Ruud van Nistelrooy | Leicester Manager

Quit 1 match before the end of the season after, allegedly, he fell out with his staff and some of the key players (Xavi Simons and Luuk de Jong mentioned by name). Very poorly timed with an extremely important match to go which will determine whether PSV end 2nd or 3rd. Having said that, PSV have been quite terrible this season with no coherent style of play at all and everything depending on a 19 year old feeling up for it and Luuk de Jong scoring headers.

Ironically this was one of the only seasons (I feel) that we didn't manage to beat PSV at home.

From the outside looking in, surely losing Gakpo and Madueke in January didn't help the situation, or was it already looking rocky before that?

I hope he chooses his next job well, he's still quite inexperienced as a manager and a wrong move could ruin his career.

Hope he finds himself a stable club. Looks like he's done a decent job with PSV this season

No, that was definitely a huge blow, especially Gakpo who had a sensational first half of the season.

Resultswise he actually did fine, but none the less most PSV fans have been quite dissappointed (see @Eendracht maakt macht's post above) with the style of play or lack there off.

I feel bad for Ruud though, he told the board he wasnt ready for the 1st team, but they kept whinging until he said yes.

Yeah, very. He basically made the wrong move to let himself ultimately be convinced to take this job - and you can say he's actually been proven right by this latest development. I have no idea what his level or niche is as a manager, but given PSV's style this season, he might be more suited to a subtop team where a more passive playstyle is acceptable to the fans and helpful for results. Either way, I hope he finds something good for himself; such a nice and humble guy. A real pity he couldn't just finish the season.

He won a double and PSV are currently in second. Seems odd to leave now, even if they have an incoherent style of play - you'd forgive that given the players they lost this season, surely?

Ajax been shit enough and didn't capitalize - is that enough for him to get sack? Anyone able to shed more light?

Thanks for the clarification pal! I obviously haven't watched much of the Eredivisie, so It's hard to tell they've lacked a play style when you look at the table. PSV are currently the top goal scorers with the 3rd best GD and are still favourites to finish 2nd and get into the UCL playoffs.

That and 2 trophies...it's interesting that hasn't been considered good enough for a rookie manager.

That first trophy is the Dutch Charity Shield though, which no-one cares about; and the Dutch cup doesn't have a high profile either. Winning the league and performing in Europe is what it's all about, and both didn't go well. Still, second in the league isn't bad and Feyenoord has just been really good this year (only one loss all season).

The key issue here rather appears to be Van Nistelrooij's management style stubbornness and inconsistencies, and lots of decisions that his staff and players don't understand. Coupled with PSV's poor style, that doesn't sound like a foundation to continue building on.

As I said, it's sad that he doesn't get to finish the season with this one final game, but with the news I'm reading now, I'm not surprised Van Nistelrooij isn't coaching PSV next season.

Imagine Ruud as a striker coach ? Come back home Ruud

Ruud trains Harry Kane and Rashy - that's a sight

One rumour that is quite persistent is that he has little patience with players who are not of a certain level, which going by Ruud's level is a rather high bar. Same thing was always saod of Marco van Basten and Mark van Bommel to a lesser extent, but with Van Bommel I mostly think he's simply a bit of a mean twat.

A shame it's ended up this way. Before the world cup he seemed to have quite a good reputation as a manager. Losing Gakpo halfway through the season would have made it difficult for any manager. Since he himself thought he wasn't ready yet, maybe coming to be a coach at Utd where he could learn under ETH could be a good option for him? Carrick definitely seemed to benefit from starting as a coach for us before transitioning into a proper managerial role. ETH himself undoubtedly benefited a lot from his linkup with Pep at Bayern also.

Won two trophies and almost qualified for CL despite being thrown to the wolves and his best two players were sold mid season. Level of play wasn't amazing and Ajax' struggles surely helped. Wouldn't be surprised if they would look for a different manager anyways after the AZ match, but I can definitely see a future for Ruud elsewhere. Has a lot to learn still but he did well. Definitely deserved more support from the PSV board as well.

I feel bad for him too but we played terrible and it didn’t get better. We don’t seem to have a style of play whatsoever. Rumours are he lost (a part) of the dressing room and then it’s over. That being said we’ll probably appoint a bad new manager anyway.

Good luck Ruud! Great to see that he’s gotten a job in the prem. I would’ve thought they were gonna go for Moyes or some other boring appointment.

Will be interesting to see how his stamps his style on this Leicester squad .

Did not expect him to join Leicester. So quick after leaving us aswell.

Oh. I don't think that's the job for him

quite happy with this, risky move but probably the sort of move we needed to make, hopefully he can get our attackers into an actual plan to create chances.

I think if he hadn't joined EtH as an assistant in the summer he would have been a candidate then

Would be nice if we can loan some players and they can get premier league experience week in week out.

All the trademarks of a cheater - no wonder the club broke up with him.
you sacked him because the new manager didn't want to keep him on staff, why should he wait around? Where was the loyalty to him?

What do Leicester fans make of this?

Seen a few happy ones over at r/soccer

I like him but it’s mad that Ole hasn’t had a meaningful job offer since leaving United while Ruud manages us for four games and does fine and lands the Leicester job

Even if you think he was shite (he wasn’t) you have Coventry sacking their fairly successful manager to bring in Lampard who has failed repeatedly as a manager since Derby.

his time in the Dutch league too, OGS only have his stint with you and in Norway as he was a disaster at Cardiff
