Did we have to pay him off?

Any confirmation that he left for free?

I have a few mates saying we paid him £40m to leave which I think is nonsense.
Clearly not £40m. Reports suggest £5-10m.

Essentially each party has made sacrifices to make it happen. Inter, Utd and Sanchez.

Very pleased he’s finally gone.

I've read a few reports saying we gave him 5-10m pay off and he left on a free transfer, the latter I'm annoyed about as I thought we would have recouped a little of the 40m we paid him in wages.

When you look at the mess Real Madrid are in with Bale and Arsenal are in with Ozil.

Such a huge bonus and relief to get rid of Sanchez.
Bale's is unique, one minute he's scoring in CL finals and roasting Barca and given a 600k per week salary, then next minute he is double relegated (to bench, then stands).
Their situation is more toxic, they publicly want him gone and haven't been diplomatic about it, so he has dug his feet in and saying I'll continue to collect trophies and my huge salary until I find a good offer or I'll run down my contract. They are stuck and everyone knows it.

They should just pay him half his contract upfront and let him walk.

If we can't sign another Right-sided Forward, hopefully we have a buy-back clause we can activate in early October.

He pissed off two locker rooms in the span of a year. How much longer until he wears out his welcome at Inter?

Glad he has gone. I was a muppet when he arrived so can"t critisize Ed or whoever arranged the transfer, it was needed at the time. Nobody saw the immediate decline coming.
Oh well glad is over and would be great to beat Inter in the Europa final now!

Personally think we have got really lucky considering we still owed him about 40 million even getting 30 million of that of the books is a massive win.

Just hope we start to learn from our mistake and get the wages we are offering players under control so it's possible to sell them and not have to pay them to leave. Saying that we seem to have made a similar mistake with De Gea so we haven't learnt.

It feels like we've been so utterly dreadful at recruitment that we've been terrified of letting players go because of the fear that we won't be able to replace them. Having a stronger squad and the ability to sign good players again would make a massive difference in that regard, and there have been some positive signs we're heading in the right direction. If De Gea tried to pull that crap with Madrid now, for example, he'd be out that door faster than you can say Dean Henderson.

Yeah a bit annoyed, but nothing we can do really...due to Covid.

No club would spend a penny on him..let alone his wages. Grateful enough Inter took him off our hands.

His 14/15 and in particular 16/17 were up the with the best we’ve seen in attacking player in the Premier League during the last 10 years. Never got remotely close to that level at United.

The issue is we can't show him the door the guy has a contract worth at minimum 60 million he isn't going to make that anywhere else, he knows we couldn't sell him, he knows that dropping him and having the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world sitting in the stands is not good for the club, so we don't want to drop him. He holds all the cards we can't just show him the door.

Its also much harder to sign, players, when you have so many players on your books already. Our squad is massive, we have 7 first team centre backs for instance. The squad needs to be managed better and that starts with getting the contracts we are handing out in order.

It has been announced as a free transfer.

Common sense suggests he is unlikely to have had any pay-off from United.

Inter are paying him 7m euros net per year on a 3 year deal. If you do the maths, taking account of the different tax rates in Italy and the UK, that looks remarkably similar to the figure Sanchez would have earned at United over 2 years (had he been sat on the bench), once the tax had been taken off.

I read the details of Sanchez's United contract in the Football Leaks book while shopping in Waterstones about a year ago. There is a vast difference between the minimum (from memory about £18m if United are competing in the Champions League that year, lower if not in CL) and the maximum figure (about £25m) he could earn.

That's not always the case though unless its just in the EPL as Im pretty sure we have put clauses in deals where we stopped clubs that signed our players before from playing against us in a cup or league match for a game or two?
You can't sell someone a car and then tell them they can't drive it on the way to the same job interview as you, that would be fecking madness. Once he's their player they can do what they want with him, if he was still on loan that would be a different story but we can't write a no play clause into a transfer deal in case we come up against them, why would they even agree to that for a start?

I'd love for journalists to mention Sanchez if Jose Mourinho starts talking about not getting his transfer targets again.

Worst United transfer ever.

If they sell Kane, they will definitely bring that up

I'm waiting for Sanchez and Inter to come out and start taking digs at us for his failures in Manchester pretty soon enough.
Scenes if they beat us in the EL final with Sanchez, Lukaku goals and Young assist.

Good riddance. Not going to blame Ed for signing him, everyone was rejoicing at the time. In hindsight, it was the worst transfer in our history.

What I hope is we have learned our lesson of giving exorbitant wages to stars (regardless of age).

That clause against old clubs I was thinking of is probably for loan deals as I thought Mkhitaryan and Sanchez werent allowed play against us/Arsenal in a game for some reason when they got transferred in January as the season was still on?

Cue 15 goals 20 assists next season.

I'm serious.

...on a free. Inter will look back on it as a masterstroke.

Nonetheless, this absolutely had to be done.

His salary was just exorbitant and now it frees up even more money to go after Sancho.

For me, Sanchez represented every thing that was wrong with United over the last 5-6 years. I'm so glad he is gone.

1. Huge wages.
2. Not bothered to show up in games.
3. Too much media frenzie around him.
4. No logical reasoning for the signing, as his position was well covered that season when Marcus + Martial were having a mini competition.
5. Too many social media posts of him 'working hard' - but not fighting for his place.

I was so happy when he came in, thinking that we will play him on the right and sort the RW issue. Could have really been something if he applied himself here. Jose never even tried that, and then the rest is history!
