Who could have seen it coming? Except the bloke standing next to the prime minister telling him what was coming, on live television...and almost anyone else with common sense.
Also FYI case numbers here have barely gone up at all since we went into tier 4...and I don't mean as in they've stopped going up because we're in tier 4...they rate of increase began to decline, and then we went into tier 4. They literally waited until it made next to no difference to do it.
Or the government could have put everyone into tigther restrictions weeks before Christmas like they should have done and like everyone looking at the figures was telling them to do, and easily avoided all of this and not cost thousands of people their lives.
No one "broke" any of the restrictions around here, because until case numbers were over 1,000 per every 100,000, we didn't even really have any.
I wish people would wise up to how stupid it is to blame the odd idiot when it's just completely blatant that this is a fairly insignificant factor in the problem
Yes I should have added about the Government as well. As per my earlier posts, I am no fan and think they are incompetent beyond belief but in terms of rule breaking, it is certainly beyond the odd idiot. Every bit contributes to the problem.
Does seem like it’s been government policy to give ourselves just enough rope to hang ourselves. They’re desperate for us to blame each other rather than them, and yeah, idiots gonna idiot, but Boris and his cabal have far more blood on their hands than some random group of people having a small party at New Year.
Fully agree that the Government's handling has been atrocious and they are the main culprit in all of this however these people who have broken rules shouldn't be given a free ride to absolve themselves of any responsibility.

The government have handled this appalling, per capita we're still one if not the worst in the world for deaths.
Baring in mind the UK were not the first to be hit, infact multiple countries were hit first. It doesn't take a fecking genius to realise that when a country starts mass producing fecking hospitals that something serious is going down.
Being an ISLAND *should be an advantage* one that hasn't been exploited at all during this entire covid period by the UK.
The government should of done more to punish those that broke the rules whether that be their buddies or anyone within the country. Fines should of been handed out like fecking candy to those going on a jolly.

That’s been apparent since they first lifted restrictions in the summer. They’re absolutely delighted to sit back and watch people tear themselves apart, blaming each other. Four more years minimum of these cnuts.

Oh yeah based on what happened last time with BLM, and the fact people care much more about this, if there were significant protests on one side a counter protest would quickly follow, and very possibly get violent. A lot of people near breaking point at this stage.
Then again if it was just a bunch of people telling the government they’re shit, the unifying message of what to do about it might not be there, but a unifying message that what we’re doing right now is clearly the worst of both worlds could have an impact too. Maybe they’ll all be singing kumbaya in solidarity over the incompetence of this government.

This is what annoys me the most. We literally could’ve stopped significant importation of the virus had we acted quickly, closed the borders to non-nationals & required returning nationals (or those with rights to live/work/study) to quarantine in hotels rather than relying on people to self-quarantine themselves. They left the borders open, don’t test anyone coming in & think people will actually self-quarantine without contact with anyone else.
It’s been a half-arsed reactive approach since the start & almost a year later they’ve shown nothing to suggest they know what they’re doing. It’s the tremendous efforts of the scientists that they’ve managed to develop a vaccine so quickly that will hopefully give us an out of this horrible situation, but even now the govt isn’t providing any confidence that the roll-out will go as well as they claim. Bunch of dangerously incompetent idiots.
Johnson could've made the gravity of the situation crystal clear by sacking Cummings for flouting the rules but his 'we're all in this together' rhetoric was fatally undermined the minute he let that slide - only to push him out 6 months later anyway.
The combination of muddled thinking, mixed messages and cronyism has made this situation much worse than it needed to be. And that's not letting individuals off the hook, it's just the wider context.
