Hertbreaking for Hearts (no pun intended, or?) but I'm kind of glad that the last non-Old Firm title was still won by Sir Alex...

If the assault did happen, it's no surprise they targeted Shankland, the boyhood Rangers fan. :smirk:
Not to mention him having a very aggressive playing style and having had scuffles with Celtic players in today's game.

Obviously no-one has the right to touch a player and shouldn't even be on the pitch.
But when 1000s run onto a pitch it's inevitable you'll get at least one idiot who will try and do something stupid.

People may not believe this but I genuinely feel for Hearts. They were the best team in the league this season but MON is an absolute icon to the Celtic faithful. No other manager in World football would have gotten Celtic over the line. He gets Celtic, is a Celtic man, and understands the club and what's required to get the club over the line.

I'm absolutely buzzing, naturally.

Fans on pitch attacking Hearts players were a disgrace.
Beaton and Walsh got them over the line though. In any normal league O’Neil and his players would have finished second and probably be looking at a major revolt right now. Not saying O’Neil didn’t galvanise them, he did, but he clearly didn’t deserve to win it given the events of the last couple of weeks. I feel sorry for Hearts not just because they lost out right at the death, but because they were cheated out of a once in a lifetime achievement for them and for their fans.

CLUB STATEMENT: EVENTS AT CELTIC PARK

16 May 2026
Heart of Midlothian utterly condemns the shameful scenes at Celtic Park this afternoon which have, once again, embarrassed Scottish football.

Reports of serious physical and verbal abuse towards our players and staff, both on the pitch and elsewhere, are deeply disturbing. We are investigating this fully and are in dialogue with Police Scotland. We will make no further comment at this time other than to say that it is completely unacceptable that our players and staff were put in that situation.

Given the menacing and threatening atmosphere inside the stadium, our entire staff had no alternative but to leave immediately, without undertaking post-match media duties. To our media partners, we apologise but the safety of our staff was our prime focus during these unacceptable scenes.

The pitch invasion caused a chaotic end and nobody seemed to know whether or not the match had been brought to a finish.

Our players were then denied the opportunity to thank our magnificent fans – sensational to a person – for their backing this afternoon and all season long.

We expect the strongest action possible to be taken by the footballing authorities in the interests of protecting the safety of players and supporters, and the integrity of our game.

This season has seen Hearts capture the imagination of football fans, not only in Scotland, but the world over. We pay tribute to Derek McInnes, his staff, the first team and the supporters, who have done the club proud this season. None of them deserved the disgraceful scenes that unfolded.

Ah so you’re a Celtic fan
You think THIS person is a Celtic fan?

I’ve drawn attention to your opinion about rangers fans being the only ones looking to be violent last weekend, being utter tripe. The victim mentality you possess is something else my friend, but it is consistent with both Celtic and rangers die hards. You’ve also somehow managed to get a ticket for a cup game at ibrox stadium despite living in Ireland, so I find it hard to believe you weren’t joining in with sectarian chanting.

Worst of all, your first comment on this matter was that “Celtic fans did nothing wrong” which I hope you would consider revising. Your fans literally threw the first punch.

I think in all likelihood @Irish Bhoy is either a member of the GB or actively looking to join it at the next opportunity.

Two wrongs don’t make a right but I am placing the blame for the events of Sunday more in Celtics corner, have now seen multiple videos from the rangers end that show no other rangers fans jumped on the park until they saw one of their own be knocked to the ground by a Celtic fan and then goaded at by several others. The guy they take down didn’t even look like he was being that aggressive to be honest.

I completely respect your right to have an opinion, it’s just sad that you think the rangers fans still initiated the trouble when theirs clear evidence of Celtic fans goading (I.e. not just celebrating with the players etc) and then attacking a rangers fan, prior to any physical assault by a rangers supporter. Glad you find it so easy to get tickets for the games though despite being on a hit list.

This would be a at better if Motherwell were the ones going for it. Hearts are full of scumbag supporters also, same as the old firm

The last weeks events have just shown what a league they could have in Scotland with stronger teams / better supported clubs. In a parallel universe somewhere, Hearts, Hibs, both Dundee teams and Aberdeen regularly get 40k gates in there large stadiums and all regularly challenge Celtic and Rangers to the major honours.

