He has his uses in some games, but I struggle to get over his ability to hide in order to not receive the ball.
What I'm worried about is that he doesn't seem to have benefited from ETH's coaching as well, compared with AWB let's say.

Perhaps i'll be in a minority, but I think that's a really good signing for Newcastle if it happens.
I think he'll find himself on the bench unless there happens to be some inspired position switch, like the opposite of Joelington's (sp?) where he turns out to be a decent target man
Says he's open to the move. As I said in his performances thread, I reckon this could be one of the easiest outgoing deals we can get done this summer.

He will be a pretty good signing for the majority of the PL teams. At the same time it would be a good time for us to sell as well. He's been a useful player for us at a time when we couldn't really get elite CMs in but I think now is the right time for a move for all parties.
He won't be a regular here anymore and getting 30 million for him makes more sense than using him as a backup. Similarly whoever signs him will get a PL proven midfielder while he'll get to play week in week out. It'll be a good deal for all parties involved.

Completely different style of player though but even if they were not it is subjective as to who is best as I think Longstaff is utter cack whilst you clearly see something in him.

They need to replace the British players they have at the club like Longstaff, Ritchie, Murphy , Fraser etc because they’re shite and not good enough. At least with McT they have a better player who they know is fairly reliable and in the case of Gordon someone with a lot of potential. It’s like when City buy people like Rodwell and Phillips. Helps them fill a quota and you have a decent squad player for that level.
They've done some good business but they've also signed Anthony Gordon and Chris Wood. Maybe homegrown quotas would tempt them with McTominay.

I think so. Not much in it but yeah. They can probably keep hold of Longstaff as a backup to the backups for a bit. He (McT) is more versatile too which helps.

You can call all the deities you want doesn't mean it's wrong. He's had 200 appearances for Manchester United. You'd have to be delusional to think that isn't PL proven.
I think it would be best for both club and player to part ways in the summer.

In other words, he'd be able to play to his strengths as opposed to massively exposing his weaknesses.

they should be targeting Maddison, having two 8s there like Mctominay and Longstaff just to run around in front of Bruno won't work long term, they need quality

Maddison isn't physically imposing nor does he have the work rate of McTominay. McTominay fits in with the style and physicality and non stop movement Newcastle has developed.
Newcastle's midfield trio would be Their Bruno, Joelinton, and McTominay. They are behind Almiron, Isak, and whoever occupies the left side in ASM or Murphy, etc. Newcastle have conceded the least goals thus far (19) because they work hard defensively and stay compact. Just very physical and shithouse of a team. Burn, Botman, Schar, Pope. Those are big guys in defense and in goal (Pope). Then more physicality and size in Bruno G, Joelinton, and possibly McTominay. Yes, they don't have the highest of technical ability and goal scoring/creating, but that's their side and it has been effective for them.
Yes I agree. I’ve wondered whether playing him consistently as an AM would actually make him a more consistent and productive player.
It seems that much of the footballing world (including many on here) still see him as a defensive player though. If they expect him to play like one they’ll be sadly disappointed.
We should start demanding outrageous fees like other clubs, 40 million and he can leave.
