Sekou Kone

If it were Nice maybe, but Lausanne? I thought he was on the fringes of our first team so thought the championship or ligue 1 would have been more suited.
A bit sad about this one, hope he plays regularly and does well though.
What he needs is guaranteed minutes not competition for places like at a Nice. The move makes sense

I'm hoping he or Devaney will save us having to replace Ugarte with cash in the summer. If they can develop on loan.
I rate both players and I too hope that we have enough games next season where we can give time to a young player/create room in the squad. Especially with the potential midfield movement.

Just to clarify, when I say he should be the 3rd, I mean the 3rd to join the squad. In reality, with Mainoo already there, he’d be the 4th choice - which I think is reasonable for a 20 year old that we believe in. If we want to bring in 3 and have him as 5th choice - then at 20, I don’t think that is good enough for him and he should probably go somewhere else. 20 is plenty old enough to play football, and while not fully ready - I think a 20 year old that a club believes in is certainly old enough to be 4th choice at least.

If we get European football, we probably need 5 CM, no? Although 4th and 5th for example could be Collyer and Kone. Casemiro at lower wages would have been perfect 4th CM.

It depends on the rest of the squad. 4 cms for 2 positions is fine to me, if you then have players like Martinez, Bruno, perhaps Heaven (his youth team role and one many feel is his long term role) who can play there. Martinez was excellent there at Villa Park, and Bruno has played the last 12 months in there.

With Kone as 4th choice, one injury or rotation at best only puts him on the bench. There are different levels of young players. I think if a team loses 3 or 4 players, they may thrust a 17 year old into play. I think Kone should be slightly above that level of circumstance by next season. More in the Myles Lewis-Skelly/Ethan Nwaneri bracket whre they are actually seen as part of the squad, rather than the ‘everyone’s injured, what do we have in the youth team?’ level. We can still look for a player like that AFTER the players including Kone are injured, then a player like Tyler Fletcher can get drafted in. But Koné, after half a season hopefully playing regularly in a European league should hope to be a genuine option I think. You want him to actually play as a 20 year old. You don’t want him to come back to be in the Tyler Fletcher bracket with several seniors ahead of him.

He looks like a really interesting all round midfielder and genuinely press resistant. Let’s see how he gets on out there. He should be standing out at this level of football if he’s going to do anything here next season and then see how he does on tour. I think he’s a cert to make it in senior football but I wouldn’t be against loaning him out next season either if it’s a good loan. There’s no huge rush if he’s clearly improving.

I really like the look of Moorhouse too, I think he’s very talented and it’ll be interesting to see how he does physically next year. Same as Kone really in that respect.
What do you mean by "genuinely press resistant "
Are you saying he is never going to cough up possession when put under pressure?
And what is the difference between press resistant and genuinely press resistant?

I asked AI for you. Ali Dia is reassuring that he's verified Kone actually lasts longer.

Press-resistant

  • Claims some level of resistance to pressure
  • Often unspecified or marketing-level
  • May hold up under normal or expected pressure, but not extremes
  • Can be situational (“press-resistant under typical use”)

Genuinely press-resistant

  • Emphasizes authentic, proven resistance
  • Implies tested, verified, or real-world durability
  • Suggests resistance under high, sustained, or unexpected pressure
  • Pushes back against skepticism or exaggeration (“not just claimed—actually is”)

Key distinction

  • Press-resistant = the label
  • Genuinely press-resistant = the reassurance

Despite their excitement at the deal, he was an unused sub today against St.Gallen. Hopefully he is in the team quickly.

Laussane are having a shit run of form, they are in the relegation playoffs zone. They havent given time to Enzo kana biyik as well (even though he looks very raw) . Laussane signed omar janneh (at madrid) who i think will get a lot of game time. They have another 9 games + 5 (either in relegation or championship playoffs) so hopefully both get some good game time.

doesnt get off the bench in second game. Laussane were 3-2 up with a man advantage and fecked up 3-3 with a red card of their own.