No offence to our Scottish friends on here, but you are all a bit mental which would also add to the drama. Pretty sure someone built a massive wall once to keep you all contained.

Seriously quit this fact narrative. Beaton who is an admitted Rangers fan is not going to give Celtic anything he can't get out off. Same for Andrew Dallas and the rest. It's embarrassing people trying to say these people are corrupt for Celtic

Isn’t that 14 of the last 15 titles? ‘Buzzing’, really?

No he’s not! And even if that was true he’s previously required police protection because of that support so it’s silly to think that wouldn’t have been on his mind as he’s taken 15 seconds to look at a non-penalty and decided to award it anyway. So no, I won’t quit repeating a theory that has now become very popular throughout Britain and can actually be substantiated with tangible evidence. Even blowing up with time left on the clock is something farcical you’re unlikely to see anywhere else in the world without real consequences to the result. The whole “it’s silly to suggest skullduggery, let’s just move on” is exactly what these guys want, I suspect now more than ever since it’s been exposed outside of Scotland now too.

A non penalty? He put his hand in the most unnatural position you can, and then proceeded to handball it. I'm not surprised it was such a quick decision, it was as clear a penalty as you will get.

If United were denied a penalty in the same fashion, I would be raging.

Hearts, A club who's fans flew a banner saying

"Stan Petrov
19
Days to live"

When he had cancer.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer set of non sectarian Edinburgh darlings.

Get it right fecking up them.

But it isnt as if all fans are monolithic. Some fans can be absolute bellends.

Congratulations to Celtic on an incredible comeback and a dramatic last day title win. The atmosphere was better than anything in English football all year long.

As a neutral, sad for Hearts to blow this when they were this close to a title. That's football. Seems a little cruel, but congrats to Celtic.

Why shouldn't they be buzzing, though? It seems as though a lot on this thread agree with you because I've read the same comment, but im not sure why their current success means fans of Celtic can't be that celebratory?

United weren't (obviously) as dominant, but even when we were on a streak winning 3 titles in a row (7 in 9 seasons), I remember the fans going chaotic in 2001 to celebrate.

And yet you and your fellow Celtic fans are the only ones who seem to see it this way. I still find the idea he’s used his hand to propel the ball that distance, at that trajectory and at that speed utterly hilarious right enough, it seems to go against physics but if the team that won a league off the back of that think it was legitimate then obviously it was. There’s at least a couple of angles that show otherwise anyway.

Above all else, unless it’s clear and obvious it should never have been awarded. You tag on the Hearts penalty that wasn’t given at Motherwell despite its clarity on replays, with the equaliser against Rangers and the Johnston red card that wasn’t given and you can’t baulk at people for questing the integrity of the league. That’s an awful lot of honest mistakes to go one team’s way in such a short space of time.

The only way to deal with this in the future is points deductions and fines for the club whose fans do this. That's the only way to encourage clubs to put measures in place to avoid these invasions.
I’d agree, it will never happen with Celtic though. Anyway, I do have Celtic supporting friends who I’d usually congratulate right about now, but obviously this one feels a bit different given the circumstances. Still hope they enjoy their night.

The Scottish Premiership's 18.5 attendees per 1,000 people at matches last season, a 5% increase on the previous campaign (higher than the 3% average) and 70% higher than any other league on the continent.

The Scottish Prem is already the best supported league in the whole of Europe compared to population size. The problem is the population isn't big enough for support to expand.

Literally filmed singing pro Rangers songs. It's an absurd theory to think pro rangers supporters are conspiring to help Celtic.

Of course, but as I say, these things matter in Central Scotland.

As for your last line, that's why they should just stay off the pitch. Seems they think it's sound to come onto pitches and goad opposition players and home support and think that should be ok?

No different to what Bayern or PSG are doing these days.

Plus Celtic have a long drought in late 80s/most of 90s when Rangers won 9 in a row (and then two after 1998).

However Celtic have underachieved mostly in Europe in last decade. Their best was the other season when they took Bayern to extra time I think in CL knockouts?

Celtic Park is a great occasion for any European night so they should be doing better there considering Rangers four years ago were within a penalty shoot out of winning the Europa league.

Context us everything. We have messed up on a number of levels from boardroom to dugout to pitch this season. It's been an utter mess but we got over the line.

Spot on.
