Ruben Amorim | 2025-26

Today isn't the day to whine. We comfortably beat Sunderland and the first half was excellent. Kept a clean sheet, Sunderland barely troubled us. Several of our players looked decent and played well.

Also our Old Trafford form is returning so I'm happy about that.
This. Let us be happy today.

Over the last 5 games we're joint 4th alongside Liverpool in form. We do need to start finding better consistency but people have let some results get to their emotions too quickly. It's's always a good bet on united disappointing but we need to wait and see before flipping out.

Grimsby is the game that really poured fuel on the fire. Without that result, the other reactions would have been far less emotional.

I think we can get a draw there. They’ve not impressed at all this season so far. No doubt they will turn it on against us, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

They've lost three in a row and been iffy all season with the late winners. There is no reason we shouldn't be trying to kill a rival who are low on confidence. It's a fantastic opportunity to kick them while they're down, break the two league wins in a row streak and kickstart this season.

He has got us playing okay at Old Trafford, I'll give him that. He needs to start stringing wins together now and stop us from being so rancid away from home.

Being happy with this performance shows how low our standards have sunk. it’s nice we won against sunderland, i say it’s nice because these games are no longer guaranteed 3 points, these times are long gone. But i would not jump on the bandwagon of “we’re back” - yet. We won, but we had lots of issues:

- almost nothing from the left. Dalot over there was very bad.
- very, very, very slow building up an attack. We only seemed to have some urgency when amad had the ball. Otherwise, the ball takes forever to move forward.
- our midfield is still not OK. I was worried Xhaka would boss the midfield like Henderson did last week. Luckily he didn’t. But again, our midfield isn’t able to set the right tempo in the middle of the park.

Ruben needs to figure all of this out before liverpool. Their game against chelsea today is very high tempo. Not sure we can keep up with this.

Lammens seems like a breath of fresh air. Hope he solves one of amorim’s many problems.
Cheer up

1st time we’ve won 3 on the bounce in OT in over 2 years.

This win doesn't change my view of him long term, I still think he needs to be replaced, but it bought him some time. It's up to him now to build on this and get some good results.
Who do you replace him with.
Please you guys should take out time and re-watch our matches then you will understand that this players are not giving their percent yet. They have to do more. If you bring in pep to same team dey will perform same. Leave my manager out of this please

And I'm not criticizing Dalot the left sided WB, I'm criticizing Dalot the overall football player.
But why? Dalot is who he has always been - it’s the manager who keeps selecting him.

You apparently misunderstood my previous post. I'm criticizing Dalot, but not the position where he was played today. He would've been ineffective whether he played on the left or right. Just a bad day at the office.

Yep. You're bang on here. This game will make or break him. They're not very good at the moment either, despite their jammy wins earlier in the season.
Weirdly, I'm more concerned about them now than I would have been had they carried on winning.

There's a (slightly) increased level of expectation going into it now. That never ends well.

Last year, people assumed we'd get thrashed again but we actually put in a good performance and probably should have won.

Reeks of Wirtz winner and Gary Neville annoying us post match to me

We said the same thing prior to City games, and see what happened.

If we got a result with proper performance at Anfield then maybe actually it is a turning point

But an embarrassing loss means Sunderland and Brentford is Amorim's levels

It starting to show that we have made significant upgrade from last season. The obvious ones:

1) Onana/Bayindir to Lemmens - day and night different

2) Hojlund to Sesko - beginning to see the difference and improvement from Sesko

3) Rashford/Garnacho (left 10) to Mount/Cunha - no need to elobrate here

4) Amad to Mbeumo (right10) - Mbeumo make the right 10 his own and allow Amad to play RWB. Both of them work well together.

Next season rebuild we need to:

1) Casemeiro to Anderson/Baleba
2) Bruno to Wharton
3) Dorgu to ???

If Amorim stays I think we make a play on Nuno Mendes, which would instantly solve all things on the left. Amorim gave him his shot at Sporting when he was a youth player, so the relationship already exists.

That will be a major upgrade but it will be difficult to get him from PSG.

Missed the game but looks like Ruben lives to fight another day!

