Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Vitek
Yoro - Kukonki - Heaven
Amad - Collyer - Kone - Dorgu
Garnacho - Mainoo
Obi Martin

We could start a team like this next season.
Average age must be around 20.

The system looks good when the wing-backs aren't being relentlessly pressed by the opposition. Unfortunately that will continue to happen in the league.

I'm really pleased with the performance. I still think he needs some players back if we're going to win the tournament but we're starting to see his system click a bit more.

It's weird saying this considering our xg and the scoreline but the attack still needs to improve (no one can fault the workrate though tonight). Having options like Mount, Mainoo and hopefully Amad before the end of the season will be a massive boost.

In fairness to Amorim, although I'm not a believer, we have been improving from a low baseline.

I would really love to win the Europa League. I think it would help everyone buy into his project a bit more (myself included).

Was a bit worried by our pressing structure early in the first half, particularly with how high the wing backs were getting and how easy it was making for Sociedad to get through us. But he seemed to adjust it a little bit to be more of a 4-4-2 out of possession, with Dorgu very high, and Dalot dropping in. That stemmed the bleeding and from there, while we weren't spectacular, we never really looked like losing.

My dream outcome would be by this time next year we're all discussing if we can beat Arsenal's 50 game domestic unbeaten record or whatever it was. I don't believe but I'd like to. I really would. Be great to be proven wrong.

So we’d have to go on a 50 game unbeaten run for you to be proven wrong? Seems like you just want him/us to fail.

I find myself wondering if our injury issues have helped focus the team and tactics. When he came in there was lots of rotation but recently we've been so thin on the ground we've played s a lot of the same players most games and I do wonder if that has helped. The last two games have been two pretty decent performances both in terms of defence and attack for the most part.

Will be interesting to see if others can come back in and do well.

Dorgu has also made a hide difference.

The issue there has been that the opposition playing their wingers high and wide has left us in a flat back 5, marking 3 players and therefore outnumbered in other areas. But we’ve already started to deal with that by seamlessly switching to a 442 and being more aggressive in our press. I think the players are starting to get to grips with things now and I think some of these problems will be solved soon enough.

He needs time, patiente and players. And players will come with time. But he will deliver, trust me.

First time this season I've seen us take the game to the opposition from the start and sustain attacks throughout the game. More of the same please, Ruben.
We were shit for 10 minutes. After that, we were good. But we did not take the game from them from the start.

Up until last night, we've been shit for the first 45 minutes of every game under Amorim so when I said we "took the game to them from the start", I was referring to how the majority of the first half was very good, as well as the entire second half.

This thread gained 3 pages since final whistle of a great performance.

If we had lost, it would have been 20+ pages already.

Why are people so desperate to criticise and ready to spam frustrated and hateful comments all day, but prefer to stay silent when there's praise to be given?
A lot of people are making positive comments on the various player threads. Nothing wrong with this thread being a bit quieter whilst that’s happening.

We’re improving and he deserves all the accolades for the recent results. Great stuff today.

It’s that old adage. Complainants are always more vocal than advocates.

A very well deserved win, good stuff by the gaffer.
Amorim: You can feel it, the fans, the noise, it's hard to explain, confidence from supporters, gives us a lot of confidence to go to our games in Premier League. This game today was very good for everyone in the club.
Need to go the distance in the Europa League now. Champions League qualification would be a real shot in the arm for this project.

United are a quality Europa League side so it's always a good watch at this level.

A nice confidence boost for some of the players who have taken a bashing on socials for the last few months too!

Welcome to RedCafe. Where one day a player can be considered world class and completely shit on another day.
Ano, writing the kid off after 3 games

The fullbacks are just deep lying wingers, of course they going to be pressed no matter what the formation is. It’s on the midfield and defence to give them an option when they have the ball.

Agree fully with this.

Agreed. Amorin said the difference was how physical we were. They were a small technical team who barely pressed.

There clearly is improvement to be seen. Add to the team that played yesterday Martinez, Shaw, Mount and Amad who in theory are all among the best players we got and suddenly there might be light at the end of the tunnel.
A bunch of players that are not fitting out and 3-4 in and with a bit of luck when it comes to injury we could look much sharper.

Shaw doesn't get into the team if Martinez is fit as they both play at LCB. Play Shaw at wing back and you'll see Dorgu warming up within 10 minutes cause Shaw broke down again after 2 runs.

