The issue is not the formation in of itself. The issue is that it didn’t work and we didn’t have the players for it and he still force fed it to us all season without trying something else.
Once in a while a coach comes along who is a genius, and cooks up a brilliant system. We simply have to give Amorim free reign, a pre-season and the players he wants, and we’ll go on a winning spree.

We aren't going to agree. It is too soon to judge. I think our biggest problem is the squad is shit and while we might have squeaked a handful more points if he'd done something different, we'd still have a shit squad in need of a rebuild. That is the basic problem, we need to build around a clear identity. It's not the formation.

I think both him and the board misjudged the situation and never in a million years thought it would be this bad. They probably thought we'd be around 6th or just below it with current squad and a couple of additions will get us into CL spots.
Probably. How many times did we need something last season and you looked at our bench and despaired. It's the worst collection of players I have seen at this club since I started supporting United under Atkinson and that is not Amorims fault. It is why we have to give him time with some signings before we can judge hiim.

Getting a bit ahead of yourself there I think. Let's actually play a few games before blaming Amorim for the results. I know everyone can't wait to give him a good kicking but you know, let's do it on the basis of what actually happens.
They have to sell before they can buy. This is not news and has been the case since long before the window opened.
Because we did not plan only on the basis of winning the EL final for the squad rebuild. And can, you know, we PLEASE wait until the window is over before saying he hasn't been backed with the players he needs? This is ridiculous.
I think you're putting the cart before the horse. The consensus before Amorim was hired was that the club need to first and foremost decide how they want to play, sign players who fit that "game model", and hire a coach who can get the most out of those players.
Maybe there should be a thread about why the club can't either buy or sell players? Instead of lumping that topic into the Amorin thread.
Yeah it's funny how much the goalposts have shifted here. Everyone was talking about preseason as if it would be a transformative experience necessary to get our new signings acquainted with "the system".

It's like characterizing what Guardiola implemented with the likes of Mahrez and Grealish out wide as simply 343, without additional nuance and qualification. Those teams were playing with more adventurous orientations under Cruyff, Busby and Sebes (31213, 325, 235, 3241, 424, W—M, W—W with technically accomplished wingers or forwards out wide like Stoichkov, instead of wingbacks.)

They haven’t backed the manager at all. They didn’t sack him to save face. Backing him would have been smashing this transfer window and worrying about outgoings/balancing the books later.
You’re missing my point. Last year we were told that Amorims system didn’t work because he needed a pre season with the players to get it to click. Any new players are now likely to miss a huge chunk of pre season and the same excuse will likely be rolled out when we play badly under him.

I'd guess a combination of things. It would have looked pretty bad for them if we were to sack a manager that early considering how they ballsed up the Ten Hag situation. But Amorim himself knew there wasn't going to be a big overhaul this season. He said he will mostly have to work with what we have and a lot of people interpreted that as some kind of a PR stunt to fool other clubs into thinking we are not desperate. As always, the simplest explanation is the most likely one. Mbeumo aside, it appears the only way we sign anyone else is by selling first, which isn't going great so far.