One thing I noticed from the line-ups and subs was that we really missed a trick by not going for a proper central midfielder instead of one of Cunha or Mbeumo. With the low number of games, we could have gotten by the #10 position with a combination of Bruno, Mount, Amad, Mainoo and Cunha/Mbeumo. We really miss a central midfielder to play alongside or instead of Casemiro. Ruben would have had a better chance of survival with a CM instead of another #10.

It was a newly promoted team and we were at home. Beating a newly promoted team and we are one midfielder from competing under Amorim is outrageous. Have the standards actually dropped this low? A win here does not change my opinion on Amorim. He is completely and utterly out of his depth.
Its appalling indeed how low the standards have dropped. "3 points" , "we are 6 points off the top", "we came off a difficult run".

The justification is that Sunderland were apparently an "in form team" when all they did was beat Potter and Ange, who any team can beat. Their fixture list was somewhat kind to have those 2. This is their true level.

3 points does nothing for long term success when we had the same tactical issues. That will soon show up after the break for sure. "Coming off a difficult run" means something if you atleast showed a bit of tactical acumen during that run- but no, we were comprehensively out-played by City and Brentford. Even against Sunderland, the same issues resurfaced in the second half.

Red card to beat Chelsea, barely beat Burnley and just beat a shit relegation candidate at home. Amorim won't survive past November break. But I worry about being saddled with this incompetent board that can't see it. Even Woodward and Murtough were better than Berrada and Wilcox.

Practically everyone is saying this for ages now bruv.

I think the club did try. Though not very successful at it. We bought Casemiro. He was very good but has started to become inconsistent and average too. Same strategy as when we signed Matic. We bought Ugarte. He ticked all the right boxes when we signed him but he has become somewhat average too. But he’s still 24 mind. I believed we tried to get Baleba. Both on somewhat the same strategy.

We need a different/better strategy to get the right CM IMO.

Plenty of managers out there.

The job of any manager is to get the best out of his team, if you judge his tenure objectively you'll notice that we've gotten worse. We can't buy him a new squad, so it's up to him to improve or leave.

For all the criticism of the formation and how Un-United it is - our wingplay throughout the season has been for me the most fun to watch for years.

Amad, Mbuemo, Dorgu bombing up the pitch on breaks feels very United. The execution is one final pass or decision away from being devastatingly.

Ultimately, we just need to start stringing some wins together anyhow - because I think what the current team lacks more than anything is just self belief, and a habit of winning somehow/anyhow. That know-how of how to see out games has been missing for 3 seasons now.

Not a fan of that tracksuit he had on yesterday. The 343 worked yesterday, the tracksuit not so much.

"Some results"

He's lost half the league games he's managed in the PL, 17 out of 34.

Yesterday was alright, but the next 6 games to the end of Nov will make or break him:

Liverpool A
Brighton H
Forest A
Spurs A
Everton H
Palace A

That is a tough run of fixtures, but it will give a clearer picture of where the team is rather than home wins against newly promoted sides.

Happy with Amads, Lammens and Yoros performances, key is taking the intensity shown in the first 45 minutes particularly how quick we played the ball forwards, into the next game.

No good reverting back to ten touchs and a safe sideways or backwards pass.

He has assembled a very strong squad together.

His purchases have so far proven to be worthy with Mbuemo, Sesko, Cunha, Lemmans doing very well. The precious batch of players like Yoro, De Ligt, Heaven and Dorgu also did very well. A new era is coming.

What's the point in picking the worst periods of other teams and implying that that's some kind of evidence that we're not that bad? We were also joint/ahead of City before playing them.

Agreed.

We don't do that anymore.

Hopefully he'll find some guts to sideline Dalot for a longer period od time. Also, have a bad feeling he'll play Altay against Liverpool.

FIFY

Our home form and performances have been good. In all 4 matches, including the defeat to Arsenal, we looked threatening and had genuine periods of dominance.

Away performances have been trash and we have not looked convincing at all. He needs to come up with something really special to get something out of Anfield. He needs to find a way to congest the midfield somehow with his 3 at the back formation. I reckon he will play Maz as the right wingback and ask him to cover the midfield spaces when Bruno joins the attack. If Maz is not ready, then Dalot will need to do the job, though I hope that’s not the case.
