Scottish Football 2025-26 | Celtic sack Nancy after 8 games

Sure everyone in this thread is more knowledgeable than I when it comes to Celtic.

That said, just watched them for the first time in a very long time. They were a little unlucky today.

IMO it would be crazy to dump Nancy this soon into his reign, give him till the summer and make a judgement then.

He is losing game after game. Celtic fans want him gone

Not long now until this boring season is replaced with an exciting race between Celtic and Rangers for the title...

Must be their shortest managerial reign ever?

6 defeats in 8 games as the Celtic manager is bonkers. Back to the MLS he goes I guess

Dropping like flies today. Who will remain to fight for us when the robots take over?

I still don't understand why Celtic didn't just stick with Martin O'Neill for the rest of this season?

The leadership at Celtic has been abysmal over the last couple of years and it's come to a head this season. They surely knew Nancy was a high risk appointment given, firstly, he is an idealogue who would drastically change the way the team plays and refuse to bend under pressure? And secondly he would have no time to do prepare his team, as it is both mid-season and they had massive and challenging games coming up.

Martin O’Neill is a genuis. How on Earth he was able to get a tune out of this Celtic side is nothing short of a miracle.

He did well and knew how to play to the strengths and weaknesses of the players at his disposal. I would say though that Celtic were a little lucky in a couple of games during his spell, while they were a little unlucky under Nancy in a couple of games. The narrative has spiralled in diverging directions though, not helped by Nancy's 8-minute rant at his last press conference, while O'Neill self-depracatingly courted the media like the master he is. Obviously they should have kept him through the tough games before making a planned long-term appointment at the start of the January window or, failing that, at the end of the season.

Getting rid of Tisdale is the more important move for them. No idea how he managed to find himself with that much power at a club the size of Celtic.

I've absolutely no doubt that Nancy became an option purely because he already knew his assistant.

His press conferences were exactly like Amorim's.

'Needs time'
'Suffer'
'It's a project'
'I see progress despite the defeats'

A load of buzzwords to try hide what is in plain sight - poor results.

Managerial sackings in full swing up here in Scotland as Aberdeen also sacked their manager too.

Already that’s 5 managerial sackings (Martin, Rodgers, Kettlewell, Thielen, Nancy) in total so far in the Scottish Premiership & we are only at the midway point of the season.

You’d imagine that is Celtic now installed as the league title favourites & no doubt will win the Scottish Cup too I reckon.

Does Scotland have a winter break this year or has it been permanently scrapped?

I always thought the logical timeline here was O'Neill continued until after the league cup final (given he beat Rangers to get there) and then Nancy takes over early January if there's a break in the schedule as then he gets ten days-two weeks to implement his ideas to the squad.

Instead he comes in and straight away loses at home to Hearts and then the league cup final. Doubt MON would've lost either so Nancy was always on the backfoot and then finished off by Rangers defeat.

And now MON returns so Celtic have basically wasted a months which I think will be crucial come May.

He wanted to manage right away, he says he wanted to come in and have time to assess the squad before the Jan transfer window. I think maybe the board thought the cup was a certainty and that would be a good start for him.
“Yes, that’s why I came at this moment. I could have come a little bit later. But now, with the club, we decided that it was the moment because I needed time to assess the team and to evaluate. So if I was thinking about myself, maybe I could have been a little bit later.”

We've given ourselves a chance of the league but that's it. I don't see us as favourites, I see all 3 teams battling in a close fight until May but at least we have a chance.

Thank heavens Nancy is gone. Guy is inflexible, stubborn and uninspiring.

Was at Celtic Park on Saturday, system was killing the players. We don't have the players to play his system.

Can you imagine?

It seemed like a lot of the Celtic players didn't like the guy. McGowan made some revealing comments after the Rangers game.

Do yourselves a favour and watch the Craig Gordon save that happened virtually in the last play of today’s Hearts game.

Maybe the best I’ve ever seen.
