Wasn’t a red card. He’s at an angle and there are players covering in the are he’s most likely to run into before the foul. Yellow was enough.

The Old firm constantly get a helping hand, particularly when they’re struggling in game. Then they cry foul at each other for getting all the decisions.

His next touch and its him on the keeper who is way off his line.

The angle he was at was directly towards goal. all the other defenders are behind him , if he wasn't through why did the defender pull him down on purpose, obviously to stop the danger.

The next defender is about 3 yards behind him, no chance of covering. Blatant denial of a goalscoring opportunity.

Look at the one Celtic got against them vs Rangers where nir bitton was sent off. Much much further out and still a red. Correct decision same as todays one.

Enjoy the title! You play some really good football and can see Ange eventually heading to the PL.

obviously Furuhashi is the one that gets the plaudits and rightly so, his goals record is exceptional, but for me, the lad Hatate has been exceptional. His performances for what he cost, 1.4 million, the return his perfomances have been for that investment, unreal...

He's fantastic, and I'd take a punt on him. I think he's absolutely mint.

Problem is Scottish football is so poor. Don't think any SPL player is good enough for Prem apart from maybe Carter Vickers and Calum Mcgregor. Certainly don't think any player is good enough for Man Utd as they are a top 4 / top 6 team.

Shane Duffy made a career in the Premier league. Many SPL players would be absolutely fine.

Shane Duffy was a decent defender. He had no pace and therefore wasn't suited to Celtic as we played / play a high line. Brighton defended in a low block when SD was there, therefore his lack of pace wasn't exposed.

He was shite in a low block for us too when we were backs to the wall. Awful football player. Many better in Scotland who would be fine in england.

It looks like Dujon Sterling is away to Rangers. I’m surprised he’s moving to Scotland but Rangers are a huge club and Champions League football is a possibility at Rangers or Europe if they don’t make it.

I am supportive of young talent going to Scotland to develop. Some fold in that environment like Diallo but I think Sterling has the maturity and experience to be a great success if he stays fit.

Bizarrely his best position is right back and isn’t Tavernier undroppable? Unless Beale has plans to play him at centre back or left back, it’s a strange one. No way he moves to be a back up.

Is Tavernier not out of contract this summer? I know a lot of Rangers players are, they are looking at a big clearout this summer

I have no idea. Sterling is a better defender though but absolutely nowhere near the attacking output of Tavernier. Not many are to be fair.

Agreed on those two, think they are mint. Even as a Rangers fan I'd add Hatate to those? Think he's quality too, but has been injured recently.

I think that's next season, but I wouldn't moving on from Tav. As great as he is being a threat in the final third he's caught out far too often for my liking, especially in the big games.

From Celtic there are a few players who would slot into EPL teams.

The new right back is defensively excellent and would suit clubs who don’t rely on full backs to attack.

Carter-Vickers, McGregor, Hatate and Jota all have the talent to move to the EPL. McGregor’s age will go against him now though. I’d say Kyogo too but his age and injury record would go against him.

From Rangers it is more difficult though. Maybe Raskin who I think looks excellent. Cantwell can play in the EPL and has proven to play well however needs to rediscover that form. Rangers have a lot of garbage and it will be an interesting summer for you guys.

We were never backs to the wall in the SPL bar maybe at Ibrox.

Also, his dad just died before he signed for us. His head was all over the place. Scottish football is glorified league of Ireland. Standard has never been worse.

Its a glorified League of Ireland. Sligo beat Motherwell last Summer in a European qualifier. SPL is awful. I hate saying it as a Celtic fan but it's true.

Tavernier signed a new contract about a year ago. He has at least 2 years left on his contract. Hatate can't get in Japanese squad. Excellent at SPL level but it's a glorified League of Ireland. Jota may improve and get to EPL. He has ability, no doubt and is young enough to improve. Our right back looks decent. Perhaps if he keeps improving, he may get to EPL also.

To be honest there are loads of SPL players who were fine, are currently doing well, or could do a job. For example Joe Worrall and Scott McKenna are ever presents in the EPL this year yet neither were considered close to the cream of the crop up here. Someone like Tavernier despite his concentration lapses would be a far better attacking outlet than what most teams (such as United) have - he was top scorer in the Europa League. Goldson and Carter-Vickers would be comfortable. Porteus wouldn’t look out of his depth in the bottom third. Same for Kent who would enjoy the space he could hit in a counter-attacking team. Despite never being true standouts in Scotland, Henderson, Ferguson and Doig moved to Serie A and haven’t missed a beat. Same would apply for McGregor (far better than McTominay/Fred), Jack (better for Scotland than Mctominay/Cairney), Hatate, Jota, Duk, Kyogo, Maeda (would be valuable for any high-pressing lower-table team). Even Morelos if he could be arsed could be an asset.

Fun game so far.

Wonder how it’d feel for Celtic to lose big just a week after securing the title.

People are very critical of Scottish football but today is evidence of how good it can be for certain players.

