So, after two games, what should be our team? Or three now.

We have seen the broad part of our players trying to adapt to the new style of football. So, based on what we have seen to far, who should be our starting 11?

We won't have a starting 11. Amorim has already said the team will change based on the opposition.

This was how fergie used to play, with an eye on who put in a shift in the previous game, who the opposition is and who's going to be key in the next game.

Onana
Maz DL Martinez
Amad Ugarte Bruno Shaw
Mount Hojlund Garnacho
I realize we haven't tried Shaw as a LWB yet, but I think he's the most suitable player we have for that role.

Onana
Mazraoui De Ligt Martinez
Amad Ugarte Bruno Shaw
Mainoo Hojlund Mount

Next season we should buy RWB and LWB, move Amad forward and Shaw to LCB.

Also, I purposefully put Mazraoui, Amad, Ugarte, and Mainoo on the same side. That right side would be tasty.

I’d be happy with this with Shaw pushing Martinez for the LCB slot if he can stay fit and expecting Yoro to be quality even though I’ve never seen him play.

I’d see Mainoo being a sub for any of Bruno, Mount & Amad and fighting for a first 11 spot depending on form.

Onana
Mazraoui/Yoro De Ligt Martinez
Amad/Mazraoui Ugarte Mainoo Shaw
Amad/Kirkzee Hojlund Mount/Garnacho

I think those are the core players and where ideally based on tactics. But if we were playing say Liverpool. I’d think Yoro, De Ligt Martinez
Mazraoui as RWB, Amad one of the 10s with Mount the other.

When it’s teams we expect to dominate. Then Amad RWB, Mazraoui RCB, with Zirkee and Garnacho as the 10s

Well, a best team then.

Yep agreed. When Yoro is fit I imagine he comes in at RCB and one of Mount/Amad is benched.

De Ligt so far looks unconvincing in Amroim's back three, I would play Martinez there for his superior passing. When Yoro is fit maybe push Mazraoui up to RWB.

I want to see Yoro and Maguire both play in this system first, along with Maz/Shaw/Garnacho all tried at wingback before making a definitive statement.
I think Yoro is a bit away from starting, at least it sounded on Amorin there was no rush. Yes, more test on the wingbacks, and I'd like to see both Amad and Mainoo as number 10s.

My worry, is that end up with a team that are too light weight.

Or Dalot. He has been in poor form lately, but still, it's not that long ago he won Player of the year. He has the capacity to be good for us and this team may need his physicality.

Onana
Maz - MDL - Martinez
Amad - Ugarte - Mainoo - Shaw
Mount - Rashford
Hojlund

I'll probably get pelters for this but I don't like Bruno in this setup as a centre mid and I think as a 10 Mount's style of play suits the setup more, I also think Garnacho needs a rest and not to start every game, his wastefulness is starting to grate at times. If Rashford can be more industrious i'd like to see him in that position cause I don't think he's the better number 9.
Once everyone is fit we'll probably see something like..

Onana
Yoro - MDL - Martinez
Maz - Ugarte - Mainoo - Shaw
Mount/Bruno - Rash/Garnacho
Hojlund
I don't buy the Zirkzee thing i'm sorry, I don't write him off on his ability because he clearly has some, but he doesn't look like he can come to grips with the speed and the physicality at the league, at least when Hojlund isn't playing his best you can say he at least competes in this regard, Zirkzee feels like the complete opposite of what Amorim wants out of his 9.

I want to see how Maz does in the wingback role. We have enough CBs who should be good enough, if Maz can be just as good at WB on either side, then we'll do much better.

Onana
Maz DL Martinez
Amad Ugarte Bruno Shaw
Mount Hojlund Garnacho

That's a very open midfield. They got through it plenty today and they were a very poor team, this isn't going to be good enough Vs a half decent pl team imo.

I think people have unrealistic expectations to a 18 years old coming to play in the PL.

Maz Deligt Martinez
Amad Ugarte Bruno Shaw
Mainoo Hojlund Garnacho

Oh I don’t think we’ll have any sort of obvious set team honestly, too many mismatched pieces. But I do think by the spring we’ll have a very good idea of who is an obvious contributor moving forward and who isn’t.

Well after two games, we're playing Everton so we'll probably want a bit of height in the team.

