Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac | Wrexham AFC Watch | Have Sold Minority Stake

He couldn't cut it in League One. He'd not done it before Wrexham, didn't do it for Wrexham, and is now not really doing it post-Wrexham.

It'd be a huge mistake for them to start bowing to sentimentality. Fortunately for Mullin, he'll be forever immortalised by the documentary.
Yeah, in NL and Div 2, he piled in the goals but last season showed he’d met his level and they’ve moved on.. one of the things I like is that they’re clinical about players as they’ve moved up the leagues. Thanks, bye

Imagine they get into the play offs. Competing for a 4th straight promotion. Has that ever happened in the football league before?

I had to laugh a couple of seasons back when some of the americans were concerned about a club from Saudi or the Premier League (I think Everton, in particular) would come knocking for him, and the talk of him getting a Wales call-up.

Did Luton or Bournemouth do it?

Luton spent four seasons in League Two and four seasons in the Championship. They were promoted from the National League in 2013/14 and from the Championship in 2022/23.

Bournemouth hadn't been lower than League Two equivalent since the 1920s, so couldn't really do it anyway, but even then they spent three seasons in League One and two in the Championship.

Think that was more a reflection on how poor Wales were a couple of years ago… a bit of rose tinted glasses about his ability and a bit of “we might as well give him a go, at least he’d get stuck in”

Just happy they are doing better than Birmingham. F Tom Brady and the investment fund group he rode in on.
100%. Can’t fecking stand Brady.

No hard feelings towards Birmingham as a club, but I’d laugh if they went down.

Big fan of what’s happening at Wrexham, especially for the fans and town. Don’t want to see them go up to the PL for a few years though. They’ve had an amazing journey but IMO it would be wrong for them to buy their way to the top table. I reckon there’ll be some serious resentment if and when that happens. Would like to see them tough it out in the Championship and earn the right to go up.

No. They already have the record with three in a row. 4 in row would just add to that record. Even with their money it’s an amazing and almost impossible feat if they pull it off.

I think that boat has sailed. I'm sure there was resentment from the day Rob and Ryan took over.

They’re not that rich. I’m pretty sure 50% or more of the other owners in the league are worth more. It’s on the other owners if Wrexham go up because of spending.

I didn’t make myself clear - I was referring to the overall trajectory that Wrexham has had since they came in, ie getting a pair of owners who invested emotionally in the club and got them the Disney deal, which garnered a global audience and investment that set them on their way up the ladder. Yes they had to make a lot of smart (and no doubt lucky) decisions too, and they made mistakes, but personally I wouldn’t want to see them reach the PL for a good few years at least.

If that documentary stops being popular, as happens to shows, are they not up shit creek to a great extent?

They could do worse than try to entice Mitrovic to the championship and hope that he fires the goals to lead them up

Dan James would be another smart pickup

I don’t think they have crazy money, but I think they have done really well in terms of player investment

Depends how well they can get their shit together now.

In reality Wrexham is no smaller a club than Brentford or Bournemouth. No reason they couldn't sustain a similar level of success.

Yeah fair point. They'll probably need to become minority owners though to be at that level?

Will probably be in the prem soon.

Don't think they're anywhere near ready to go up when you look at the composition of their squad. Average age is far too high. However high profile cup wins and finishing just off the play offs would be a very good season and could still sneak into 6th.

I read a lot about their spending, but how do they rank financially currently against other Championship teams?

Regardless of everything, you really have to take your hat off for Phil Parkinson though.. Massive job he is doing!

3rd according to Transfermarket on expenditure but 1st by a mile on net spend (€38m). They didn’t make any money from transfers in comparison to all the other big spenders. Another Welsh club, Swansea, are in net spend second place (€15m).

Pretty sure their wage bill be up there on previous years signings and free agent pick ups.

Fair play to them. They've done a lot better than I expected, especially Parkinson. Perhaps all he needed was a truck load of cash!

What a good luck story. Just two Hollywood stars with loads of cash and suddenly they are doing ok. What luck.
Yeah, a bit odd - the narrative 'of a fairytale' anyway. I'm not 100% sure about the quantities of cash they've thrown about (& how it compared to other clubs in the lower leagues before they made the championship) but from what I read on here, it certainly wasn't a 'level' playing field, with Wrexham having a big advantage over the rest. I'm sure that's nullified in the Championship though, right?

You'd have to check wages to assess how much it is but they have spent big as @whitbyviking has alluded to.

There's no fairytale here, just another money team outspending the rest, they deserve the same level of respect as City.

It feels comparable to what RB Leipzig did while going through the lower divisions in Germany. Granted, the owners are indefinitely more likeable.

Sort of assumed something similar, yeah. Do you think the 'fairytale' narrative would have been washed away if the owners weren't as likeable (and the PR with the reality show etc not as strong) or if they were, say, some US VC firm or so?
