Rugby League 2026 @P-Nut returns to Rugby League - Retires after 2 games!

The fecking thread title  I want it changing when I go back again
This thread needs more love. Rugby leagues a northern game and even though I’m a union man, it’s a crying shame that the league thread never makes it past about 3 pages every year…..and two of those pages are me and @JinnerJamie griefing each other over him stealing my lawnmowers when his dole moneys run out.

And if you’ve got to sacrifice your bumhole sternum for the good of the thread, then it’s a price worth paying

Yeah I love the game, played it all my life, but unless you're batshit crazy you aren't going to play it much if at all. About 3 lessons on tag rugby as a kid is all most kids ever have. They've done a terrible job promoting the game when compared to union.

Our English and British sides have been great over the years, and if promoted properly could have brought new fans in to the sport, but it's always an after thought.

Super league being on sky doesn't help either I suppose, I'm presuming they aren't making that much off of the TV rights, so it would have been better getting a bigger audience on terrestrial and growing the game, rather than short term profits, that have now left the game in the mess it's in.

Even going down to a local level, when I was a kid there was about 10 amateur sides all with 1st and 2nd teams as well as every age group from 6s to 18s just around Oldham. Now there are 3 clubs with a 1st and 2nd team, no other first teams and only 2 clubs with proper youth sides.

I've just started my own kids playing, but by the time they are my age I'll be surprised if there's any of these clubs still standing.

We where excellent for 65mins, tired at the end a bit but it was a superb defensive display and clinical in attack.

Still not sure we have enough to beat an in form KR but we’re in with a chance now.

That's been it for two games now. I thought the scoreline flattered us a little bit and did a disservice to Leeds' efforts, but they also dropped a fair bit of ball and we looked dangerous every time we were in their 20, which is pretty much unheard of for a French-less Wigan.

Three weeks ago I had nothing but feelings of dread for this run of games, now I think we've given ourselves a fighting chance of doing something against the best team in the competition.

Just can’t help yourselves you lot! You could’ve waited 3 weeks before you looked like Wigan again… pie eating bastards!

To be fair the bits that I did see you fully deserved the win!
Should be two cracking games, think you have our number but will both be close hopefully.

Yeah, Smiths kicking was excellent last night, Farrimond was everywhere but as a young kid we can’t expect that every game. Really like the look of Hodgkinson, I think he could be an excellent FB in a few years. Reminds me a bit of Billy Slaters style maybe.

We need Field to do more in attack I think, the team need to find ways to make him gaps and put him through them.

There were a few times he should have been picked out, he's making the support runs on the shoulder but isn't being used (case in point, Walters should have passed late on). French has a great understanding with Field in this way, almost picking him out on instinct.

I love Hodkinson already: footwork, defense, good under bombs, but I would say he's benefitting from playing outside of Wardle rather than Farrell. Marshall has cut a frustrated figure all season while Wardle has been out, but that wing looks good again with a proper centre in place (Wardle was also a defensive beast last night).

Lewis was sin-binned for the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Trying to waste time, which was unnecessary.

Half two halves, Leigh were verygood theopening 20, us brilliantin the last 20.

We lead 20-6, but this is far from over.

Warrington made hard work of today’s game at Tolouse…conceded three tries in ten minutes from 24-0 up. Think they needed a fourteen point win to overtake Leeds in the table.

Fair play to the home side though, they played well second half.

What a finish this is. Rovers are clinging on Leigh throw again and Burgess match saving tackle!

We survived 20-16 what a finish to the game
Watched those last ten minutes…Leigh so very nearly turned that round. As you say, great finish.

I was actually shocked how shit the ‘ashes’ was. Promotion, cohesion….just everything about it.

International rugby union is the pinnacle of the sport and major tournaments are usually brilliant events. I could not believe a fecking crap international league is

Yeah, can’t disagree with any of that, though I’d contend that the State of Origin series in Aus easily rivals the best that Union can offer. League lacks the depth globally though, for sure.

International League is an absolute non-event. I'd prefer Wigan players to do well, for their own confidence, and to avoid injury, but other than that I couldn't care less.

However, it's somewhere on the very long list of things I'd rather watch than Union of any sort.

Yeah I’m guilty of not paying enough attention to origin. I’ll make a proper effort with it this year.

Now see, I’ve grown up around this psychology, being a union player in a rugby league heartland….and honest to god, banter aside, I just don’t understand it.

It’s hardly like comparing boxing and tiddlywinks. They’re very similar games ffs! Yet so many people, yeah love league….wouldn’t watch union if you paid me (or visa versa).

Not saying this aimed at you obviously, but I actually think it’s more a class war thing than an actual sport thing. Unions for the posh boys and us league lads wouldn’t be associated with that. And on the flip side, leagues for the coal miners who just want a scrap with no rules.

Gets on my tits to be honest

I'm fully aware my antipathy for Union comes from my upbringing, and that it is in many ways an irrational prejudice. But looking even briefly into the history of the schism between the codes I can't help but conclude Union is a villainous game for cnuts (present company excepted ), and League's global standing has been tragically held back by the other code's gatekeeping of various sorts over the years.

As for the game, every time I've watched Union I've legitimately been bored shitless, and I don't see that changing any time soon. So I'll stick with what I know and love, and leave the rest for others to enjoy.

@JinnerJamie thought you might be dispensing a bit of mirth at your mate from the other side of Hull following the game earlier
FC are doing all the work for me these days, it'd be like kicking a dying dog while they're down.

Homeless next year, may end up in a relegation scrap this year if they aren't careful... No wonder @T00lsh3d is looking for a bit of salvation in kick and clap rugby.

Us East Hull lads have some class, well I do at least

As the song goes though: FC get battered, FC get battered, FC get battered, everywhere they go, everywhere they go!

Mate don’t be encouraging the cnut, he’s got all week to think up his own material waiting for the dole office to open!

Just described the 12-month plan of every school-leaver from the east side of town.

Second bolded: that is the single biggest bullshit line I’ve ever read on the caf. Less bullshit in a Lucky Scout post!

Honestly, @Northstand - I just wish you’d attended a few of the West Hull FC vs East Hull FC junior rugby league matches I have. This lot tramping down Preston Road in their pyjamas with their cans of Kestrel Super, about 6 teeth per family…..you’d understand just how scandalous a statement that ‘classy’ claim is

That’s all of Yorkshire you tool!

You know what, bants aside.

So me and missus tool had a few days away in the lakes recently.

Missus tool is a massive fan a thrifting (charity shopping) so anyway, to break up the journey on the way back, I said let’s go do some charity shopping somewhere we’ve never been before…..because we’ve done most of bloody Yorkshire at least once.

Anyway, looked at the map and decided we’d stop in Blackburn for her to loot through the local charity shops. feck me. Never been before, but Christ I thought Hull was deprived. Normally I’d take the piss out of shitholes but I genuinely felt a bit sorry for the place. I actually think East Hull would be a move up in the world

Fecking Blackburn, paradise compared to Wigan !

You leave my mam out of this! I bought her them PJs for Mother’s Day

Cheers for the reminder, I'll bang that on until it gets embarrassing.

As someone that once wanted to go pro, that experience would be invaluable even if you get absolutely smashed. You'd quickly realise your weaknesses and what it's going to take to get to where you want.