Lausanne midfielder was the man sent off, let's see if Kone gets selected for the next game. The loan doesn't appear to be going too well so far, let's hope he can make his mark soon.

He's not even been there two weeks. It's a weird loan though as it doesn't look like they have a lot of games left.

I think the Swiss league is one of those that splits into halves and plays extra games, like the Scottish league, so they'll have more games left than what's currently listed.

They're still in the Conference League as well.

Ah, sound. I just browsed the fixtures and thought that was it. Hopefully he has time to bed in and get some serious minutes then.

I thought he was over in Switzerland, training with them before he actually started the loan, or perhaps I dreamt it?

He hasnt been included in their conference league squad is what i have read,

Read the same on twitter.

Loan deals, eh. They sound great in theory but getting them right is tricky.

This should have been one of the simpler ones, given they've got the same owners. I've no idea how it wasn't clarified that they fancied using him or not.

Hes just not ready for men's football imo. The setback with the eye injury hasn't helped this season

Surely there's more to it than simply he's just not ready. We wouldn't have sent him there if they weren't planning to use him, if we have joined up recruitment at all? Maybe he didn't settle. It's not the end of the world but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't slightly worrying if he can't get a game at that level one way or another.

Ah I see he can still play in the domestic league.

It doesn't seem like the striker we have on loan there is doing much either. He's getting games but only has one goal so far

Concerns over Kone

When Sekou Kone’s loan move to Ineos-owned Lausanne-Sport was confirmed, the noise from staff at the club was overwhelmingly positive about the midfielder’s physical capabilities in his first few training sessions, as detailed in last week’s column.

However, that positivity has been undermined by Kone being denied a spot in the Swiss side’s Conference League squad.

Lausanne could add three new players to their squad following the January window, but they chose not to add Kone, who has been given just 10 minutes of action through three games, coming off the bench in a 5-1 defeat by FC Thun.

The ability to compete in the Conference League was one of the things about the Lausanne loan that appealed to academy staff at United, a move which had originally been planned for last summer before a late U-turn.

With that opportunity no longer available, pay close attention to the 20-year-old’s progress for the remainder of the campaign.

Confidential reached out to Lausanne-Sport for clarification on the player’s Conference League omission, but United sources are still hopeful the loan can be beneficial to the Mali midfielder’s development. A head scratcher, that’s for sure.

Enzo kana isnt getting many games now, they signed that striker from spain , who was highly rated at atleti, he has been getting decent game time and scored a couple of goals already.

Hopefully there is an option to recall him. Granted I havent seen Laussane level, I highly doubt he would not improve them.
Normally if a player would improve a team and he was eligible to play for them it would make good sense for him to play.

Nope. We cant recall and play him.

Says who? Usually there's a fee for breaking these contracts but given the ownership that seems irrelevant.

Only question is if he's better there despite little game time or coming back and playing with the reserves. I'd suggest he's probably better staying there as it'll at least build character.

Can't recall outside the transfer window

Can't recall outside the transfer window

My understanding is you can't register outside of the transfer window, contracts can be cancelled whenever. As he'd be going back into our youth teams then it shouldn't be an issue.

Could be wrong.

Nah under FIFA rules it needs to be done within a registration window which is transfer window for both us and in Switzerland. Only exemptions are short term loans (1-3 months)

Seems like many are jumping to conclusions based on a very small sample size.

Kone will learn a lot from training week in week out with the first team, preparing for games, getting minutes off the bench in a competitive league and hopefully getting a run of starts. Many players have it easy in the youth system and find the transition to first team football very hard, it's often the first time they have not been picked for games and need to have the right mentality to force their way into the team. Amad has credited the "unsuccessful" loans he had to making a big difference in his approach and said he learned a lot, hopefully Kone can do the same.

On the other hand it is odd that he's been omitted from the European squad given he's been training with them prior to getting the loan move and it would appear it was all agreed upfront. It just shows the multi club model under INEOS is not working as smoothly as we would like. Ideally we can have 2-3 players at Lausanne and another 2-3 at Nice each season gaining valuable minutes. Time will tell!
