First half last night his passing was probably as good as we’ve seen from him. And it’s still not good enough. So irritating to see him consistently spraying balls out wide which require the full-back or winger to check their run. Yet he seems satisfied just to be reaching them.

Yet people argue that he has been good enough for Mou and Ole so he should be good enough, then go batshit crazy he has that 8-9/10 game every 12-15 games. Fred and McT give their 110% but they are just not good enough to be starting midfielders for us. Like DvdB, they could be that third midfielder, but they definitely shouldn't not be a focal point of our midfield.

Ill say it every time - he isnt a DM. If you stick Pogba or Bruno in that role and expect them to do a job, you will have mostly similar results. McTominay's biggest weaknesses are his defensive positioning and reading of the game, which are two of the most important attributes for a good DM. Its for this same reason that I dont think he can ever be a good DM - its not just little bits of his game that would need to be worked on, it is that the position requires pretty much the opposite of his skillset.

Fred has looked good when allowed more freedom and to get further forward. McTominay has also looked good when given that same freedom in previous games.

Bring in a player in the mould of a Carrick, Jorginho or Fabinho, and stick one (or both) of Fred/McTominay in front of them, and we will instantly have a far more cohesive and balanced midfield.

There is a reason why he doesn't play in midfield for Scotland.

Completely out of his depth.

Another standard performance from him, not sure why people are surprised, this is how he plays 99.9% of the time

He wouldn’t get in their team so hardly surprising he was rubbish. He’s not good enough, has had a woeful season and is still a guaranteed starter, it’s no wonder we are so poor. It’s not his fault but he sums up how awful this club is and how they get everything wrong.

He needs to be sold immediately, the ore he's around the more he will always be considered for his "good attitude", yet he's coward most often than not, slowing down every attack which go through him, passing back or taking forever to control the ball, while never being available for the pass because he's just lazy to make space for himself or not confiedent enough to play under pressure.

Not talking about his horrendous passing overal which itself should mean him never even being promoted to the first team in the first place if not for one of our former stubborn managers who liked to prove a point..

He is academy player so he will not be sold. Can't wait to see him in possession based football under ETH. Player who can't pass or control the ball will need to do quick and short passes. Pure comedy

That physically hurt to watch. He was that bad. Matic should have came on at half time.

Probably the worst passer I’ve seen consistently start for United in midfield over the last 30 years. He’s one of those who feels satisfied at just seeing the pass and hoofing it into that general area.

Bad passing, bad tackle, bad game. Picked up his usual yellow. Today he got one because of not able to control a ball and lunging into a dangerous tackle.

Reckon he's more suited for teams who don't want the ball
So would do good for a lower team where the minimum of getting around would be good.

He never gets called out for his performances out why
why would he improve? If it was Fred that had given the ball away cheaply for Iheanacho’s first half chance or had shown non-league level control leading up to that possible red card challenge Gary Neville would have been all over him like a rash. But he’s an academy lad who speaks well so gets a free ride.

He’s a poor player who never had any business ever making it out of our academy into the first team in the first place. He showed nothing at academy level, and has shown to be, unsurprisingly, well short of the level required at this level too.

Jose fell in love with his size and thought he could turn him into a matic

Not good enough, never was, never will be.

Should be shipped off and replaced by Garner, who could be a decent squad option.

Shit player. Not just this match but overall he had nothing to show as a player. Should be sold by the next manager asap

Has zero defensive awareness, players go past him with ease.

We might as well play Pogba in the DM role.

When he's at his best, he is functional and useful, and good for the odd goal. Solid squad player quality.

When he is bad, we'd be better off with 10 men rather than having him on the pitch.

I can't remember seeing a player with such a huge chasm between their best and worst levels. Worse yet, he's not been at his best for quite a while.

We've had a slew of much better academy players who were let go early or not given much of a chance. For me McTomiay represents how badly the club's standards have fallen in recent years. He's barely PL level. He wouldn't get a game at Brentford

That's over the top.

He can be a squad player as another #8 option in a defensive set up. The issue is we have no DM, and he became a regular starting DM. It's the better situational tactic now since it allows Fred to play in his preferred role and Fred is better than Mctominay as No.8.

Has been outshone by Fred a lot. It's hard to see what he offers when he's not played in a more attacking/free role where he can nick the odd goal.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
I actually felt Scott had arguably his best run of 'consistent' performances for the first month or two after Rangnick took over. He quite impressed me then, and made me wonder if I'd been a bit harsh on him previously.

Since then he's gone back to normal though, where he's so obviously a big weakness in the team.

We lost control of the game after he went out. He doesn't offer much at play-making, but at least he is a presence in midfield who leaves his mark in the oppositiion players.

Pogba on the other side... that guy offers absolutely nothing.

He’s a central midfielder who cannot pass a football. I don’t think it’s over the top personally. He’s a trier, but he has no business here. If he walks out of United tomorrow he’d do very well to land in the top 10 of the PL.

One of his worst displays in a United shirt. Gave the ball away on so many occasions, possibly lucky not to get a red, was on the other side of the stadium so was hard to see.

I never felt we had much control of the game anyway-Leicester were the better team first half. The problem I have with him sometimes is that yeah he can look decent at times, will have ok stats, will get stuck in but there are moments when teams just cut us to pieces and there always seems to be a huge gap in the midfield no matter who plays. Any quality number 8/10 will love playing against us and getting in those spaces.

Agree on Pogba.
