Yeah I expect him to get quite a lot of minutes this season with all the cups and Europe. Could be a massive year for him if he gets a goal early and builds some hype. I'd imagine the picture around him would have looked fairly different if that strike against Burnley had gone in. Fine margins!

Unless it'll be like the latter half of the season where the nepo Fletchers get the bench spots and Lacey is back in the U21s

Hahahaha is this a generational thing with the Fletcher family? Remember back in day everybody saying Darren must be Fergie's son cause he was just neat and tidy for the first few seasons... but then he became a beast to be fair to him

The gift that keeps on giving.

Hopefully he’ll get the chance to be around the first team more this season and pick up a few minutes here and there. He’s got obvious talent and could become a key player for us in the future.

He was a breath of fresh air during his cameos under Fletcher. I was disappointed we didn't see more of him after his red card in the FA Cup. Hopefully he'll get more minutes in the cups and off the bench. He is the type of winger I love: a direct dribbler who has a long-distance screamer in his locker.

He isn't a direct dribbler at all. He clearly lacks the pace to go 1v1 and usually pulls out of potential duels to pass back or sideways. He looks neat on the ball, but his effectiveness in terms of doing something with it leaves serious question marks.

I'm not sold on him at all, mostly because I don't see a winger in him and he doesn't suit any other role either. His biggest strength is keeping the ball wide and progressing it. That's why I Made Antony comparison in the past, but I don't mean this in a bad way. He can still be an useful player, just not for the Antony money and wages.

I would also look at him differently if we had more that one direct winger in the squad, while on the right wing we have 2 inverted indirect and not too pacey wingers like Lacey already.

I only have the Burnley and Brighton games to go off, as I didn't watch him at academy level, but in those cameos he injected some much needed urgency to our attacks. At a time where we were low on confidence under Fletcher, Lacey's first thought was to progress the ball into the final third and manufacture a shot or cross: that is direct in my book. If you've watched more of him then I'll concede that you know what you're talking about.

I know what you mean from deeper positions, he's not worrying anyone from there.

But in and around the area he will be hard work for defenders. He's very good at the stop start thing.

Same strenghths and weaknesses as Amad really.

I have seen him also just a few times, including some academy games. My opinion might also not be based on representative sample, but I don't think he is direct at all.

Yes exactly. He is also quite good defensively I thought. He is tiny though and as long as defenders keep him wide or out of the box, he's not much of a threat.

As we have Amad AND Mbuemo, I don't see Lacey getting much playing time. I also think he could benefit from a loan. Like I said before, he does everything a bit too slow.

Lacey is quite decent for a player who would add depth to the squad, but he'll never usurp Mbeumo as an automatic starter. If we were within touching distance of the PL/CL double I'd cut Lacey loose and go for that player who gets us that much closer to the glorious double, but that's not where we are as a football club right now.

He might not get a lot of starts, but if Mbuemo and Amad can help us put fodder clubs down early enough in the second half, we can bring Lacey on to mop things up.

For this level I don't think his fitness it up to speed yet and is possibly causing that. Just pre season he looks like he's blowing to me.

That'll come and I guess we'll know then if he can do things quicker.

But I think he's talented enough to persist with.

I feel best path for these young players is almost always going to be loan deals until they're ready. Most of them aren't ready for the physicality of the PL coming out of the academy and their opportunities are limited here as we should always realistically have 2 senior players in their position.

Yeah, let him get a season scoring goals in the Championship like Amad at Sunderland and then we'll see what we have.

Was going to post about his similarities to Antony before I saw your post.

I also agree it’s not a negative per se, but you can see the limitations, and also the areas it which he can be productive (cutting in on his left). I hope he has the dedication to become a more well rounded player.

Every young player doesn’t need to be a superstar. We need good players coming through the academy who can contribute and hold their own. This lad has potential to do that.

He reminds me of Foden.

If he became a Foden but who didn't have the fire coached out of him then that would be a real asset to use for many years to come. My main concern with him is whether he can stay fit and out of trouble really, he's handsome long spells put as he's been growing and he doesn't have enough pace to be losing it so hopefully as he fills out into his frame he'll become a bit more durable.

Said in the match thread - he looks a talent. I just think he has a selfish streak that could do with being coached out of him and make him more of a team player.

He's trying to impress to win a first team spot, I think it's pretty normal for a lad in his situation.

For sure, its understandable. It will just be interesting to see if he now has the maturity for the senior team.

Just hope he's not another selfish kid who is full of himself. If he's able to be a team player who makes good decisions he'll be excellent

Big talent. Hope he stays with the first team and has chances off the bench. It was obvious last season in that Burnley game that he can be dangerous.

I think he’ll have learnt a lot from that Brighton mishap.

Really like this kid. And i like that he has a bit of arrogance about him
