Rugby Union Discussion 2025/26

Bledisloe 1 is on the same time as my AFL teams plays Geelong in the grand final seeking back to back premierships.

I'm not expecting the Wallabies and the Brisbane Lions to win but I can only hope one of them get the job done.
…….hope rests solely on the Brisbane Lions then

Edit - didn’t realise I’d just missed it. fecks sake, way too early for the NH crowds

I think the host broadcaster wanted to avoid a potential clash at this time of year with a home prelim final for the New Zealand Warriors. As it was, the Warriors were knocked out of the NRL finals series 2 weeks ago so a potential clash was averted.

Yeah it’s tough to dodge the NRL, there’s so many back to back matches.

You watched any of the women’s WC? Finals at 4pm uk time today….clashes with SA Argentina but I think I might watch our lasses

I've seen a couple of Wallaroos games. Canada were impressive against our girls in the QF and looked good against the Black Ferns last week. Naturally I hope Canada win but surely the Red Roses can't stuff this up at home?

No love for the women today?

Edit. Although I forget there’s only about three English fans in here.

I'm watching, hoping Canada win. Canada need to move the English defence around like they did in the first 10 minutes if they're any hope.

Not sure you needed to clarify that one

Canada well on top now.

I'm watching too, just haven't been as active on the caf lately.

I'm going to Connacht vs Benetton tonight. First game of the Lancaster era.
The new stand is nearly done, but doesn't open til January.
It looks fantastic though and I can't wait for it.

Our high performance centre is also finished apparently. It's getting rave reviews too.
It really feels like Connacht are getting proper investment after always being the poor cousin.

Of course, managed to watch about 10 mins of the second half in between running around after people

I’ve made the massive mistake of not watching much stuff since we moved and been focused on the house, the old house….or running around after kids. The result is that my ringfenced time for sport has evaporated and just gets eaten by being dad taxi or some other tedious shit. People used to feck if and leave me alone between about midday and 10pm Saturdays. Doesn’t happen anymore

Cowshed no more!

The new stand looks fantastic!

Great win too, although very attritional for both sides.

Benetton lost a forward with what looked like a bad ankle injury after literally 90 seconds into the match.

…..it’s still the cowshed mate. Just a posh one now

South Africa smashed Argentina 67-30 in Durban but Argentina's 1st try will surely go down as the most bizarre meat pie of 2025.

Cheslin Kolbe won't make that mistake again, he'll either pass or punt kick the ball to the designated dropout taker.

Sacha Feinburg Mngomezulu was sensational among other teammates who starred.

Sensational might not be enough to describe his match. What a player, what a game

The 2027 Rugby World Cup is officially 2 years away.

Will the Wallabies achieve a fairytale resurrection from rock bottom in 2023 to winners on home soil in 2027?

Will we see a first ever 3-peat?

How will Antoine Dupont go playing a run of Tests in the Southern Hemisphere for the first time in his career?

Will Ireland win a knock out match for the very first time?

Will Steve Borthwick develop a personality in time for the tournament?

The draw is on December 3

Can already answer question 4. Nope

The teams for the final 2 games of this year's Rugby Championship have been named. The matches to be played in Perth and London are to be played at a good time for those on GMT/GMT+1 time.

The Springboks are warm favourites to end up winning the tournament, but Australia and New Zealand have a chance, albeit a small one.

If the Wallabies beat the ABs, the Boks would need a bonus point of any variety to retain their Rugby Championship title, should the All Blacks win in Perth a win for the Boks at Twickenham would be enough to win the tournament. Argentina is mathematically out of the running.

Predictions: Wallabies by 10, Boks by 20+

Wallabies (1-15): James Slipper, Billy Pollard, Allan Alaalatoa, Nick Frost, Will Skelton, Tom Hooper, Fraser McReight, Harry Wilson, Jake Gordon, Tane Edmed, Filipo Daugunu, Len Ikitau, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Harry Potter, Max Jorgensen

Replacements: Josh Nasser, Tom Robertson, Taniela Tupou, Jeremy Williams, Rob Valetini, Ryan Lonergan, James O’Connor, Josh Flook.

