Sekou Kone | Loaned to Lausanne for 26/27

thanks, was really looking forward to see him in the first team this year as back up to Ugarte and Casemiro
Ditto, fingers crossed. That was a really unfortunate injury. We seem to have bad luck like that.

From a quality standpoint, is Kone close to good enough to get minutes ahead of our four midfielders currently in the squad? Most, if not all of our senior midfielders will be gone from the club in the next 18 months so some continuity in the squat would be great during this transition.

There is nothing I have seen from him that indicates that he is anywhere near the first-team. Talented sure - but he is far from Ugarte and Mainoo - and they haven't been good enough. And with the limited amount of games we will play this season - he won't feature unless we get a serious injury-crisis. Better to let him get gametime on loan - and see how he copes

Its difficult to assess how much of the talent from the youth level translates to senior football so you're skepticism is warranted.

But he does look like he has somethings going for him. Technical ability, passing and combativeness. I would like to see him become stronger and bulk up.

My expectations are not that he will come in and claim a first team spot. But hopefully, can develop as a first or second change backup in the next 2-3 years. We probably have to spend best part of 150m on two new CMs so its good if we can find the backups from within.

Agreed. His profile is exactly what we are missing in midfield. Just a shame that he’s injured, else he’d probably have had good chances to try to win a place in the first team.

In a 2 man midfield alongside Bruno? Yikes, talk about a baptism by fire

It’s almost 2 months since the head injury. It must be a little more serious than 1st thought. Hopefully we will see him soon

He wasn’t given a single minute in pre-season, he isn’t going to get any in the Premier League.

He isn’t ready anyway and needs a loan. Even at u21s level he’s extremely loose with the ball, constant heavy touches in dangerous areas. It is how he got injured twice last season. The type of stuff that people lose their shit over when Ugarte or Bruno do it. He’d be written off and abused within 1 appearance. He should have went on loan although the eye injury is unfortunate because the EFL Trophy & NL Cup are great experiences. Although, honestly not sure he’d get in the starting XI for the u21s right now as it is a stacked group. He’s got talent but very raw.

Thats the first objective for him. He is way too light-weight to be playing in the middle of the park. But I love his composure. Not sure if you can teach that. He always seems to have time on the ball.

It takes about 2 months for a orbital fracture, so we might see him post int break or more likely next month.

Saw some news that he is back in solo training around a month back. They are probably just being cautious and letting the fracture fully heal before he is back on the field.

Hope he recovers fully too without any lingering term issues. Being registered partially sighted myself, it sucks. Luckily I can still read absolutely fine.

I imagine the only residual issue will be psychological.

I hope he can get and stay fit. I see him as a long term replacement for Ugarte/Casemiro

I don't think he's the dirty work defensive player for that kind of responsibility. He is adequate at it, but perhaps not physically right for English football yet, but his ball progression is his strength so long term I see him as the other role in the midfield 2

Not in full contact training yet, but they expect him to be close to returning after the international break.

He needs a few months of regular game time and training. Maybe laussane is a good option for him, Brighton have done it with caicedo and yalcoue sending em on loans, think iirc mitoma was loaned as well. He needs to be on the pitch all the time, considering time he lost.

He was due to go to Lusanne on loan in summer but Amorim vetoed it.