Todd Cantwell is brilliant and clearly overcome his mental struggles. He said himself, he has a new lease of life in Scotland, loves the country and loving football again. If he moves back to England he will be thankful for moving to Scotland.

Joe Hart has said the same. It’s a different world in Scotland and the rivalry is insane.

Rangers are being very clever moving for Dowell, Butland and D.Sterling.

He needs replaced. Completely flat footed for that goal.

For the 1st goal, he should have palmed it towards the corner flag, not back out in to the danger zone. Ridiculous!

Very sore 1 to lose today, but we must ensure we properly strengthen in Summer.

People like this just need to get the feck over it tbh. Yes, it's a worse league than the one you're used to. That puts it in the same category as nearly 200 other leagues. It's fine to make that observation, but some people seem to get a perverse pleasure from hammering the point home.

You can still recognise ability in a player though regardless of what league they play in. The dutch league isn't the strongest in the world yet Utd raided that this past summer. I'm not sure Scottish football is as poor as you are making it out, it's only a year ago since Rangers lost Europa league final on penalties. You see clubs like Brighton raiding so called smaller leagues, such as the Ecuadorian league for players like Caicedo. Even Celtic in the past , Wanyama came from Beerscot in the Belgian league, Van Dijk came from Groningen. Talent is out there in these leagues, clubs just have to find it.

I am talking about presently. Presently, Scottish football is at its worst ever standard. There will be always be 1 or 2 players that play in Scotland that are good enough to play in a stronger league.

Regarding Rangers getting to a European final last season, the big game they won was Dortmund and Doetmund technical director described their performance over 2 legs as their worst ever. Rangers set up to counter attack and they rode a crest of a wave last season. This season, they got completely embarrassed in Europe. Play 6,got hammered in 6. Both Celtic and Rangers are really poor teams. When we had Larsson, Sutton, Agathe Moravcek, we were genuinely a good side. Those days are long gone. Sad because both club are genuinely huge clubs with ridiculously passionate fan bases.

Congrats to Kevin van Veen on equaling Mark Viduka's record of scoring in 10 consecutive SPL games, its quite suprising how that record has lasted 23 years given some of the strikers Celtic and Rangers have had in that time.

He’s a brilliant finisher, great at free kicks and cool from the spot.

He will have one final payday I believe as his age is definitely going against him but he’s been brilliant against every team including the Old Firm teams. A move to an English club, league one or championship I reckon.

There is every good reason to believe that Brendan Rodgers will be appointed as successor to Ange Postecoglou as manager.

Some will see this as a backwards step, a typical board reaction, and will not welcome “The Rat” back into the fold.

I see that possible appointment differently - and most importantly - a sign that there is a distinct learning curve in play at Celtic Park.

David Moyes senior once said “Son, the only thing guaranteed in football is disappointment” and that is true for young players, old players, coaches, managers, chairmen, owners and most of all fans.

The trick is to learn from any disappointments and make them infrequent and ultimately unimportant.

I believe DD and his satellites started to get the message that Ange was showing his knickers to other clubs so to speak several weeks ago.

Rather than wait and see, or gain an international award for dithering, as they have done in the past, the board, DD and Celtic started to take decisive action.

While Ange told the players he was definitely staying the jungle drums from elsewhere said his agent was speaking to Spurs.

DD and Bret Desmond appeared pretty quickly and put a new contract to him with some of the things you have seen on line.

Transfer budget agreed, new players targeted with discussions ongoing with agents, long overdue specialist facilities to be built at Lennoxtoun (the budget allowed for that is too low btw but once work has started this will be upped) and small stadium at Barrowfield etc.

All agreed but Ange started dragging feet and DD more or less said piss or get off the pot.

Celtic then started doing others things.

Note the re-emergence of Martin O’Neill in and around Celtic Park. O’Neill has no interest in getting back into football management but he has some business smarts, is a great communicator and has always retained a business connection with DD.

I believe he is currently (unofficially but officially if you get my drift) acting as Ambassador or Agent for Celtic and DD in footballing circles.

I understand he brokered a meeting between DD and Rodgers who met privately.

You will recall Rodgers appearing at the semi final v Rangers.

As mentioned on here he has always kept a house at Mugdock and as others reported he was there recently talking to contractors re renovations.

On Sunday night a business contact with fairly regular dealings with Celtic personnel told me that Brendan will be announced this week - with the smart money being on him returning with Chris Davis.

If John Kennedy moves Scott Brown may come in as part of the back room staff and Darren O’Dea moved up - as he is highly rated and well liked.

If Harry Kewell moves, as seems likely, a striker coach is to be found.

Some of the facilities at Lennoxtoun are of the kind requested by Rodgers 5 years ago but were stalled on by PL and discarded by Neil Lennon apparently.

But isn’t Rodgers a backwards step and what about his poor relationship with Lawwell?

Well maybe this is the most telling thing. Do you go backwards or forwards - and if going forward is the aim why would Rodgers be the right fit?

