Feel bad for them but it’s their own fault, how anyone could watch him at United and think he was a good coach I’ll never know.
Watch the highlights of their game against Chelsea. I don't know if it's just due to rotations or lack of match fitness, but they could have conceded 3 or 4 more goals in that game. Chelsea were carving them up for fun.
His stubborn formation and tactics still not working out, Millan are welcome to him.
How can a coach be so married to a formation? It doesn’t make sense.
It's going to be fun following him at another club. I'm hoping for a lot of bad results, weird sideline antics and passive aggressive statements. I truly hope he has brought his little sideline tactics boards with him.

It should have been a gigantic red flag for any club looking to hire him after the job he did here. His insistence on that system here, with the players he had available and the results he was getting showed a stubbornness and tactical rigidity that are huge indictments on the quality of a manager.
I'm honestly kind of baffled a big club like AC Milan went with him. I was expecting Portugal, Ligue 1 or something like that.
I once read an article about Ruben that mentioned that he sort of stumbled upon the 3-4-2-1 in his first or second managerial job after a poor start with a different formation and then sort of stuck to it, almost like a superstition.
It would explain it, but you would think a superstition stops being positive once you lose every other game as Manchester United coach and finish the season at 13(!).
Pretty odd all in all, maybe it was something he ate that made him that way, I don’t.

I know it's "only" the Serie A, but 40 year old Modric as one of the DMs in this car crash of a system could get rough.

All the more reason to give them the best opportunity to succeed, rather than pushing a load of them into positions they aren't comfortable with.

The most specialist formation… ever. Fullbacks who can play as 1v1 wingers whilst also having to defend their back post and opposing attackers; “inside no.10”s who need to have the mobility to play wide-ish but also have the ability to play inside the lines; central midfielders with the three lungs and can still play progressive passes; CCBs expected to be the main player in the middle third etc.
I think they learned that in Istanbul, the ultimate suffering.
48 year old Luka Modric in a two man midfield has to be abuse though. Even for Serie A standards
Will be very interesting to see how the players react to him next weekend, usually it’s all smiles and handshakes seeing old faces during friendlies, or it’ll just be a polite nod or ignore him

It reminds me of Chelsea loaning Falcao the season after we had him, they think they can do better and we were the problem and not the player/coach.
AC Milan play that system so it wasn’t too much of a change for them, if it goes well then it’s great, if it’s not working out Amorim won’t shift his plan and will just bury his head in the sand and blindly believe it will come good. I agree that I’m shocked AC Milan took the chance on him, especially with the World Cup ending and a lot of managers moving about they would have had options open to them.
Just hope we beat them when we play them or it will be embarrassing, I’m expecting both managers to play full strength teams for the majority of the game.
It's beyond stupidity. Modric will only work in a 3 man midfield where he has two runners around him doing all the leg work. You allow him to have the ball and dictate play.
How on earth he will cope in a two man midfield is beyond me. Ok shapes change, on and off the ball, but still...

Where does this general aversion with 3 at the back come from? To me, it doesn't really matter, plenty of shit managers have deployed 4-4-2 and it doesn't get the flack 3 at the back gets. I'm sure I'm lacking some context
For me it's the inflexibility. Sticking to something that doesn't work without trying anything else. Three at the back is just more rare than four, so there's at least a chance it's part of the problem when results are consistently shit with a team that basically never played it. Can't hurt to tinker when things aren't working out, right?
Want Carrick Man Utd to destroy his Ac Milan team when we meet soon. Just to cleanse some left over demons lingering. That will be so satisfying before the start of the season.
