Ruben Amorim - AC Milan head coach (not manager, or perhaps manager) | living rent free in your heads

Will be interesting to see if he adopts crazy ideas into his philosophy like, alternating formations, making tactical tweaks and adjustments mid-game and perhaps even an attacking sub every now and then when his team are losing as opposed to a CB for CB change. Or will it be more of the same as during his United tenure.

Going off their last match last season they had a 532 formation, so already set up for his 5 at the back.
That's a good line up.

Wish him well. Not seething with self-righteous revenge rage with Amorim.

Other things maybe but life's too short

Of course it is. It is much closer to each other than Premier League, in any case.
Just stating something doesn’t make it so. If you ranked the teams in all three leagues, where would the non Big 3 Portuguese teams place? Answer honestly.

I would not say it is. The pressure at United is first and foremost a completely different level to AC Milan (even if they're also a giant club with great history), and the chaotic state of the club at the time of his arrival is not something to scoff at.
The pressure of managing United used to be on a completely different level. Now it demonstrably isn’t. You’re living proof that you can do an awful job and still have fans defending your record. If the pressure at United is so high, how did Amorim keep his job so long? He would have been sacked at Milan long before he took them to the edge of the relegation zone.

I can see why fans are opposed to it, of course, but take a look at these managers for AC Milan in the last 12 years; Tassotti, Seedorf, Mihajlovic, Brocchi, Montella, Gattuso, Giampaolo, Fonseca, Conceicao, what did they do prior to joining? Nothing (bar Fonseca, but it was with Porto). Yet, somehow, Amorim, who has actually won something and built something before is being made out to be some sort of meme because of how he did with us. It does not mean he will do similar for Milan.
I don’t view him as a meme. I view him as a sadly inflexible and somewhat insecure man. Stubbornly sticking to his system seemed more important to him than getting the best out of his players. We often say that ‘no one is bigger than the club’ in reference to players, but it’s equally true of Managers.

Someone with his vindictive, loser, childish, throwing toys out of his pram mindset will never succeed as a manager. Sacked in 6 months.

When I'm talking about pressure, I'm talking globally, social media, newspapers, fans etc, not pressure from the board.

AC Milan have had a bunch of terrible managers that did nothing prior to joining them, and now they get someone who failed in Premier League but previously built a team and won the league with that team in a league that is normally a two-horse race for 20 years straight with the 2nd most goals scored in the league's history? I mean, realistically, who else were AC Milan going to get that has done what Amorim have done before? They're acting like they're getting relegated based on his time for us, which is just pathetic. PL is a much more difficult league, with much more quality and better managers. We can return to this mid season when we see how he's fared, I would not be surprised if he does well with that team in a significantly weaker league.

His vision of football might work in Italy. Milan will be open to his ideas. Internazionale more so, but he went to the other one.

Every time they give up a goal, he subs on another offensive player for a defensive player.

Has the suffering started yet for Milan?
It's been going for 3 years. They spent the last month essentially without directors. It was only the owner in America and Ibra also in America and then the janitor

Hilarious how AC Milan fans are acting like they're some top team these days who'll have all the best managers waiting in line to join them. You've spent more time outside top 4 in fecking Serie A than inside for the last 12 years. Amorim is the best you can hope for.

Completely ignoring what he did before he joined us in a league much more comparable to Serie A than Premier League. No surprise if he does well for them.
I think he's a bit of a coup for them. If they got him in June 2024 instead of June 2026 they'd be over the moon.

I mean that's just not true.

He succeeded (massively) as manager of Sporting.

There are also many examples of top managers who are vindictive, childish and prone to throwing toys out of the pram that are successful. Mourinho seems an obvious example.

Would be brilliant if he can be the guy to bring Milan back to the top of serieA and hopefully regulars in the CL.

They'd have been better off promoting the janitor.

I'm very worried about this appointment
We have big ambition but no money, the pressure is huge given we are AC Milan but our squad is mediocre even by Serie A standard.

In Liga portuguesa there are pretty much just three teams (Porto, Benfica, Sporting) that monopolize the league so it's not that hard to win games and obtain results there, not that hard to build confidence and create a team that believe in your ideas given 90% of the opponents are far inferior.

For how Serie A it's structured, it's much more similar to Premier League with many teams close in quality. I'd say there are 6-7 teams very even (Milan, Juve, Roma, Napoli, Como Atalanta + maybe Lazio) behind Inter and I fear that he might crumble under the pressure as happened at M.United if he fails to win three games in a row

Hope they come back to their back best (just not with him) In fact it would be great to have strong Italian teams back in Champions League. It would make a great viewing.

I'm more interested in how much United will save in compo seeing as he's now took another managerial post .

At least you will send him packing unlike us, we have some weird fascination of giving managers time despite them being completely clueless. You can use his song though, it was quite catchy. I am still shocked that this arrogant Buffoon did not have the basic courtesy and civic sense to acknowledge our fans who sang for him over players and supported him despite him being by far the worst manager we had recently.

I get people don't like him and why but I still think he is a good manager and will do well there and in his career overall

I just think this job came too early in his career. He never had actual adversity in management and had to deal with politics the same way at a big club. Milan will benefit from his experience here as he knows he can't be this hot headed there

Having said that, I am still very annoyed he never did a thank you to the fans. His assistants did at least but pathetic from him

He was incredibly damaging to us - his tactics in the EL Final alone cost us £100m. However, I’ve calmed down a little since his departure and TBH I hope he succeeds at Milan. I think he’s a decent bloke who couldn’t acknowledge that he was vastly out of his depth at United, plus his coaching staff were totally incompetent.

If he implements a system at Milan that works then good luck to him. But if it doesn’t, and he continues showing his stubborn side, then it’ll prove he hasn’t learned and deserves any shit that comes his way.

Where does the team lack the most with regards to his philosophy in your view?

We’re both talking about the same thing.
  • His name was still being sung in the stadium, despite guiding the club to their worst ever PL era finish by miles
  • A former United captain kept insisting that ‘he needs to be given time’
  • The mods on this forum refused multiple requests for a poll on his thread
  • The mods then shut his thread down due to criticism of him after he had been sacked
  • Now you yourself are defending his record and claiming that Milan are lucky to have him
That isn’t even a criticism of yourself, match-going fans or the mods (honest). You’re all obviously free to support your club and it’s Manager however you see fit. But you can’t have it both ways. You can’t make all the excuses in the world for Amorim and simultaneously claim that he’s in one of the most pressurised environments in world football.

Let’s face it, a Manager with Amorim’s record would have been under greater pressure at Brighton. That’s not an exaggeration. If Fabian Hurzeler had just finished 15th as Amorim did a year ago, he would be sacked.

Is he a big part in the “All or Nothing “ show?
