That's a real possibility.Going to be hilarious if Napoli wins Serie A with McT player of the year and Inter win the CL. Some peoples heads will explode with trying to rationalize him still being shit.

It's very easy really. Same way it's perfectly reasonable to think that Lukaku/Darmian/Mkhi/Smalling/Sanchez are/were shit despite them all doing very well in Serie A.Going to be hilarious if Napoli wins Serie A with McT player of the year and Inter win the CL. I think Smalling is the only one of those that didn't win the thing.![]()
Of course "shit" is an oversimplification - just using the word you used in order to respond to the point. Yeah, Smalling was of course the best of those players for us by far, but he was a limited player and someone we were probably right to move on when we did, same as McTominay. Are there still Utd fans who think Smalling was shit?
Pretty strange given he was the best defender of the post Fergie years up until Varane was brought in. Yes, he had flaws, but Utd had some exceptional defensive records in the years he was a cornerstone, far better than in recent times with more respected names. I think he was another case of a flaw(weak on the ball) being seen as everything and qualities outside of that being ignored. Did very well for Roma as well until his body let him down, winning the trophy Utd are going for tonight with Smalling one of their best players in that run.
None of those names were shit, Darmian was the weakest, Sanchez the biggest let down.
It's not that depressing. We've seen McTominay at United. Not good enough. No need to lose sleep over it.We get beat, and are now in 17th.
He’s just won player of the month for April, and I’d put money on him scoring tonight and putting Napoli top of the league.
This is so depressing.
Pretty much this. I'm glad he's doing well at Napoli and found his niche but fitting him in at United was never likely to work. He's a decent box crashing midfielder but we didn't even use him that way for most of his United career, and even in that role, he doesn't really fit in with the setup that we have. It's not that depressing. We've seen McTominay at United. Not good enough. No need to lose sleep over it.
Not depressing. I am happy for him. Happy that he showed all those who thought he wasn't good enough that he is a very usefull player. People should have listened to us who didn't wanted him gone.We get beat, and are now in 17th.

Mct gave 100% but wasn't good enough to be a starter. We also need to generate money, so he was sold. Not depressing. I am happy for him. Happy that he showed all those who thought he wasn't good enough that he is a very usefull player. People should have listened to us who didn't wanted him gone.
He might end up winning Seria A and being one of best players in the league. That tells something.
If we played him as a striker over Højlund I have no doubt whatsoever that he would have scored 3x the goals in the league. It’s pretty straight forward really.
He was played in a more defensive role and positionally he isn’t great in that role and he went missing in games.
Napoli and Scotland play him as a more attacking threat and he regularly contributes but he isn’t replacing Bruno.
It’s easy to say he should have stayed but he’d have struggled to be a starter, especially in this formation as he’d only be one of the more advanced players.

No one is good enough at United.. It's a United problem..It's not that depressing. We've seen McTominay at United. Not good enough. No need to lose sleep over it.
When does Ballon D'Or voting close?Another assist.
There is a bit of that too. Though sometimes the quality of the player is an issue. No one is good enough at United.. It's a United problem..

Oh big goal they've conceded. Could there be a playoff now?
Still top by a point. Got two easy (on paper/form) games leftOh big goal they've conceded. Could there be a playoff now?

Bingo. Ultimately he wasn’t good enough. And his departure was good for both parties. For those crying about us selling him.
Where exactly do you think we'd be right now if he'd have stayed? Best case scenario we'd be 13th instead of 16th. And he still wouldn't be good enough for a top 4 side, or a title winner.
Still a very tight league. Inter could still take it. Exciting it’s to the last minuteStill a point clear
Without a shadow of a doubt. He would have been a way better option than Hojlund as a centre forward or even as a "false 9".If we played him as a striker over Højlund I have no doubt whatsoever that he would have scored 3x the goals in the league.
I mean you can trace his goals alone directly to 12 points last season, so let's just say for the sake of the question we'd be on 51 points, with six to play for. To put it another way, we'd be in the top half with an outside shot at Europe instead of being probably the worst team returning to the division next season. And I still think we'd have cries of "we'd be a better team without him" and "he'll never help us make top 4." Guess what? We did that experiment - turns out we were wrong. It happens. For those crying about us selling him.

The thing is, if Scott was playing in the Ugarte position he wouldn't have been scoring any goals. He'd have to be playing as one of our #10s, not one of the two deeper holders. And this was the nub of it - he wasn't good enough as a central midfielder to start for us in the Prem - we were wide open, he'd go missing in huge games but then mitigate it with scoring a few late goals generally when things were positionally stretched and the bucket was being thrown.I mean you can trace his goals alone directly to 12 points last season, so let's just say for the sake of the question we'd be on 51 points, with six to play for. We kept putting "better" players in front of McTominay and he kept playing well enough to keep them out of the team. The "better" player we got when we finally sold McTominay had to be really good. A lot better than we thought he'd need to be, because it turns out McTominay was actually quite important. Hopefully Ugarte kicks on next reason because right now it was just a bad swap we made a loss on.
