Ruben Amorim | 2025-26

It’s becoming one because it’s gone on for a few years and has driven good posters away. Would I rather have good posters giving constructive criticism when warranted or have 5-6 absolute negative people ranting in every thread? Not a hard choice

The worst one holds some sort of 'scout' position on here, whatever that is. Please can you explain that? If he's a scout, I'm worried. Does this mean he's promoting any idiot that has a moan about the club?

If scouts were absolute idiots, then yes. Otherwise no

I think you can mark that down as bad result, good performance.
In isolation, it is fine and likely we were good for a point, but let's hope we see a lot more clinical finishing in the two games coming up against weaker teams.

If I’m reviewing I won’t hold back if they’re a scout if that’s what you’re getting at

If policing opinions involves trying to stop assorted bell ends from reminding us for the thousandth time this summer exactly how many games we’ve lost under Amorim then I’m all for it. We all watch the same matches FFS. We watched every single defeat. It’s a new season, a fresh start, so boring as feck to have to listen to people still crying about last season’s results.

They won't even listen to any argument regarding context. Listen to the likes of Rio and Howson etc who are saying that Amorim explained to them that he effectively had to play with the brakes on last season to try to navigate the season. And we're one game in, which we dominated against top opposition (have our fans not been asking for this for years?) and played aggressive football. It's only one game but already there is a sign there that what he is saying is the truth, and this season we'll be different.

And other than that, we played with no CF and two 10s who were making their debut. And yet they still want to peddle this 'nothing has changed' bollocks whilst even opposition fans are talking about the difference in our play. Are they just oblivious, unable to recognise what is happening before them, or do they just live to feed on negativity? Like I've been saying for ages, some of our own fans are actually the worst thing about us these days.

Don't really see the line of thought where this season is a fresh start. It doesn't happen in isolation or in a vacuum, of course last season will affect how people judge our games, including a strong but fruitless display like yesterday. Especially when one of our most meaningful defeats happened in a somewhat similar manner.

So are you saying you didnt see a difference between the Europa league final performance to the one yesterday?

So you don't see a post criticising us for yesterday and think 'I'll have a bit of that, welcome to the mains'?

I hope you understand how the negativity on here is genuinely ruining the forum.
Just the other day I liked an overwhelmingly positive post I pretty much disagreed on in every point. But it was a well made post and well argued, that's all I look after

If a scout gives out likes for stupid rants you can be sure he won't be a scout for long on here.

And if someone posts well made criticism without being toxic than it's absolutely fine to say "yes, more of that please". It's not about the points made, it's much more about the tone used to do it.

That's reassuring to know.

We were better yesterday, but many of the same issues were present as well

Like Amorim said himself, these problems aren't fully solved in 4 weeks and with two new attackers on the pitch. At least they made a clear difference to our play. What issues are you referring to specifically though?

Well I think the lines may be blurry there after seeing some of the comments after yesterday.

Cannot really be done without policing opinions. If we weren't in such bad state results wise then the tone of the thread would be mostly positive. I think it's natural and if people want an echo chamber of positivity there is always the ignore function. The thread is already much more positive even after a loss at home. When/if results come it will be a non issue.
Well said.

It’s unreasonable to expect everyone to be on the positive only train when we just experienced the new low of PL era last season.

Exactly. A handful of serial posters are ruining the experience for others so we need to try and do something. Last season we was bad, but this is a new season
The ignore button is there for a reason. Unless the mods and admins want to turn this into RAWK, there is no reason to tamper with natural flow of opinions. The going of last season naturally deserves the overflowing negativity.

I don’t see the overflowing call to sack Amorim after this result, which would have been unreasonable and deserve “punishment”.

Being skeptical about the positive in new season under a manager whom is stuck with his way of playing is natural. Some issue still remains. As some other posters already said: the result is the best response to the skepticism. Until the desirable result comes, it’s within reason for this skepticism to continue.

We create very little outside of individual moments. We had those moments yesterday, and that's already an improvement, but the famous patterns of play don't really get us far at the moment.

We also lack a kitchen sink approach when necessary. That was painfully obvious against Spurs and also a bit in the last 15 minutes yesterday. Our kitchen sink is mostly Maguire

This discussion about 'negativity' is certainly far more fun the negativity.

