Of course we should take it seriously. Asterix or not, who cares, they won PL, you think they care about asterix? No, they don't. Just like @dove said, we need to win trophies to catch up, and also give us a bit confidence and belief we can continue winning in the future.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
I get the feeling, winning any trophies this 2020 doesn't really have the "same feel" to it.
It's somewhat similar to clubs winning trophies during pre-season tournaments (not WC or Euro <- those are international).
It feels "empty" like "k.." or "hmm.."

Nonetheless, the trophy will still counts. And I want FA Cup back, and our FAC collection to increase, we need one more to equal.

FAC most wins,
  1. Arsenal (13)
  2. United (12)
Win it!

Obertans #1 fan.
Probably just easier to delete it from the history books. Feels a bit sad with our potential FA Cup trophy but it has to be done.
Yeah. In the interest of fairness as a United fan I would give up our FA Cup trophy if we won it this year. I think it is only fair.

Is this a serious question?
We haven't won anything in three years.

Bloody no! Get top 4 and get Champions League. Missing out on players like Sancho but getting an FA cup is just proactively stupid.

Rotate the squad.

Penna, I love the FACup.
But I have always loved United fans for lack of bias and objectivity.
Can you disagree with the statement:

“any trophy won after lockdown lifted is nowhere near as valid as a normal trophy win.”
I think that is fair.
Well, certainly in the case of the PL title. However, knock-out cup competitions are a bit different, I reckon.

Of course. We’ve a deep enough squad for it and we’re in the quarterfinals. It also gives us the chance to keep up with Liverpool trophy wise. FA cup just became more important to us as far as I’m concerned.

Listen, I absolutely love the FA Cup. I think it is an amazing competition and I enjoy it every year.

But tbh, I’ve only just found out we are in it this year. On one hand lifting that trophy would be amazing, but it is also obvious that any trophies won from after we come back will not really mean as much. We wouldn’t be proper FA Cup winners for the season as the trophy will always have a massive asterisk next to it.

How does everyone else feel? I’d give my left testicle to win the trophy normally... this year just would feel off.
Actually for cup trophies, all teams experience the new conditions equally so I don't think the value of the competition has been hurt.

Other competitions though, like the league, where some teams have played more games behind closed doors, have been horribly compromised and obviously cannot be taken seriously.

I can't remember why I joined this war.
Why wouldn't we want to win... oh wait. I get what you are doing. By saying we don't care about this trophy because trophies this season mean less we can lower the value of Liverpool's title. Very clever. :smirk:

jk let's win the damn thing

We absolutely should try and win the FA Cup, that goes for any competition or match we play in.

This is a young squad with a growing manager and winning a trophy will do them world of good. So yes any trophy this season would be wonderful, * or not

If nothing else it will be a memorably unique cup final. Hell yeah, I want us to be the ones to win it.

The argument that a certain competition wouldn't mean as much because of Covid 19 can only be applied to the CL and the EL if they cut out two legs. The league is played 38 games and whoever wins the most points is Champion. Simple. The Fa Cup has always been a sudden death competition without return legs. It always gave the underdog a fighting chance and in my opinion that is excactly what makes it so special. I always viewed that United should really try to win the Fa cup every year but its not, nor will it ever be a measurement of our overall season or improvement. Just a special day in the football calendar.

We were never going to win the league this year so a perfect season for me would have been top four and winning the FA Cup and Europa which are all realistic.

The momentum we would carry into next season would be huge and would almost certainly see us keep Pogba whilst probably motivating him as well as signing Sancho, I think we should take see every game for the rest of the season as a cup final so yes we should take it seriously.

Mmmm.....what kind of a thread is this. Of course we should go for it & the Europa. It might not be the cream of the crop but it’s trophies at the end of the day & obviously a massive platform for us to build from. Also winning silverware would also attract players. It’s a win win IMO.

I usually love the FA Cup and the Europa would be a nice prize in any other season but I`m not bothered this year as I agree that with all the disruptions and rule changes that the winner of any tournament can`t be taken too seriously . At the time of lockdown and football was put on hold a lot of teams lost momentum but more importantly other teams that were struggling for form had time to regroup and stop a potential collapse of their season so it definitely makes any trophies won a bit dubious .

