Sancho and Rashford: If you had to choose to freeze them out or loan them for partial wage coverage, what would you do?

While neither have covered themselves in glory in recent times at United, Rashford has done top things at this club in his younger years and has at least delivered something on our investment, happily loan him out if it means we save some cash. Sancho on the other hand can rot.

Is the idea behind "freezing them out" allowing your next manager to bring them in from the cold?

Because otherwise this question makes no sense at all.

I would rather loan them but if they remain at the club I wouldn't freeze them out unless they do something that warrants it. I'm totally against clubs doing these kind of things, I would tell them that they are at the bottom of the squad but that good and consistent performances on the training pitch and on match days can always change the hierarchy.

This, too.

Both players should be told they have played their last ever game for the club and should clear-out their lockers at Carrington (if such a thing still exists).

Both should be told that the club has secured a loan agreement with Kidderminster Harriers or a similar level team for the remainder of their contracts and that they should instruct their agents to find a better alternative within the next 3 weeks or those loan agreements will go live and be made public.

Both players need to drastically reduce their wages if they want to play football again at a competitive level. If they don't reduce their wages then United should make them train and play with whatever third tier club they can find to take them on.

A painful and expensive process undoubtedly, but the era of "player power" must be publicly destroyed and these 2 players are symbolic of that.

I'd choose to shoot them out a cannon right after ripping apart their contracts in front of them, but can't do that, so loan out I'd guess.

Rashford and Sancho are toxic, damaged goods. Bad for team morale and unity. The only option is to sell, or loan again. Making or saving some money.

Insane to think we'd even consider letting them sit on the bench and rot. Whatever you think of them, it's idiotic, spiteful behaviour, both from a human standpoint as well as a business and financial one.
I think that in some circumstances it makes long term business sense to set player expectations.

Ultimately if a player has shown a lack of professionalism, impacting the market for their potential sale, then the club are entitled to take whatever course of action they deem fit. In any other world, paying someone despite them failing to maintain these standards would be seen as generous, not spiteful.

Should any player fail to train, maintain fitness, act in the best interest of the club then the club would obviously try to sell if they believe the situation is irrecoverable. If the player cannot agree a contract with a new club (due to unrealistic expectations based on current professional failures), then they should see out their contract, but receive no additional support beyond a monthly bank deposit. After the contract expires, see what offers await after two years of inactivity.

The first time you do this it may cost you £10m, but you hopefully limit the number of £60m+ players who consider effectively burning bridges and downing tools in future, so it acts to protect future investments. If you enable the behaviour, you provide a pathway for other players to do the same.

Something tells me we can't get shot of them nobody wants them there poisen the two of them are , clubs know this and want them on the cheap.. Amorin won't let them spoil his dressing room so who knows.. shame that this club has attracted or bread players like this ..

Obviously you loan them out and take what you can get. Being petty is dumb.

Step 1 is don't give out these contracts. It is their right to decide if they want to stay in Manchester on their contracts or leave for less money. If he's content just sitting and getting paid, then that's what he'll do. Its good that players have power over clubs to force them to honor contracts and maintain normal human workplace standards.

United is simply dealing with the repercussions of horrible management of the past 20 years, especially the last 10. We deserve to be going through this. Hopefully it gets better, but there's no point in getting all toxic towards a couple of players who we decided to pay big money to opt for a different life style. That's on us.

Yes because it’ll ruin whatever is left of the interest in them from other clubs.
That'd be my goal. Firm example set that Manchester United will not tolerate unprofessional behavior like this - work hard up until you leave with grace or see your dirty laundry aired to the world so other clubs you thought might sign you have something to chew on regarding the attitude.

I don't remember even the likes of Tevez or Di Maria becoming this kind of insufferable during their testy departures. In fact w Tevez I feel like he worked even harder to prove a point.

Because Tevez and Di Maria actually wanted to play.

With Sancho and Rashford, they seem ok with sitting their ass on the bench as long as they get paid.

