I was looking around some of the salaries paid to some of our youth talent, and then looking at what they’ve done so far.
As you can see there appears to be no consistency. Is this due to agents getting involved or the club negotiating?

For example, strikers

Joe Hugill, age 22 - 5k per week.
Including loan spells he’s played 57 senior games and scored 7 goals

Ethan Wheatley, age 19 - 10k per week
Including loan spells he’s played 17 senior games and has 1 goal

Chido Obi Martin, age 17 - 15k per week
Has had no loans yet. Has played 8 senior games and scored 0

Other players at the club

Dan Gore, age 21 - 3k per week
Including loan spells he’s played 7 senior games

Toby Collyer, age 21 - 15k per week
Including loan spells he’s played 14 senior games

Harry Amas, age 18 - 5k per week
Including loan spells he’s played 13 senior games

Radek Vitek, age 22 - 2.5k per week
Including loan spells he’s played 53 senior games

Ayden Heaven, age 19 - 13k per week
Senior appearances 6

Kobbie Mainoo, age 20 - 20k per week
57 senior appearances for United, 3 goals. 10 senior caps for England

Average footballer weekly salary per leagues

  • Average footballer salary at PL clubs - 67k
  • Average footballer salary at Championship clubs - 11k
  • Average footballer salary at L1 clubs - 7k
  • Average footballer salary at L2 clubs - 2k

So, not sure how we compare to other PL clubs but looks like in some cases we are over spending in comparison to where players are talent wise, for example Wheatley and Obi are overpaid in my opinion. Whereas poor Kobbie Mainoo is only paid 20k despite playing 57 PL games and 10 times for his country

*updated Mainoo figure from original 10k

Wheatley? Yes probably.

Obi? Nope, not for someone who was a free signing and who imo seems destined for the first team. Small fry in the grand scheme of things, and otherwise he might not have left Arsenal.

Arguable in my opinion. He’s far from ready. Big things were thought of Charlie McNeill too after 600 goals at youth level. We paid 750k for him and was probably an OTT salary too. Where is he now? Sheff Wednesday. He’s made 36 senior appearances across several clubs scoring 3 goals.

Im sure that the club could have been more creative with Obi, including talking about how opportunities would come etc. there’s a huge difference between men’s football at PL level and the youth team level so giving him 15k at 17 years old sounds like a potential problem to me

Don't know about Wheatley but wasn't/isn't Obi a crazy talent in the youth league? He probably could have had the pick of most clubs after Arsenal so I assume that number played a part in why he chose us.

Could have sworn Kobbie was on closer to 30k p/w still underpaid like but not bad for a kid.

See Charlie McNeill. We overstate what kids do at youth levels

Probably but if Obi does progress like expected then the 15k p/w doesn't seem to bad he's apparently contracted until 2029. Just have to hope we can hit gold with a few like Chelsea do so we can ideally use them or at worse sell on for a good fee like Garnacho or unfortunately the way Mainoo seem's to be heading.

You're probably going to be adding that JJ Gabriel to your list of overpaid youth soon enough if we're able to keep hold of him.

Vitek only signed a new deal in the summer so he must be on higher than that.

I don't have a problem with any of these wages, although I'll admit I have no clue what other big clubs pay their youths.

Wasn't part of the reason Obi came here was over salary dispute with Arsenal? I just don't have an issue with his salary and if he comes good, great investment. If not, not a big deal. I've been more concerned with how we extremely overpay the first team and how we handle contract extensions. It's being addressed now, so that's all good, but we're still feeling the effects of bad salary management in the recnet past.

I’m saying the crap sites you took them from made them up and you’re foolish enough to believe them.
I actually looked at several sites to make sure that they were all in the same ball park. Believe it or not, you’re perogative. Perhaps you can post what you think they are and show your source

Surely Kobbie mainoo isnt on 10k a week?

I know thats still a mad amount for the likes of everyday people like us... But hes been sitting in that dressing room the last 2 seasons surrounded by jokers getting paid 20x that and not playing anywhere near the level he has been.. Must be a right sickener to him (if true)

The problem with Mainoo is that while he's underpaid, he's looking to go up 10 times as much to near £200k according to some reports. So it must be demotivating to him to know that he's played in a Euros final, yet is being paid way below the average PL wage. But also he's only 20, I'm sure he would get that contract within a few years if he performs, should accept £80-100k or whatever.

Imagine being 18 years old and signing a football contract that will guarantee you £1.3 million per year for the next 4 years. Then imagine that 2 years in, having barely turned 20, that people will consider you criminally underpaid and that you should earn 5 or 6 times more than that despite not being a starter for your team.

There's too much money in football.

Mainoo isn't getting his share of it.

if you’re actually serious i can source some kids for way less per week.

People get it twisted you're not paying for the player they are but the one they might become, some you take your medicine on some you don't, I wouldn't write off 19 year olds because they don't score goals for a team that are the lowest scoring team in the division
