Shea Lacey | 2026/27 Performances

Solid overall. Probably the most impressive so far of the youth system kids.

Love him. Especially as a 10, he gives us something different.

So intelligent, quick feet but even quicker mind. I think he'll combine so well with Bruno, Amad, Mount and Cunha. Great to have a bit of old fashioned scouse bite back in the team with a couple of tackles today too

He looks the same height as Mbeumo
I think he's actually just a little shorter, but he doesn't have Mbeumo's body. I'm against loaning him to the Championship. There they won't look out for his body enough

A lifelong United fan who grew up in Merseyside with Liverpool supporting brothers. That couldn't have been easy for him at school!

Perhaps shorter by the slightest margin, but he isn't what some public has suggested being excessively small. He's definitely on the thin side, but that will come with time.

All in all, very excited with what's to come.

Fantastic player to have in tight games where you are pushing for a breakthrough. Such a talent

I suppose the question is whether to loan him or keep him in and around it. Mount has looked good at CM but I still think we need another, taller and more defensively robust CM. So Mount would be back up to Fernandes. Mbeumo and Amad are ahead of Lacey on the right flank. He could go off for a year at a top Championship team and come back either ready to compete or with his value elevated for a sale.

We’ll hopefully be playing a lot of football this season. He’ll start in the league cup, he’ll start in the early stage FA Cup, he’ll play in the lower side CL group stage games. He’ll come on in premier league games where we need a bit of a spark. One of Mbeumo or Amad will be injured at points. Mount will definitely be injured at some point.

Whose PSG's Tall and more robust midfielder by the way?

I remember hearing that Carrick in an Interview particularly commented on PSG's midfield & they lack everything we supposedly need in a 6.

They've beaten most teams in the CL they face without having anyone one of these players.

Do we need one purely due to us playing in the PL. If Santos was taller he has all the attributes to be a 6; I don't think we need to buy a player just for more height when our defenders provide enough of that.

Mount can be that energetic 8, Mainoo as a ball progressing 8, Tielemans as a passing 8 & Santos as a ball winning 8. Lacey can be back up to Bruno & Amad because I'm happy with Mbeumo as our 2nd striker.

Yeah you’re probably right. He definitely has something about him and has some X factor to change games. I tend to prefer good loans for promising players not quite in our plans but loans have typically gone so badly for us.

2nd and 4th pic, how much bigger do you want him to become?

He has gained a lot of muscle in recent years.

People on redcafe get fixated on muscle size and bulk, which is understandable if they don't know anything about strength and conditioning training, but if I were to impress one thing, it's that you can train in such a way for power and strength that minimises the amount of lean muscle you add and maximises the strength you gain, so quite often someone not "bulking" up doesn't tell a full story.

Fantastic young talent that if he can stay healthy I could see him playing quite often with the first team this season

This is a good point but the PL is more physical than Ligue 1 and they have a phenomenal balance and passing superiority that does sort of mitigate the need. Fabian Ruiz is 6’2 and Zaire-Emery is one of the hardest working players in Europe.

You might be right in that we’re fine as is. I do like our current setup. I don’t even feel a starting DM is necessary. But someone like a Berge to have as an option makes sense if the fee is decent.

He can look after himself too can’t he? Would be amazing if he and amir could make it

It's not really bulking up, it's understanding the physicality of the senior game and learning how to anticipate contact, ride tackles and so on. I don't see it as a particular area of concern...if there was one attribute I wish he had more of it would be pace, but he looks like developing into a (type not quality of) Foden, young Mata, Cazorla.

He’s very sharp and purposeful in his actions. Reminds me a bit of an older Rooney in that sense. Not the same pace or burst but sharp nonetheless.

I can't pinpoint exactly what the similarity is but you're right he does have a bit of Rooney in his movement. Like a low centre of gravity pivot and shift.

Fabian Ruiz

Definitely ready for more first team football. He looked it last season too but barely got a kick after the red card vs Brighton in the cup. Might've been that the injury came at an unfortunate time for him, Carrick has given him a good amount of minutes in pre-season.

He’s going to be some player I think in a year or so, keep him in the squad this season and give him as many minutes as possible.

We sometimes get a little obsessive over height and physicality. In Lacey's position it isn't particularly important and it is going to help to have players who can change direction and turn fast.

I'm pleased we've added more muscle but you still need technical players.

He's hugely talented.

If he was coming through at a mid table Bundesliga club then Real Madrid would be trying to buy him for 120m in a year

Lovely right-footed cross. That's a great weapon to have for him if he ends up at RW.

Pressed hard, too.

Arsenal got 8 front 3 players (not counting Eze, putting him as Odegaard's backup) 13+ appearances and 7 guys 24 or more, so if he's our 7th attacker (assuming Zirkzee is replaced with a #9, or I guess he stays, and Dorgu is at LW as that seems to be the plan) he can still get a pretty optimal season of 25+ appearances with them being mostly off the bench, which at 19 is probably all you want him to do anyways.

Might help us actually win some cup games too.
