a successful businessman to buy shares and invest to save the club from itself, and here we are in the same place.
Until they are removed and someone with sufficient capital to re imagine the club financially, nothing will change. Still no joy in opening the mornings news as the club is embedded for financial strength below halfway in the EPL, yes this paints a sad picture, unfortunately it’s the truth and the way out is obstructed by the absent and disinterested American owners, end of.
Couldn’t agree more. At least Inoes are trying and at least the yanks have stopped taking money out now Ineos are involved. The club is wrecked Ineos are trying to save it without the answers and with two hands tied behind their back. If they don’t get it right Amorim is gone.