Swear to god, there more discussion about other posters/state of the forum than the club or the football on here. The self-righteousness is nauseating.

So are you saying you didnt see a difference between the Europa league final performance to the one yesterday?
I think the main difference was having better players in attack yesterday. The way the game fizzled out in the last 15 minutes was similar. The 'negative' poster complaining about hoofing the ball to Maguire as a plan B has a point. It was a terrible idea in the EL final, and the same mistake occurred again yesterday against Arsenal's dominant defenders. Keep working out the ball on the ground trying to break down the defence, we had the players for it. Why take them out of the game for the sake of Maguire?

Over the past few years, we have got steadily worse and so it’s hardly surprising that the general mood of the forum has been negative. We are currently on a run of 10 league results which reads L-W-L-L-L-D-L-L-D-L. That’s 5 points out of 30 and is the worst run of results probably in most of our life-times. Whilst yesterday’s performance was encouraging, this doesn’t feel the time to be picking on posters for still remaining negative about our prospects. If we win our next few games, and posters are still complaining about a 30% win record, perhaps that would be a more appropriate time to start wielding the mod hammer?

Wow, reading a lot of comments post game on this thread, makes one wonder that a lot of these posters want us to lose & enjoy it just to be proven right. I do not have any great love for Amorim & not a fan of 3 CB formation, but I can't find any fault or criticize him for the way we played Arsenal. It was a way better performance than any from last season. We deserved to win that game. Let's see how we take it forward from here, because that was a problem last season.

Something I’m trialling. They are zero points.
But it gives me a way to track who is the serial moaners who make it so toxic here that many posters don’t post here anymore.
So if a visible “negative” sign makes those people think a little before they post great.
Otherwise, those who are consistently showing up will find themselves not being able to just get away with it.
Thanks for doing this. So sick of the negative posts

It wasn't hoof ball into Maguire all the time, it was because Arsenal were making fouls, so on the set plays we went direct. We created chances from good play even in the last 15 minutes, we had Arsenal penned back, Amad was dribbling through them.

Ignore them? Give them a tagline? As long as they are not deliberately wumming or breaking the rules I don't see why anything needs to be done about negative opinions.

If a number of posters are complaining about this thread/forum being too negative then it's clearly action needs to be taken against the few that spam their complaints. If all posters do is be negative and kill the vibe of the forum then they deserve a warning.

They're lucky it was only infractions.

This is good idea, considering posters could not see a difference in our play from last season. We are not going to improve in 1 game.. the signs were there though.

We did not play a lock block and we built up well.

Now when our players do well, its not coaching its individual brilliance... Not seen this been said when City, Arsenal, Liverpool players do this.

Last season has no bearing on the performance of the next game. I can understand apprehension based on previous results but being critical of a performance based on last season is just petty.

There's a weird 'i can't forgive them' vibe from some of you lot. It's fecking football it's supposed to be fun, it's the theatre of dreams not the theatre of sulks. Have a bit of fecking hope and take the positives when you can.

This is the biggest issue i have with him, he's way too dogmatic, whether it's formation, strategies, starting players, subs he never seems to make an bold changes despite the current way of doing things are clearly not working. He's had his summer of signings, so there are no excuses now, the results have to come. I disagree that you just disregard everything that happened last season, whether he corrects the mistakes of last season will decide his fate.

Its very disingenuous to combine last few games from previous season to this new one. This season starts from scratch. We have new personals in attack now. End of last season was Europa or nothing, so results of those last few league games did not matter. If you want to keep track how many points we get from 30, do it for the games played this season & see where we are. Any criticism or praise would be well warranted in that case.

Thank you! Well overdue and I’m glad it’s ruffled a few feathers.

Issues like?
To be fair I don't recall too many chances being created where you could say we had a strong chance of scoring. Can only really think of the Mbuemo header which Raya parried away as a clear chance. The Cunha one from the tight angle was a half chance in reality as was the one he created himself running from deep.