I believe Rodgers and Nicholson have a good relationship and always had so there is something to build on there which was more important than the issues with PL.

Add to that the fact that Celtic and DD in particular may well have Ben shown that their master plan thinking has to change from the days of PL being CEO.

The plan has to be more progressive, slightly more risky but at the same time incremental.

Could it be that DD prefers Rodgers as the devil you know in preference to others mentioned who don’t know SPFL but who are v good candidates?

The football and business plan is to ensure Scottish domination continues and an expanded financial gap between us and Rangers is achieved by regular progression in Europe preferably through CL, but if necessary in Europa league thus expanding Celtic’s profile across continents and media.

Australian, Asian and if possible USA merch markets to be improved bringing more revenue.

The new Manager needs to be appointed quickly and must be an attractive name to get targeted players to sign and to attract others of higher quality with the Ange plan to improve every position incrementally to be continued.

Rodgers can achieve that at least for a couple of years but perhaps the great lesson that Celtic PLC have learned is to expect the manager to change every three years or so but have Celtic ready to replace the outgoing incumbent with someone else who will build and build.

The scouting and development set up at Celtic is apparently years behind other clubs and where it should be. A report prepared two years ago highlighted the need to have more players come through the youth ranks to come into the first team. The success rate was not good enough - with not enough emphasis or money being spent on getting the best young talent early and getting them ready for first team football.

For example, Chris Davis saw Jeremy Frimpong play and 8 days later he was a Celtic player for buttons.

More money to be spent on researching young players who can be brought in from home and abroad and can then be nurtured, kept or sold two or three years down the line for greater player trading results.

That is the only way for Celtic to gain ground financially on mid tier teams from other European leagues.

I won’t start on the plans to really bring on the woman ‘s game as an additional source of revenue and drum up interest in the youth team so that they too are supported with young players getting used to playing in front of a crowd.

Hence the Barrowfield stadium plan.

All about incremental progression at every stage and in every facet of the business but with the primary target being to put the best possible team on the park and use all the clubs resources to achieve that at every turn - irrespective of who the manager might be.

We have been used to the idea that a figurehead - like Stein - runs the club, shapes the club, and defines the club.

Those days are gone.

In many ways the fans and their hunger shape the club and Celtic is big enough to be able to breathe it’s own air and define its own destiny in footballing terms if there is smart thinking in the boardroom - and yes it has to be modern and agile (as Ange said) and adaptable to personnel change - and that includes the manager - and chairmen and CEOs etc.

Brendan will fit the bill for a couple of years and if things go to plan the way they should Celtic will be in a different place again in 4 months and possibly in a position to go “further”.

What DD was looking at on the Hampden Pitch on Saturday was indeed the past, and you can always learn lessons from the past.

But it is the future that counts and Celtic must always plan for the future because one day that future will simply be a past from which you must move on from and strive for better.

In this regard Ange was right - we never stop - for anyone!

Brendan would be my first choice, Won us everything, we got 9 million for him, wouldn’t have to pay club for him, went for the money, aye, but what’s Ange doing different? No brainer for me if he wanted it 100%

Celtic fans remind me of a pal of mine.

He’s a real weird guy. His mrs left him for another guy and it devastated him. She was a rat to him and someone he’d never speak to again. Her new man dumped her and she went crawling back to my mate and he accepted her with open arms.

Exactly how Celtic are with Rodgers. Zero pride and desperate.

Last time Celtic took a gamble on a relatively unknown manager they got a big win with Ange.
Rumour has it that they are talking to a guy called Des Buckingham, current manager of an Indian team in Mumbai.
Take the gamble again Celtic, this guy is a fantastic coach. I watched him here in NZ and his style of football etc will fit perfectly.
He is as good as Ange.

Would you trust him though especially after the way he left you guys the last time midway through your season? What’s to say he wouldn’t rule out doing it again if another management opportunity down south came up that he fancied? You’ll just end up back at square one again and looking like a complete idiot who’s taken back an ex and she’s ended up dumping him again the same way as the first time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you end up taking another gamble on a manager unknown like yous did with Ange.

It sounds like a fake football manager name.

Very generic sounding.

Had to Google him as I have never heard of him before. Seems very left field but so was Ange.

We made the massive mistake of not appointing him as manager of our National Team because we thought we were going to get John Herdman the Canadian coach.
He was in charge of our U20 side and produced our best ever results and best style of football at an age group olympics.
Yes completely out of left field with no big name pedigree. Ive seen him working up close, also know some of our National team players and they all rave about him.
I doubt Celtic would go that far off the beaten track but pop his name in your memory bank for the coming years.

I'm not saying you're wrong here but I work with a lot of Celtic fans and I don't think there are any who want him back. I think most fans would back his return - as you say, he was very successful - but I don't think it would take much in the way of poor results for the mood to turn.

Agreed, it won't take much for mood to turn, 1st Rangers game is at Ibrox. Crucial he gets at least a point otherwise knives will be out.