Yes United have been horribly mismanaged. But I don't think it's good that players who aren't bothered about being professional or trying their best can force the club into a situation where they're being paid so much money to do nothing. I don't have a solution but football isn't only a job, it's also a competitive sport that comes with obligations of how to conduct yourself. They're paid millions, the least they can do is be a good team player and try hard. It really isn't too much to ask. If you want a more easy going lifestyle go do something that isn't a competitive sport. Regardless of United's mistakes, I think it's quite selfish to earn so much and not care about your team mates or the fans enough to just try your best to help your team be successful.

Since Sancho only have 1 year left on his contract, I'd let him rot at home. I think it is about time we show some authority and use him as an example of how not to disrespect the club or the fans.

Some might say it is bad business, but this could be a small price to pay for avoiding other players to think it is okay to do what he did. So technically, it could be seen as a long term investment.

Rashford hasn't behaved in a way that deserves to be freezed out. Training poorly doesn't justify that and he's got historical good will with the club and fans. If the club deems him finished with us I think they should do their best to offload him to a decent non-rival club.

Sancho has no good will. He hasn't slagged us off directly but he has publicly slagged us off in a zoomer social media manner. Poor trainer, poor performer. Everything I despise about a professional footballer. Sickening to watch people earn that kind of money and this is their return.

Rashford had fallen out with 3 managers now. One who backed him to the hilt. The fact nice guy Amorim publicly hanging him out to dry after only being at the club a month speaks volumes of what his attitude is like

Freezing them out to set an example is not the smartest thing to do when we are cash strapped . Better off to stop giving high wages to non-deserving players so we don't ever find ourselves in this situation again. At this stage is to admit our losses and get whatever we can .

It's not being petty. Rashford has a contract until 2028. Would you want to loan him out for the next three years? Do not entertain loans and in January or next Summer he's more likely to accept a pay cut and piss off.

Personally I would absolutely freeze them out if they make it difficult to sell them. Yes it's going to also hurt us in the short term but it sends a message that we won't be bullied.

I would let them know early on that paying (part of) their salary for them to play for another club is out of the question. So either they find a new club willing to cover all their wages (as well as meet our demands), or they reduce their wage demands. And if they can't/won't do that then they'll have to stay, but they are not in our plans, and will have to sort their attitudes and application to stand any chance of getting any playing time next season.

Clubs rarely let players waste away in the reserves, but I think we’ve reached a point where players are confident the club will cave and cover their wages to move them on. Both Sancho and Rashford should be able to find new clubs, they’ve already been given chances to prove themselves through loans. Honestly, I’d make it very clear: if they can’t secure a move because of their wage demands, we’re fully prepared to let them rot in the reserves. Do this once, and it will set the tone for the entire squad moving forward.

Chelsea have "frozen players out" in the past and the only message it sent was that we were badly managed.

Nobody looks at what we did to Bogarde or Malouda and thought "Chelsea won't be bullied". They rightly thought "lol, fecking idiots".

The players hold all the cards really with the moronic contracts the club has handed them out.

Sure, you might leave them out and put them in the reserves or tell them to train with the kids, but you will be shooting yourself in the foot doing that, having to pay insane wages weekly to players who will be losing value and not contributing at all.

It might work with some ultra ambitious footballer like for example Ronaldo, who if he is put in this situation will do everything in his power to force a move away so he can play, but not with little twats like Sancho and Rashford.

They will happily take loans on deadline days and collect their salaries till the end of their contracts, because they know very well that the club has no other choice but to cave in and accept bad terms at the end.

Can we just 'loan' them to Nice? If Rashford/Sancho understand no one is going to buy them (looking like there's not that much interest so far), the real conversation is accepting the situation for what it is and Nice pay us a fee but get two players who will likely do very well in that league.

I think we have to accept we're going to get another Maguire to West Ham situation even with any buyer, where we need to pay them out if we want them to move.

I would say loan and having both around the club isnt any benefit to United. Sancho wont sacrifice his big signing on fee next summer with a permanent move and Rashfords stock is so low nobody will sign him permanently, best case scenario with him is probably another loan with option to buy - Mad that he still has 3 years left and could see this being an issue again for another 2 summers.

