Ruben Amorim | 2025-26

Amorim mentioning about the middle of the park and having pace centrally speaks for itself. Yet we haven’t been linked with any Cm

His system is so bad and makes our already average squad look worse than the sum of their parts. I'll be stunned if he's still here by Christmas.

I was blown away by his charisma in first few months, but the more time goes by I tend to belive what you said. I am not sure if his system with current players will ever work in premiere league, more over it is making them look worse.

Hope he gets a striker and a CM to put his ideas forward.

Looks like he’s just publicly begged for an athletic midfielder with some pace. At least we know he can see what we see.
That means are we submitting our midfield signing mistakes in last few years(Case,Mason) and finally Ugarte by INEOS last year?

So now we need to ship out Ugarte too ?

Begs Bruno to stay, buys two 10’s so he can move Bruno deeper, pairs him with a 33 year old Casemiro…proceeds to then complain we don’t have pace in the middle of the pitch.

The man is an absolute moron.

But it's literally nothing to do with pace in the middle of the park. It's the fact everything seems forced down the wings in this system and we have absolutely nobody who can control a game, keep possession and dictate play in the midfield. I really question what the managers actually thinking when he's talking about lacking "pace" in the midfield. That's not whats needed in that position. I start to get really concerned when a manager is obsessed with pace and power and players running around like headless chickens instead of technical players who are good on the ball.

The fear is Bruno being unable to play in a 2 man midfield the balance is completely off and we’ve essentially signed 2 players that play in Amad and Bruno’s best position

It’s exciting signing Cunha and Mbuemo…..not sure we can have those 2 and Bruno at CM though and the same issue with Mainoo we have one of the best young midfielders and can’t get him in the side it could be a major issue this

This couldn't have said any better myself .

We should have just waited for Enrique to finish with Spain and then do everything possible to tempt it. He’s probably one of the only managers that would succeed here
I'm not sure we could afford the type of players he'd need us to buy

I think he was referring to the ancient Casemiro. He needs to be replaced. Bruno may not be a proper CM but he is still way faster than Casemiro.

No no, you just don't understand his system

You had a bang to the head or something?

What do you mean? Amorim’s tactics can be quite “hoofball”. It’s usually a lot of passing across the back five where the full backs are pinned so they're forced to to hit it long playing it into the channels for the striker to run onto.

I think Ekitike could fit that style quite well. He’s good at holding the ball up, bringing it down under pressure, and carrying it forward. He’s also stronger than people think, he's physically tougher than Gyökeres, (it worked for him in the Portuguese league)
From another thread but wanted to move it to this topic

That passage is pretty much exactly as I said, Amorim plays hoofball football but for some reason he doesn’t have that reputation. Maybe if he was English and wore a tracksuit like Tony Pulis. It’s nos sustainable and the limit is capped.

Exactly this. When will this club learn that we need a proper DoF. Both ETH and Amorim did well in their previous clubs as they had DoFs calling the shots with regards to team building.

You believe Fernandes is good enough there he is also big part of the problem , we had a great opportunity to reset everything with that Saudi bid for Fernandes but unfortunately making obvious decisions isn't something people at United excel at .

Good point. Although id actually like to see a manager that can work miracles on the training pitch and make them play as a unit in a match. I get we need specific players for certain styles but a managers job is to train and coach players to be better rather than just spending a shed loads all the time.

Some argue this is the job of the head coach

We are one game into pre-season and still have weeks to go in the transfer window. Would it really be so much to fecking ask of this place to screw its head on every once in a while and not completely freak out over literally everything...

I mean it's been shit since he started, continues to be shit right now - what sign or indication do you see things will indeed not be shit once it matters again?

Yep, it's a major issues indeed and the only way to solve it partially would be to move to a 4-3-3. Which the managers never going to do. I'm lost on a lot of the managers logic at this point.

I love Bruno, but the time to sell him was this summer.

The fee would have gone a long way to helping us rebuild the team.

Now even moreso because he is being shunted deeper into midfield, where he isn't as effective.

That makes sense in relation to the overall performance, but Fernandes and Casemiro aren't going to become pacy in three weeks of pre-season.

We accepted the bid, fernandes turned them down.

"Calm down it's only pre season" quickly turns into "calm down the season has just started" and so on.

This was my take on his comments also

I don't see any sign or indication of anything right now because it's the first fecking game of pre-season, unless you also think Newcastle fans should start bricking it at the prospect of relegation.

The squad last season was an absolute dumpster fire because Murtough, Arnold, and Ten Hag spent over 400 million between 2022 and 2023 on players who are contributing basically nothing to the side not two years later.

There's still ages to go in this transfer window and thus far, I already see that the club has identified a major issue last season (the fact that our forwards were completely useless) and taken pretty significant steps to fix those. There's still a hell of a way to go but then I am very confident in saying that Ten Hag is to blame for that and not Amorim.

Shut the feck up with your adherence to what actually happened, we only accept hysteria here!

In all seriousness though, excellent point. It was very widely reported that the club's position was "If Bruno wants to leave, we won't stop him" and yet people are now acting like Amorim was the only thing preventing the move.

Bruno asked to remain at Old Trafford and, while I can well accept that there would have been benefits to letting him go and using the money we got to improve the midfield, forcing your captain and probably the most well-respected member of the squad out the door could sure as Hell create its own problems.

Shut the feck up with your adherence to what actually happened, we only accept hysteria here!
It's not true though. We didn't accept any bid and Bruno himself said he'd leave if the club and manager wanted him to.

Your reaction isn't uncommon, but when the season starts, it almost always turns out that the previous season moaners are right - it's a prelude of things to come
Not sure what you are expecting from the same players that we know aren't good enough. Nothing to do with being 'right'.

At some point This clueless Rookie we have as a coach will realise his reputation will be in tatters unless he switches to a 433 system. You can’t play a 2 man midfield in the EPL you can play a 4 man midfield box but only if your 6 and 8 are fast mobile athletic players!?

The Quicker Amorim goes and an elite 433 coach like Xavi comes in, the quicker the club will heal, this guy is a complete novice in the EPL or any elite league like la liga, he’s not good enough and if as I expect, he’s got 4 PL points from the first 5 EPL matches he’s gone and will go down as the worst managerial appointment this century!