This is true. I just know that I’d try and celebrate but.. it would be somewhat hollow. Apart from the league cup, any trophy won this year wouldn’t properly mean anywhere near as much as usual.
Even the trophy would feel hollow.

Take it seriously for the winning experience and team spirit, but it obviously won't be the same feeling as normal. Given that our best team has rarely played together this year, the more games for them the better, to go into next season as a formidable group.

Yes, of course. The League and Europa should take priority, but I think that we have the necessary depth (especially now that Pogba and Rashford have returned) to compete in all fronts. After all, the players have had a nice three-month break, there are 5 subs allowed, they should be able to handle this.

I don't think that there is an asterisk for the cup or the league, or European competitions. It is different scheduling, but no asterisks in my book. Unless we are talking with the Scousers, in which case, obviously, their title is worthless and should be counted negatively.

If the entire point of the thread was to put an asterisk to Liverpool's trophy, then absolutely right, fair is fair.

Winning 2 trophies (albeit not the ones we want) will go some way in the team gaining confidence in their ability and confirms that the team is evolving in the right direction.
Also, after the dippers title win, it will help me sleep better knowing we won something.
I want the FA Cup every season. Still pisses me off that we didn’t win it in 2008 alongside the PL and CL to complete a second treble.

Fighting for 4th or cruising the league, I’ll always want it

After the embarrassment City have endured I`m fully expecting them to go all guns blazing for the FA Cup what we may want in this competiton is irrelevant. We need to put our full focus on the Europa League but I question whether Ole much as I like him can mentally galvanize the team to win it. If we had Mourinho I`d be confident we`ll go all the way.
We defeated City 3 times in the last four matches. There is absolutely no reason to fear them.

Mason Greenwood can't become the first player to score a hat-trick in an FA Cup final since erm the last player who scored a hat-trick in an FA Cup final if we don't take it seriously, so tomorrow is the most important game of the season so far, none of this go through the motions/don't get injured nonsense, let's win it.

Firstly let me say nothing is better than winning the Premier league or the CL but the FA cup has to be respected and is a trophy still worth winning. Yes we SHOULD take it seriously and the Europa League as well, it's a chance to win two trophies

This typically only becomes an issue because of fatigue from playing non stop since August. The players just had a 2 month break and now get water breaks. We arent near the kind of situation where it's a pick one scenario.

We aren’t good enough to turn momentum on & off again.

We’re getting 5 subs & water breaks - we should be pursuing the Top4 & FA Cup wholeheartedly. European competition has been removed till the end of the season & they’ve had 2 months off, time for excuses is up - play to win in every game.

Win everything or at least aim to. It’s the only way. Take winning seriously, every game, whether it’s FA Cup, midweek prem game, EL or CL. Win.

Think we're destined to lose v City or Chelsea in the final anyway. It'd be just like us, do the double over both and then lose a trophy to them.

Normally I would agree with you. Those trophies would be massive.

But... don’t you agree that any trophies won this year wouldn’t feel the same? It would say
Man United Fa Cup Winners 2020*

*Unfortunately there were numerous rule changes and a massive break in between the competition so it will never be seen as a true trophy win.

edit - for example, I’ve just remembered that Liverpool won the title last night. In normal circumstances I would be gutted as obviously this is bad for a United fan but all I feel is “...meh”. I don’t think that league title will be remembered so much as the somewhat dodgy circumstances of the win.
Of course it's better to win a trophy, it gives the players (and manager) that winning mentality and hopefully spurs them on to want to win even more.

Even with an *.

It's a trophy, we should go for it. But focus should be on Europa, it's our best chance for CL football if City's ban doesn't hold up.
Europa will be played at the end of the season when league matches are over.

As of now we need to concentrate both on Top 4 and FA cup. Field a mixture of main team and second team for the Norwich game. The final of FA Cup will be played once the league gets over. Only we need to field a strong team in the semis. Other than that we can easily concentrate both on Top 4 and FA cup.

We absolutely need both Europa and FA cup to increase our trophy count.

Winning FA cup gives us a chance to win community shield and it would be nice to having a go against the scums in the Community shield game.

Winning Europa gives us a chance to win Super cup.

We badly need to close the trophy count and we need to win every thing from now on.

Here in Blighty we don't much care for the Super Cup, it's probably behind the Charity Shield in order of important.
