£18m for peace of mind - just does his job consistently well. Bargain.
Yeah I didn’t even see the game but from the highlights whatever shots/crosses he faced he seemed to collect them competently enough. It’s so nice to have a keeper that does the basics well enough.Such a boring player...LOVE IT!![]()
You can see the opposition leave him alone (don’t target him - like they did with Onana and Bayindir) as well, both from a pressing perspective and on set pieces.Im enjoying the fact that our players aren't a bag of nerves every time the balls drops back into our final third.
One less problem for the team to deal with. lets us focus on fixing other things.. The players can rest a bit easier knowing the keeper isnt going to do something mental if you play it back to him.
100% Onana would have glanced that into the goal off his glovesThought the shot in first half which came with pace and power through the crowded defence in front of him which he palmed down and claimed calmly was a fantastic save. Onana would have dropped a clanger there for sure.
Was literally thinking the same thing in this passage of play. Onana used to make things happen by turning normal goalkeeping situations into complete fecking calamities.Thought the shot in first half which came with pace and power through the crowded defence in front of him which he palmed down and claimed calmly was a fantastic save. Onana would have dropped a clanger there for sure.

Van der Gouw was never a shit keeper. Just worse than Schmeichel (but many were)He could be van der sar or van der gouw.
I never said he was. I said van der sar (top tier) or van der gouw (solid pro) who could always be reliable when called upon.Van der Gouw was never a shit keeper. Just worse than Schmeichel (but many were)
CorrectI don’t think the poster was implying VdG was crap. Saying, that VdS to VdG is his potential range, and at the worst, he would be a terrific No 2 - which is what VdG was.
Ok, fair enough. Chances are he will be even better than VdG.I never said he was. I said van der sar (top tier) or van der gouw (solid pro) who could always be reliable when called upon.
Fingers crossedOk, fair enough. Chances are he will be even better than VdG.
Why are people predicting what Onana would do? The uniqueness of his buffoonery is that he deals in the inexplicable. His ability to chuck one in out of absolutely nowhere is almost unparalleled.Or straight into a danger area, likely straight at a Palace player.
Same. Reminds me of Courtois, dull as dishwater and nothing fancy. You can see the opposition leave him alone (don’t target him - like they did with Onana and Bayindir) as well, both from a pressing perspective and on set pieces.
I like his boringness.
For National Teams I sympathize with, it’s a pro having a colourful keeper like Rene Higuita or Andre Onana. For my own bread and butter team, it’s such a relief having a Van der Sar or a Van der Gouw. You can see the opposition leave him alone (don’t target him - like they did with Onana and Bayindir) as well, both from a pressing perspective and on set pieces.

Exactly. Van der Gouw and Romero was maybe our best second goalkeepers since I started watching in 1980, it’s not a total coincidence that Schmeichel and De Gea was two of the best keepers in the world with them in the team. Solid second keepers do mattet, both as security, as competition and as a training partner on the training ground. If Lammens can equal either of his linguistic cousins, it would be a big plus for United. For the price we paid even if he ends up at second choice, hes solid ,reliable and likeable. He could be van der sar or van der gouw. Even at that it would be fine. Very happy with purchase. Showing good signs.
So far so good. Think he maybe could've done better on couple of occassions (Welbeck's free kick, Everton's goal) but other than that it's been good.
This is a fair point but there's nothing that's stood out about Lammens so far. He's alright. But alright = far better than Bayindir or Onana. If we have a keeper whose 'mistakes' are "could do better" I'll be happy. I prefer that to "couldn't have done worse".
I do agree. De Gea of last few seasons and then Onana - it's been tough. If we have a keeper whose 'mistakes' are "could do better" I'll be happy. I prefer that to "couldn't have done worse".
Didn't De Gea keep the most clean sheets in his last season?I do agree. De Gea of last few seasons and then Onana - it's been tough.
Yeah, I noticed that too. How on Earth was he so far away when the ball came to Magassa?I feel like he had no chance for the Bowen flicked header but by the time Mazraoui clears it off the line he should be racing back across goal and in a decent position to try and save that Magassa goal. He's still at the front post nowhere near it

That's very harsh. You may as well say Mazraoui should have stood up in that time.I feel like he had no chance for the Bowen flicked header but by the time Mazraoui clears it off the line he should be racing back across goal and in a decent position to try and save that Magassa goal. He got pushed by Wilson, I think that's who it was anyway. He knew he was too far away from it to dive and Magassa literally put it in the corner. Think it's a harsh one to judge him for.I feel like he had no chance for the Bowen flicked header but by the time Mazraoui clears it off the line he should be racing back across goal and in a decent position to try and save that Magassa goal. Ridiculous to criticise him for that goal.
The ball literally arrived on the near post... Have people here ever payed football before? How he's being questioned for the goal is genuinely bafflingHis positioning on the goal was poor, he was glued to his near post as the ball came in and gave himself no chance of getting accross to save the shot that went in
AgreedAmad is escaping a lot of the heat there.
Criminal defending from him.
