Shea Lacey | 2026/27 Performances

Definitely ready for more first team football. He looked it last season too but barely got a kick after the red card vs Brighton in the cup. Might've been that the injury came at an unfortunate time for him, Carrick has given him a good amount of minutes in pre-season.
I’ve mentioned it before, but I suspect the reason he barely featured after the injury was because the club wanted to avoid any media attention on him after his brother was charged with attempted murder.

Lacey is a boxer (2nd sport) so he's a tough kid
Didn’t know that! Boxing is a great second sport for a young footballer with technical ability. He’ll not be afraid to get stuck in then, and know how to anticipate and approach physical duals to make the most of his agility. Very encouraging

What the feck

His impact reminds me a bit like Garnacho but sacrificing a little bit of pace for much better dribbling, the type of player you want against low-block opposition.

To contribute to the comparison confusion I’m reminded of David Silva when he was at Valencia. Both not the quickest but got quick feet and can dribble well into space and the half turn. Both clever and played wide and in the number 10 role. Finally the ability to finish with curled shots into the corner and the set piece skills in general really.

Seems like he’s ready to step up. I can see it with him unlike the Fletcher twins.

A loan to the championship or lower prem could also be useful n since rw kinda loaded.

In terms of talent he's a better footballer than Mbeumo.

Right now he might be third choice RW but not sure it'll stay like that for long.

Needs to take all of Zirkzee’s minutes. At least he has spark and unpredictably.

But Carrick has been smart and used him as a 10. He’s not letting Mbuemo and Amad stop him from getting minutes. Obviously Bruno will be our 10 and undroppable but it’s a very exciting option of the bench.

Yeah in pre season but as you say with no Bruno. Once the season starts Mount will also be in contention for that 10 spot(as well as a CM spot).

He'll generally be competing with Amad and Mbeumo but I don't think he's as far down the pecking order as it may seem.

TBH, I think he may perform better as a 10 than a RW. (at least until he develops more physically)

In the prem, an RW lacking pace I think is more of a problem than a 10.
As a 10, it's easier in some ways to turn both ways and use quick feet to slide through a through ball. On the wings, if the RB doesn't help to create space by over/underlapping, then pace/strength is more important than just quick feet since the fullback has more chance to get back before a cross.

For sure, but Bruno is going to play most weeks so clearly RW will be bigger chance for him to play

One more good performance and he probably starts vs Hull.
Ye it will be difficult for Carrick to not involve him a lot next season if he performs against PSG. The only issue is… where does he play? Carrick seems to be developing him as a 10 which is obviously where Bruno will play all the time.

Exactly. He and Amad together against low blocks are going to cause havoc. It's why I think we need one of them to play left wing.

Think he’s forced himself into a first team option. We won’t sign another forward.

I imagine we go into the season, and play 3 from Sesko, Cunha, Mbeumo, Amad, Dorgu & Lacey.

Unsure Rashford stays - if he does Lacey might get loaned as it’d hurt his minutes.

Instead of who? Because I dont see him getting in ahead of Bruno or Amad, which is who you'd expect him to be competing with.

Hopefully means he'll be trusted more though. Definitely wanna see more.

From being a promising talent to a legit potential first team squad option is remarkable progress and a testament to his game.

Rashford plays from the left as a backup, maybe a backup striker, Lacey will feature from the right or as a 10, so I think Lacey should be fine for his debut season minutes.

As for this game showed again he can receive the pass under pressure quickly turn and deliver a pass, shame the game went toshit when Flecthers went to the pitch and PSG sent on their best midfield.

He'll do some damage off the bench this season. It's going to be his big breakthrough. Feels inevitable. He's a good player this lad

Yep, that’s my feeling too. We’ll have enough cup games this season for him to get plenty of minutes.

I hope you're right but I still think he'll rarely be seen unless we have a bunch of injuries. Bruno, Cunha, Amad, Mbuemo for the #10 and RW. Throw Mount in there too and maybe even JJ (optimistic). A few cameos maybe.

Cup runs will help of course.

We need to move Dorgu to LB
I cant understand Carrick's stubbornness, he had to at least to try him as a LB during this pre-season.

It's not stubbornness, Carrick simply doesn't see him as a LB, has never played him as a LB and likely never will play him as a LB, so no, he didn't have to try him as a LB as it would have been redundant.

Also, Dorgu would be a terrible LB.

Glad to see him get a lot of involvement in preseason because I felt we underutilised him toward the end of the season

He's our fastest winger (Other than Rashford) and had good end product playing as a winger for Carrick last season. He'll probably be important to how Carrick wants to play

Are you mentioning JJ as someone who might take minutes from Lacey?

Lacey is so far ahead of JJ at this stage, it's not even a conversation.
I know you caveated it with "optimistic", but it's a lot more optimistic expecting JJ to play than it is expecting Lacey to play. Hope he stays fit.

He'll get minutes. Last season we had so little coming off the bench even with a light schedule. I can see him getting minutes at RW and 10 - coming on for Bruno or Amad as a second half sub if we're cruising or need some fresh impetus, as well as starting domestic cup games.

Maybe he's tried him there in training and didn't like him there. A lot of match day decisions which confuse fans are determined by the many things that happen in training that we're never privy to.

Wait until his brace against Leeds on Wednesday..

Only mentioned JJ because you never know with young talents like that. Plus maybe we'll give him minutes as a tactic with his contract.

He's too young - and not the kind of "young but in a man's body" situation. He genuinely looks small and needs a lot more physical development to be able to make a meaningful impact at the senior level.

For his own sake, Leeds is definitely not the game where I'd want to be handing him token minutes.

Seems like he’s a first team player and I’m delighted with that. Another forward player and option who can make an impact. Look forward to seeing him more next season!

I'd be amazed if he even gets minutes against Leeds. Lacey will play plenty this season. JJ might get a few run outs in the domestic cups.

Carricks already said he likes Dorgu in the attacking positions as he’s direct and as tons of pace.