Why freeze them? I wouldn't loan them. Either full sale or they do their job here. Training and playing when manager decides.
Why we should be donkeys every summer? Paying good players to play for other clubs is just moronic thing to do.

But they don't do their job, that's the problem. They cause unwanted distractions and set poor examples. They aren't wanted at the club.

Loan them. All this talk of freezing them out, docking wages and trying to act Billy big balls is all fan fiction. That's a terrible route to go.

Ultimately, we offered both of them contracts. We'd be fuming if, half way through, they were playing well and downed tools to go back on that contract and leave. Not turning up to training etc to force thensleves out.

Can't be hypocrites and now want the club to go back on the very offer they asked the players to sign. That's a crap way to act. Learn from it and move on but do so with some credibility and dignity ffs.

Some people need to remember - neither of these lads have done anything wrong by having the contracts they have. You're just overly emotional and irrational because it's football and people let emotion completely over ride basic, common sense.

Can't argue that, absolutely can argue the club should be playing ball with Sancho whose conduct has been poor outside of his first season.

This must be a wum because Half of your post is exactly what they have done. They got the contract then in Rashford case fecked it off for the last 2 years when we needed him the most. Jogging about and going on benders and lying to the club. And this is from our top earner who is apparently "one of us"
That's why I don't like him more than Sancho because he's not remotely in the same position as Rashford regarding the fanbase etc.

For Sancho, I would consider taking legal action to sue him for breach of contract or conduct unbecoming of a United player and terminate the contract wef. At least we can save on paying him ridiculous wages for nothing.

See my post above.

None of what's been put is plausible ffs

No, we can't sack/sue either of them. There's no grounds there to do so.

Rashford got frozen out by Amorim because he deemed he wasn't training hard enough. That isn't a sackable offence. It just means he doesn't play. That is the punishment.

Sancho did a couple of social media posts (well, one), got punished by Ten Hag, the punishment is now over but there's no future for him. Again, not a sackable offence.

If the club tried to do either, the player would then sue for unfair dismissal, and win.

Agreed. Some strange takes in this thread.

I think theres a good chance Rashford ends up at Villa as part of a deal for Martinez. Sancho? F*ck knows!

Ideally they'd both be gone.

But I have a strange feeling that if we get Mbeumo, rashford could be used as the number 9.

I do not see us being able to sign 2 tens, a goalie and a striker, so something has to give.

I'd make the threat to Sancho, going through with it is another matter. He's a good candidate if you were going to freeze someone out - its generally going to be a bad plan in the overwhelming majority of situations.
I'd take a loan for Rashford. But it would have to make sense for us - he'd need to be playing most weeks and ideally in a system that suits him. So no barcelona loans. They can afford him, as can Newcastle or Chelsea. Aston Villa i'd consider because they have genuine financial issues particularly around the wage bill.

Taking the number 10 of Rashford is a good start.. spells it out clearly that you are no longer seen as a player of the first team squad. If we upset you, we dont care.

Rashford has high level delusions thinking he can play at the top level but it is clear he cant.

Keep them all at Carrington whilst we go for pre season tour.

Woody is this you?

Any fans who want to be nice to Rashford and Sancho, don't really care about the club or are happy with us being a mediocre club. Look at how the top clubs like Barca, Arsenal, Chelsea freeze out players they don't want. That's how top clubs should operate.

This holier than thou attitude at United needs to stop. We aren't special. We're broke, have terrible owners, and need to be ruthless to rebuild a mid table squad.

Rashford was offered a contract to work hard and perform. Walking around the pitch and not performing is a breach of contract spirit. And on top of that to say I'm only going to Barca and I'm not lowering wage demands is Rashford going nuclear against any amicable solution.

Our response here should be as other posters have described, demote them to train with Youth team, offer terrible loan options to him, until he finds a club willing to pay for his transfer and wages.

Simple as that and watch the magic happen. These players have massive egos and until you starve them of what they crave most, they won't compromise.