I think the structure is there now to create chances. We have practically 6 attackers at times with the WBs advanced. You can't just plug & play a completely new attack - this will take at least a few games to gel. I actually hope they can produce some individual moments to win us games whilst we are working on the chemistry on the pitch. I fully believe that we will be a dangerous team when they finally click and Sesko has a few games under his belt. It's simply too early to say that we've not solved these issues.

What sort of kitchen sink approach would you like to see? Liverpool and City generally continue playing their game and try to keep teams penned back until they crack, which I think we saw signs of yesterday and at times last season. But did you not notice how Luke Shaw was pushed into LWB with Dorgu to create an additional overload? Or how our CBs were making support runs into the box? Maguire did come up with the goods last season so I don't mind that for now, but when we have two fit CFs I expect we'll see them both on the pitch in these situations too. Like I said though, this is still a work in progress and we have only just added the firepower we need - let's give it time and see how it looks.

I question this vibe of the forum concept. Isn’t this forum stand out even for opposition team posters to come here because it allows free thought as long as it is in good faith? So the low time like last season would naturally bring negative opinions and somebody need to take a break from the forum. Why would the admins and mods want to dictate the vibe, instead of letting the nature of opinion flow.

This forum should not be RAWK like, where we have a set of vibe to follow. It’s more questionable if people start writing poems and resort to alternative table to keep the vibe.

Good point. These same people were asking us to make EL our priority, which we did for the most part, and then want to talk about results in the league after the fact.

  • Dorgu striking the ball from 20~ yards, beating Raya and hitting the post?
  • Cunha running through the entire Arsenal side before letting off a timid shot into Raya's hands?
  • Mbeumo receiving the ball countless times on the wing, running to the edge of the box and getting shots off? That happened 2-3 times
  • Dalot and Mbeumo linking up, Dalot fizzing the ball across the box but because of the lack of no natural no.9, no one was on the end of it
  • Second half, Amad running into the box, touching it to Mbeumo and getting a last minute shot off, which was saved
  • Cross into the box in which Mbeumo attempted an overhead kick, just went wide
  • Mount having a chance of his own, receiving the ball with his back to goal and getting a shot off
  • Cunha getting to the by-line and forcing an incredible reaction save from Raya
There were countless amount of chances. Unsure if you were watching the same game as me? We registered 22 shots yesterday. The most shots registered at OT since 2011.

True, not many chances... Mbuemo went through almost 1v1 early on, Cunha had a couple chances, not just the one from a tight angle, the one where the ball was played to his feet and saliba challenged... a chance where Mbuemo and Amad got in each others way.
We got into their box via Amad behind their defence but couldn't find the final ball.

When people start to pile on posts because they are "too positive" it stops being a flow and turns into a flood of toxicity.

It still is a fact that the end of last season was a disaster. Just like the game yesterday gives hope for improvement. Mentioning that isn't disingenious. In a way it shows how little progress is actually needed to improve results compared to last season.

The new attack needs to start making a difference very soon or the negativity will raise to a level that endangers Amorim's job. But at least they are there, so we can have hope.

You’re mistaken, posters aren’t getting punished, there are no infraction points. It’s merely tracking who are the most negative. So if someone has 40 more posts than everyone else then we need to have a word with that poster. I suspect those posters know who they are

In good faith is the key point. There are posters who argue in bad faith, who can’t wait for us to have a bad result.

It’s a good thing to track some of these posters and hopefully ban them.

Newbies should be scrutinized more; I notice a lot of Newbie agenda posters. They are not looking to
get promoted, so
ban away mods.

There is no way you can frame yesterday’s game as a poor one: we were outplaying Arsenal in every metric (except gk).

It got really bad during Ten Hag era to the point the thread was closed several times.

Back to the game: we improved in playing out the back, the runs from Cunha and Mbeumo were great, Mount put in a massive performance, Casemiro was great, the players look fitter. Matthijs was a gladiator, Shaw looked great, Dorgu awesome.

Negatives: still haven’t solved our set piece vulnerability, Ugarte was poor (in hindsight Mainoo should have been brought on). I don’t think we should write off Ugarte, just don’t bring him on when we are chasing a game.

Basically I’m happy even though we lost, up to a point. After last season, we want to see the team putting it together, and it is happening.

We are a midfielder and gk away from having a great squad.

Arsenal aren’t going to win anything.