All Blacks (1-15): Tamaiti Williams, Codie Taylor,  Fletcher Newell, Scott Barrett, Fabian Holland, Simon Parker, Ardie Savea, Peter Lakai, Cam Roigard, Damian McKenzie, Leicester Fainga’anuku, Jordie Barrett,  Quinn Tupaea, Leroy Carter, Will Jordan.

Replacements: Samisoni Taukei’aho, George Bower, Pasilio Tosi, Patrick Tuipulotu, Wallace Sititi, Cortez Ratima, Rieko Ioane, Ruben Love.

Springboks: Damian Willemse, Cheslin Kolbe, Canan Moodie, Damian de Allende, Ethan Hooker, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Cobus Reinach; Jasper Wiese, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Siya Kolisi (captain), Ruan Nortje, Eben Etzebeth, Thomas du Toit, Malcolm Marx, Ox Nche.

Reserves: Bongi Mbonambi, Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Wilco Louw, RG Snyman, Kwagga Smith, Grant Williams, Manie Libbok, Jesse Kriel.

Pumas: 15-Santiago Carreras, 14-Bautista Delguy, 13-Justo Piccardo, 12-Santiago Chocobares, 11-Juan Cruz Mallia, 10-Geronimo Prisciantelli, 9-Simon Benitez Cruz, 8-Santiago Grondona, 7-Marcos Kremer, 6-Pablo Matera, 5-Pedro Rubiolo, 4-Guido Petti, 3-Joel Sclavi, 2-Julian Montoya (captain), 1-Mayco Vivas

Reserves: 16-Ignacio Ruiz, 17-Boris Wenger, 18-Francisco Coria Marchetti, 19-Franco Molina, 20-Juan Martin Gonzalez, 21-Joaquin Oviedo, 22-Agustin Moyano, 23- Rodrigo Isgro

7 black penalised for offside. That never happened when the actual GOAT Richie McCaw played. 3-0 Australia after 5 minutes.

I'd like Matt Carley to play more of advantage for a penalty instead of just playing advantage for a couple of phases and blowing it up for no reason.

That Quinn Tupaea try was as soft as butter. The defence was as weak as washing up water to quote legendary former Australian cricket captain Richie Benaud.

What’s the story of the first half? Tuned in at half time and it’s not particularly great stuff from either team

Wallabies had some good moments, but the All Blacks were more clinical. The best passage of play came from the Wallabies but the try was chalked off for Tom Hooper twisting Beauden Barrett's leg at a ruck.

Matt Carley's whistle dominated the first half but both sides didn't do their prep on him and his desire to be strict in his pursuit of a clean ruck.

Feels like I’m watching NRL the amount of high shots in this game

If (actually it won't happen) a head on head high tackle like Ikitau's is penalised in tomorrow's NRL Grand Final, fans and the media will throw an almighty tantrum about a lack of common sense and feel for the game.

The All Blacks have now won 11 straight against the Wallabies and are top of the Rugby Championship but their hopes of winning the tournament hinge on Argentina beating South Africa at Twickenham without the Boks getting a bonus point. Anything can happen but the Boks will surely do enough to win back to back Rugby Championships.

Argentina just got shoved off their own ball at scrumtime.

Argentina 7-3 after 10 minutes

Argentina will shit themselves every time the ref calls for a scrum.
I’ve been a bit soft and haven’t watched much RC this year….has their scrum struggled throughout? I tend to think of the Argies as being quite good scrummagers

Argentina vs South Africa is so entertaining because Argentina play in such a crazy way while South Africa are all about old fashioned Rugby

Canan Moodie was very lucky not to get a 2nd yellow for a deliberate knock on.

Scrummaging hasn't been a strength of theirs for a while now. Sir Graham Henry worked with them in 2012 and 2013, succeeding in getting them to expand their game but the scrum hasn't been a bonafide strength for a long time.

Shame. A big scrum disparity tends to lead to boring games as the superior team can just abuse it. And South Africa are the experts at that