Decent chance for Casemiro to start alongside Ugarte or Mainoo with Bruno further forward again. Dalot probably starts as well. Aside from that, Amorim said Rasmus was "dead" at the end of the game and that 4 of his changes were made solely due to fitness, so doubts all round.

Onana
Mazraoui - De Ligt - Shaw
Amad - Ugarte - Casemiro - Dalot
Bruno - Rashford - Garnacho
Would be my tentative guess. After three games, our team should probably be something else. Also, four. Probably five, too. After six, maybe it'll be something settled for a little bit. But I wouldn't count on it as we've got nine games in December.

I don’t know and I don’t think Amorim knows either. I fully expect him to tinker the next couple of months to work out who is useful and who isn’t.

Spoiler: not Antony

feck all you terrorists putting Amad at wingback. He didn't touch the ball in the opposition box for 91 minutes vs Ipswich, he deserves to play in one of the 10 positions.

He got an assist and he also got into shooting positions a lot over the last 2 games. He’s posing a threat there, linking well with Mazraoui, and most importantly covering the ground well. He might work well as a 10 but I think we need some stability in positions that are working whilst e we figure out the rest. Let him build some momentum.

This:

Onana
Mazraoui - De Ligt - Shaw
Anthony - Ugarte - Bruno - Genacho
Amad - Mount
Hojlund

Hard to say. There will be a good amount of rotation and competition for places which is good. Fitness will be big. Assuming people can stay fit, I think the following will just play most minutes:
  • Onana
  • Mazraoui
  • De ligt
  • Dalot
  • Bruno
  • Ugarte
  • Hojlund
  • Garnacho
And then this next batch getting plenty but maybe not automatic starters for every single minute, just because of competition.
  • Martinez
  • Shaw
  • Amad
  • Mount
  • Mainoo
Think this will be the core for Amorim while others are more on the fringes. How does that turn into an 11?

Onana
Mazraoui De Ligt Licha/Shaw
Dalot/Amad Ugarte Bruno/Mainoo Dalot/Shaw
Mount/Bruno Garnacho
Hojlund

Agree, perhaps omit Mount, put Bruno on the right, and Mainoo in midfield instead for more control and less risk in the transitions. I think the defensive issues are just about solvable with current squad, but not the lack of control and mobility in midfield. Upfront, I really hope Garnacho's team mates are telling him to look up more when he's in the box. There have been so many occasions where he's shot when others were in better positions with more space

I long to see Kobbie again! Yoro will be really interesting, since he played in a back three on France. That will make it possible to play Maz at RWB as well.

Further, I love that Amorim subs players all over the place. Not risking injuries on players just coming back, players looking tired etc. That will also make players be on their toes.

Two games, zero injuries. Hope that continues!

On-Topic, I think he is looking for a group of 6-7 players to be regulars and then rotate the rest to match the opposition.

This would be my first team based on the 2 games.

To all people putting Shaw on wing: he can’t play a fullback let alone wing back position because it is too much pressure on his fitness. That is why Amorim uses him as CB, trying Malacia and Dalot on the left. The reason Shaw is constantly injured is that his body can’t handle wing position.

Fair point. But there is a core. It’s Onana. Bruno is there. Hojlund probably. De Ligt at the middle of defence, Shaw and Maz either side, at least till Yoro is ready. Mount and Ugarte nailed on. Hopefully Mainoo back soon going beside Ugarte. That leaves the wing backs. Not Anthony, at least not yet. Or Malacia, Dalot can put in a shift.

He's still the best option we have now. But we absolutely need to buy a new LWB.

Onana, Mazraoui and Ugarte are my only certainties. Everyone else is playing for their place IMO.

Onana
Yoro - De Ligt - Licha
Maz - Ugarte - Mainoo - Garnacho
Dalot - Bruno
Hojlund
Imo that would be our strongest 11, Garnacho works really hard off the ball and is best used out wide in space, I really think the LWB role suits him. Amad needs to be closer to goal and in that position can score or pick out players in the box (Garnacho making wide and late runs). The rest don't really need any explanation.

From what we currently have available:

Onana
Mazraoui — De Ligt — Shaw
Amad — Ugarte — Mainoo — Dalot
Mount — Fernandes/Garnacho
Hojlund
When Yoro returns I’d like to see him in CB, Mazraoui wing back, and Amad no.10
