Ruben Amorim - AC Milan head coach (not manager, or perhaps manager) | living rent free in your heads

For me it's the inflexibility. Sticking to something that doesn't work without trying anything else. Three at the back is just more rare than four, so there's at least a chance it's part of the problem when results are consistently shit with a team that basically never played it. Can't hurt to tinker when things aren't working out, right?
I wasted far too much time explaining this to posters who would defend Amorim. It's not necessarily the back 5 that's the problem. It's the fact that he refuses to deviate from his very specific formation regardless of the circumstances. Even when we're 0-1 down to 10 man Everton.

Yeah makes sense. In general I was done with the inflexibility and stubbornness to change anything. Oh and his sidelining of Mainoo for no apparent reason. The formation didn't factor into my aversion, but I get what you mean.

It's kind of crazy to me that a club like Milan would take a punt on him after what happened at United. So many decisions at massive clubs still seem to be made in a very old fashioned non serious way. Of course he could be incredible for them and prove everyone wrong but surely someone at Milan must have gone through his United tenure & looked at the problems plus underlying numbers so to give him the job is just bonkers.

Would love to hammer this prick. The disrespect he showed during his time was brutal.

Makes it so unbelievably easy for opposition manager to play against.

No surprises and entirely predictable An absolute dream for every other manager in the league.

At least four players either out of position or roles they are not comfortable in. Chukwueze at WB

So he hasn't actually learned anything from his time with us has he? Still trying to force square pegs in rounds holes.

This match will be his "I told you so" cup final.
So 1- 0 to United.

48 year old Luka Modric in a two man midfield has to be abuse though. Even for Serie A standards
Knowing what we know of Amorim, it's a mystery why Milan even hired him.

The system he absolutely refuses to deviate from needs 2 energetic midfielders who can get about the pitch. Did nobody think about how that would mesh with their new star man being a hundred years old?

Oh I hope we play 4-2-3-1, Mainoo stars, and we absolutely hammer them.

Fantasy version - Rashford starts and scores a hat trick which acts as the catalyst to his resurrection as a Utd player.

I’ll never forget that he played Casemiro and Eriksen in a 2 against Bruno G, Tonali and Joelinton.

Ruben Amorim spoke to Sky Sport 24 at the end of today's friendly against Chelsea, lost with a disappointing 3-0 in favor of the British. These are the statements of the Milan coach**.**

It wasn't a very positive evening...

We knew we would suffer a little, but we want to propose this kind of challenge to our players.

All the opposition has to do in Amorim's stupid formation is pass straight through the center and everything just opens up like hot knife through butter.

Clearly despises all-time legend, elder statesmen, midfielders.

Somehow, somewhere, there’ll be a cohort of Milan fans blaming Modric and not Amorim’s insanity for Modric’s inability to become omniscient and omnipresent.

All the formation talk is a red herring, any half decent coach can set up a team with whatever players he has in multiple shapes and get them functioning to a minimum standard

He can't however because he is quite simply a terrible coach

I absolutely hated his tenure and even more so for how much he was defended by so many United fans. A cult following started and even the Mods on here wouldn’t allow justified criticism. It was a very strange period.

The way he watches the game pisses me off. Like a pushy parent eager that their kid says the lines exactly as Mummy rehearsed

Does he know Modric is now 40 years old?? He tried it with a 33 years old Casemiro and it didnt work in whatever his system is.

Turn that 3-4-2-1 to a 4-3-3 with Loftus-Cheek in midfield, Chukwueze as RW, Leao as LW, Estupinan as LB, and bring in a right back for Terracciano, then everyone is in a more comfortable position. 11 out of 11 players in positions they are comfortable with only one player change, and I reckon Terracciano could easily do a job at RB too.

AC Milan appointing him reinforces my belief that I'd do a much better job than a lot of the people top professional clubs have making football decisions for them.

I watched the extended highlights, maybe it's confirmation bias ,the weaknesses of his system at United werecstill there :the gaping spaces between the CBs and the WBs,the 3 CBs not knowing who to mark or where to position, the midfield.

This! Absolute shite coach. I still to this day cannot believe we didn't sack a coach that led Manchester United to a 15th place finish.

Also no solution to how to progress the ball forward from the back if the wingbacks can't do it leading to extra pressure on the central midfielders that get pressed. Everyone is just isolated...

Chukweze, estupinian and loftus-cheek aren't gonna play at all

Leao, we'll see if he stays

I genuinely think that’s a fair comment.

Looking at comments there could be a bit of meltdown if we lose to Milan on Saturday even if it's only a friendly

Preseason games don't have to mean anything but certainly it's not a promising start for him.

Where does this general aversion with 3 at the back come from? To me, it doesn't really matter, plenty of shit managers have deployed 4-4-2 and it doesn't get the flack 3 at the back gets. I'm sure I'm lacking some context
Because it involves putting players into positions that they are not comfortable with. Amorims system in general is so rigid and needs specialists yet it will cost a lot of money to fit out the whole squad with players just for this system. For what? It’s proven to fail more times than it works in PL football.

Did a historically bad job at United and is very lucky to be given this chance. I don't think he'll make it past September though, Milan will be more sensible than us.

Compare his tenure with the treatment Graham Potter got from Chelsea & West Ham fans, after making their teams significantly worse, and you'll realise that it was genuinely nothing more than pretty privilege. If Amorim looked and sounded like Potter then he wouldn't have amassed the same cult following, nor would the mods be dishing out infractions for valid criticisms of the manager after we lost to Arsenal.
