Sekou Kone

Looked VERY good tonight- he can’t be far off a first team shot as he has all the attributes we are currently lacking

If it's between giving Kone some minutes or bringing in someone like Neves then I'd rather we go with Kone.
Hope he starts making the bench soon.

Needs a loan to test himself in Men's football. Hope he gets a good one, Nice /laussane should be looking at him. Needs a clean 6 months of game time and he ll come back ready.

If Mainoo goes on loan, I would not be suprised to see him playing with the first team quite often quite soon.

Starting to look like a really all-round package. He's gained so much pace and acceleration over the last six months and it makes all the difference; now when he body swerves a man he also has the legs to step cleanly past them. And he just seems to be able to get first to a loose ball a lot of the time. Not sure if his pace would stand out as much against grown men but it'll be interesting to see.

He couldn't have a clearer path to the first team, given probably our entire midfield will need replacing over the next season and a half. I hope we see him blooded this season, even just for a few minutes here or there.

Always looks like he knows who is going to pass to even before receiving the ball. Reminds me of scholes in that aspect

La La Land. No he certainly will not play quite often.
If Mainoo goes on loan, then on midfield we have Casemiro, Ugarte and Bruno, with the three of them with high chances of leaving. Also, Kone feels a better fit for the system than Mainoo.

Million miles away from being good enough for the seniors.

For me he's always been one of those players who looks great in highlights but doesn't show it throughout. I think he'd benefit from a championship loan rather than trying to force him into the first team too soon.

Don't really know why you explain the alternatives. How many games have Ugarte or Mainoo played? And you think Kone will play? I said it earlier here and people tried to argue with me... he won't play. Read the room.

I cant see anything in Kone that indicates that he will be good enough for the Senior squad, some posters on this form hype players without every seeing them play.
The most likely player to make the breakthrough as a cdm is Devanney based on his performances so far this season.
Kone needs to go on loan as get games at adult football if hes ever to progress.

Kone was exceptional for the U21’s last time out, so im questioning whether you yourself are commenting without watching him play? Also in my opinion he is a far bigger prospect that Devaney who will probably end up at some league one club.

Surely he can't be worse than Ugarte?

Give him a run out in the next few games.

Yes I saw the game where he made a few interceptions against an very young team. It seems Kone reputation has grown by not playing. Keep hyping these kids and they will never get there.
Devanney has played well this season and has shown far more potential than Kone. Probably wont make it but has current prospects are higher.

I think his technique and vision are good enough for him to be a first team player. I am just uncertain that his physicality will translate well in the senior game. But we should give him half an hour at least to see how he does

Devaney’s potential is well below Kone’s. Still think he’ll have a decent career though. Kone’s athleticism, vision, passing range is all vastly superior in my view and I’m pretty certain he will play for Uniteds first team before Devaney (who I doubt will play any minutes at all)

The only reason you think Devaney's potential is well below Kone is cause Kone is recent signing from abroad, and Devaney is kid that is here for a long time. Kone is more than year older and without any serious experience even in the youth football. Yes, he has solid potential, but it is unproven even at youth level in England. And he is almost 20 years old. Nothing so far I have seen in our reserve games showed that he is so above that level and ready for PL, like you could obviously see that when Mainoo played for reserves for example. This is nothing bad, he will probably need more time, probably loan somewhere to develop more and get more experience, but he is really not even close to be PL ready.

On the other hand, neither is Devaney at the moment, but this season he made big step up and is probably or best defensive minded player in the Academy. His body is solid, he is pretty good, and he did not put a foot wrong the whole season, even playing as CB at some games. At this moment, I would be more calm with Devaney at DM in PL game. Who knows how will they develop, both are League One players at the moment.

If he’s good enough, he will be making the first team matchday squad soon. From the limited I’ve seen of him, I think the PL will swallow him up and spit him out. He needs a good loan next season.

Not close to the first team. We already know they have a pattern in how they introduce youth prospects. He hasn't even practiced with the first team long enough to make a debut.

1. Train with 1st team for at least a few weeks to up to multiple months

2. Make the bench for a couple of games but not play

3. Make debut for a handful of mins

Kone doesn't even look physically ready to be a CDM right now, he looks more like a deep 8. He needs to get stronger because he's still too skinny. I agree on Devaney though I think he's closer vs Kone because his body is closer to senior football

Interesting to see the different opinions. Wolves + Leeds could be a good opportunity for a youngster to make the bench

Wouldn't mind him getting minutes against those two. Probably physically more ready than Fletcher and Lacey as well, basing that on nothing else than height hehe.

Based on the fact that he hasn’t been deemed ready for first team minutes yet, I’d say he’s safely less ready than them physically.

Seriously?? Fletcher looked like he was 15 years old? Both in body size and height.
Assume you’ve never seen any of them play.

The Fletchers are both 6 feet, don’t remotely look 15 (unless you think the majority of the world looks 15?) and are often one of the tallest players on the pitch at underage level. Kone is lucky to be about 5’9.

He has been out injured for almost 3 months with a neck injury - there is no way United will take any chances with him after that.

So what you’re saying is that physically he’s less ready?
