Ruben Amorim | 2025-26

Totally agree mate, he's being measured and sensible. Some people want him to come out and say sensationalist stuff like "I want more players we aren't very good" it's so unrealistic.

He is clearly not happy with the current squad he just has to say that he is. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.
It just seemed like damage limitation, trying to prevent clubs attempting to get them on the cheap by waiting until the final days of the window.

Good presser, but then he always does good press conferences. I think he said all the right things about the players who might be leaving.

I really do hope we reinforce in at least one more position in either goalkeeper, midfielder or number 9 before the season starts though. Even a half decent reserve keeper to put pressure on Onana would be something.

Doesn't sound promising when it comes to moving on the bomb squad players.

Think we wont see CF or a CM come in.

Going to face same issues we have been seeing last season. No goalscorer upfront in a number 9 and get over ran in midfield.
If the performance of last season continues into this new season, the manager will be fired fairly quickly.
The senior management are expecting massive improvement over last year's disastrous season.
if it looks like he is heading for 9th place or lower, he'll get the chop.
I think they expect 8th place, minimum...which btw is a ridiculously low bar.

Why are we still suffering Ruben? Why?!

I haven't seen the presser, but could this be referring to pre-season? It's generally physically demanding but gives the squad a lot of time together.

Every summer we have the manager saying he's happy with the squad. Every year people freak out. Every year we end up buying a couple more near the deadline.
And quite often we have a very disappointing season. Maybe we need to break that cycle.

The questions in pressers are so poor. Think 3x Cunha was asked why he decided to join United.

I'd have liked questions regarding things that aren't certain, such as the plan for Mount and Zirkzee. Mount especially is probably 5th choice for 2 positions.

Zirkzee seems like he could do well next to Cunha and Mbeumo, but does Amorim see him as the ST or another 10?

Can Mainoo play in the 6? Is Amad a dedicated WB now? Shaw a CB or WB?
I think we can talk about new players until the cows come home but we have wingbacks who are not operating properly. We have dedicated centre-backs who are afraid to pass the ball forward. A GK who instils panic amongst his defence. I could go on.....

I'd be happier for the new season to show that our players are getting the Amorim system inside their heads.

Poor Cunha looked like he was getting sick and tired of the crap questions; that last journalist who asked him why he joined the club, did she not hear him answer it three times before she asked the bloody question.
Imagine going to university to become a journalist and this is the level you’re at

Smart move from Amorim to bring up the World Cup and playing time.
Which players in our squad do you think would've benefited from this brand new information?

I understand wanting to support the manager. But now he's applauded for saying that next year is 2026?

He's an intelligent man for sure, the more I see of him the more I like. I know results were terrible last year but I really hope he can learn from it and grow as a manager, his mentality is that right one for handling a top club. We just need him to improve us on the pitch.

I don't even expect crazy results and flying up the table I want to see the rebuild solidify it's foundations so we can move on in the coming years.

It puts pressure on other clubs and players. Taking a bit of power back. I also dont see what else he could have said in order to ser the tone

I have no problem with him saying it. It's just a fact and nothing more than the usual stuff like "we are utd, we have to give 100% every game", etc. But the poster I was responding to said it's a "smart move", which you seem to agree with. I don't understand what's especially smart here.

This for me too.

Really can't have any more of this, we are going to suffer nonsense. Unless he's talking about the training ground.

Better start getting results now or he'll be staring down the barrel of a sack gun very quickly

Hearing him mention ‘suffering’ still is a big worry. He needs to change the optics and start to talk as if we’re moving in the right direction.

Granted I’ve heard none of the conference or the context!

Looks like we're done with summer signings then... He seems to know it.
Cunha and Mbeumo strengthen our attack for sure, but we're unable to sell anyone...

Think it’s just him having no faith that the board can shift on players.

So we will suffer this season too. Well it can notbe worse.

What sort of message does it send to the squad and transfer targets, when they hear we are going to suffer all the time? It would concern me if I were joining a new team

The club should be telling him to stop saying it. It’s a very negative outlook for the team and gives him and the players ready made excuses.

Time has come to get on with it, improve the team through coaching and start moving us forward. If we are going to keep suffering maybe it’s time he moves on on his own accord of he doesn’t think he can do that. I don’t recall any other manager/team having this kind of talk about their future.

It can’t be any worse than last season surely ? Any worse than last season would be relegation so he’s at a low bar going into the season

The suffering one

I still think there will be enough pressure on people like Garnacho and Antony to move which will allow us some more business

It was overall positive. That was the only part. And I did think "oh no" when he said that. He needs to completely change the energy and not carry last season's energy into the new season. Needs to be more assertive.

Absolutely, I can handle poor performances and losing games (just about) but I do expect the sporting teams I support to be positive !

If there’s no more signings then it was nice knowing him. The midfield isn’t going to magically improve because Cunha and Mbuemo are in attack, nor is Onana. I really can’t see him being here beyond Christmas, like it would need a historic turnaround for him to actually get the confidence of senior management and the fans, especially after the Europa league debacle (losing to Spurs in a final is a sackable offence on its own so he’s lucky he’s still here).

To be fair, why wouldn't he keep trotting out the "we will suffer" line? It's already shown to have worked very effectively last season as a "get out of jail free" card.

Let's see how he goes with a full transfer window behind him and if he is backed sufficiently this window and also with a full preseason with the squad.

Are there doubts about him? yes of course, last season we didn't see any new manager bounce when he arrived, in fact it was the opposite, and the EL final was absolutely disastrous from the selection to the in game management, interesting times ahead.