Would get injured getting of the bus, Dorgu the future, Shaw should leave in summer

That was one of the best attacking performances under Amorim. Really happy with the way we played.

Interestingly, it coincided with what I would say the best game for Zirkzee and Hojlund this season.

This is what I want to see till the end of the season, build momentum going into next season.

Shaw and Mount should be sold at the first bargain opportunity opening up in the summer. We need to be more harsh with our material, you can’t build a consistent starting 11 with crotched sportsmen involved. They are done. Question only is how many years and millions we want to drag them on cause we are so nice.

Its great to wake up and feel positive about united for a change.

In that sense it is an improvement. Needless to say, we were poor enough for ten minutes to give them a goal.

We need to come out of the blocks more composed. Our players seem slow to react to the opponents tactics.

Let’s not get too carried away, against better opposition like Lyon and especially Bilbao (who for me are favourites for the competition) we would struggle to get control of the game and missing so many chances is the real issue of Ruben’s team so far.

Zirkzee is improving on the pitch but both Hojlund and Zirkzee need shooting practice, they both miss far too many chances, the good news is they seemed to have at least formed a bond and a partnership that hopefully will start to show some rewards to the end of the season.

Amorim has got the defence and second line of four looking more compact and in unison however our front three just don’t score enough goals.

Potentially the club could still play 15 games this season and Ruben should sit down with Hojlund, Zirkzee and Garnaucho and just make them watch video after video of the chances they’ve missed and how selfish Garnaucho has been.

So far this season ;
Garnaucho - GP(44) Goals (8)Assists (8)
Hojlund - GP(38) Goals (7) Assists (2)
Zirkzee - GP(43) Goals(6) Assists(2)

That’s 21 goals at approximately 1 goal in 5 for Hojlund and Garnaucho and 1 in 7 for Zirkzee.

For context Amad was 9 goals in 36 or 1 in 4 plus 7 assists so 1 in 2.4 for a goal involvement.

Bruno 43 matches 15 goals 13 assists is 1 goal in 2.86 or 1 in 1.53 games for a goal involvement. Time to give Bruno the love he deserves, he’s so much better deeper in the team as well.

Ruben and his coaching staff just need to improve the front three to finish strongly, target all three of them at 1 goal in 2 matches.

That would give all of them another 6 to 7 goals and guarantee the team finishes very strongly, if Hojlund can’t do this play Chido.

I think Sociedad tried looking at last night but they couldn’t sustain it and ended up dropping off even with 11 v 11. There were big mismatches in terms of pace which it’s nice to be on the right side of for once. There was even a point that General Zirkzee absolutely rinsed someone for pace which was beautiful. If ever there was a chance to build up some confidence it’s now with Leicester next.

The foundarions of something are definitely there. Even just looking at Dorgu and Heaven last night ok it's early days still with the two of them but both of the potential to be very important signings if they keep progressing as they are. They're his signings

No one knows wtf this team will do at this moment. But a game like yesterday shows the players are a lot better than ‚14th place PL, this squad can‘t do better‘ nonsense spouted on here.

Signings like ZZ, Mazraoui and De Ligt looking great. Even Højlund looks like he might turn his bad form around.

Dorgu looking like a good signing, but raw. Heaven looks like a great signing.

Before we can challenge for anything, we need more goals from Garnacho, Højlund and ZZ, and start games better than we‘ve been. I‘d argue to get competition in for Garnacho, who needs to improve a lot.

With the right signings (rwb, st, cam/winger) I expect we can target 4th place next season.

And Bruno, has been fecking disrespected by the Caf. Our best player by far.

Lyon, Bilbao and someone good in the final. It's very tricky and will need loads of preparation but come on lads, you can do it!!!

We look far better when the wing backs are on their natural side and we have the option of them providing the width so the two behind the striker can support or go beyond the striker, it also meant Hojlund was able to attack space in the channels due to the two behind him going beyond him but still have options out wide.

I’ve been critical of the system on here a fair bit but will always admit when I’m wrong and last night showed that the system can work, it does need wing backs on their natural side but last night was promising if we can play to that level and everyone in their best positions.

It really is hard to tell as Sociedad were very poor. One thing that does seem clear is that, whatever problems exist in the squad, the greatest one is mentality.
