Ugo Ehiogu - always thought he could have played at a higher level. Although Villa weren’t a bad side whilst he was there.

Kevin Nolan, Gareth Barry, Mark Noble, Morten Gamst, David Bentley, Ryan Shawcross. A lot of players, who have been named, from Everton a couple of years ago. Same with Bolton 05 and even Blackburn maybe 07.

I agree with those who said Mark Noble. Wouldn't get into a top 4 side but a cracking professional all the same and for longevity has to be near the top of everyones list.

You could rename the thread 'Everton players not good enough to step up to top-4'

------------------------Howard
Hibbert Stubbs Lescott Baines
Osman Barry Arteta Pienaar
-------------Cahill Ferguson
Lescott left to form a great partnership with Kompany to win the league title in the same team that Gareth Barry played for.
Arteta after his mobility was gone due to a cruciate injury was still good enough to go and captain a top four team .
The Baines shouts are just insulting, he was probably the best left back in the league for a good two seasons and turned down Bayern Munich.

First names that came to me were Barry and Milner.

Currently - JWP, Mee, Bardsley, Noble, Coleman, Zaha, Dann and Cresswell.

Historically - Gary Speed, Batty, Les Ferdinand, Hangeland, Dempsey, Arteta, Cahill, Southgate, Shawcross, Distin, Southall. Anyone else who played enough at Everton under Moyes.
Southall

That is enough RedCafe for one day.

Harsh on Speed, Batty and Ferdinand.

Edit: and Southall. Top keeper in his prime.
Southall - ... doesn't belong anywhere near this topic (despite the fact that he became a walking pie shop later in his career)... top 2 or 3 keepers in the league for most of the 80s... won league titles and the ECWC not to mention footballer of the year in 85... the backbone of a dominant Everton team.

He was but he fits the OP description no? I'm not sure he was ever even considered for a title winning team but he was a very solid player able to lead a pretty decent Villa side
Yeah I am sorry I didn’t read the OP, he was a quality player at Celtic think he could have easily played in a top team.

How about Jonny Walters? According to Wiki, made 243 PL appearances, scoring a respectable 43 goals from a variety of positions, mainly in midfield.

Emile Heskey is possibly a good example as well. Over 500 PL appearances and although he did play for Liverpool (quite a lot) , his time there was not really deemed a success.

Used to train chimbonda the cf gym I coach at, absolutely shocking movement mechanics but absolutely high on life every day
Used to walk round the room clapping his hands and doing this weird “ha haaaaa” laugh
He took a payment off the PFA for retirement through injury which prevented him ever resigning for a pro team again so he played for a couple semi pro teams trying to gain promotion

He might have been a lot better in the 80s. But in the PL he was a solid performer for what was a mostly shit Everton team. He might have been a over weight and approaching the end but at that point that's what he was. So yeah, l'd say he was a solid but unspectacular Premier League player.

Marc Albrighton - won the league with Leicester and puts in good performances.

Stewart Downing - Was pretty solid for a few seasons.

Danny Ings - Has been great for Southampton.

Pienaar, Osman, Darren Bent, Hangeland, Downing, Lescott, Distin, Konchesky. Most of Moyes' Everton.

Fellaini? :nervous:

The OP did say ‘not quite good enough to play for a top side’. Among the suggestions there are a shedload of players who have either won or challenged for league titles.

I'd have Robbie Keane well above the solid tier.

126 Premier League goals, quality player. But as the OP said, not quite good enough for a top side as his time with Liverpool and Inter showed.

Think your bar’s a bit high here. On Southgate both Manchester United and Deportivo tried to sign him from Villa.

Chelsea had a few around the time they were taken over - zenden, geremi, malchiot. All very decent players

Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Always loved that guy. Absolute wand of a left foot. He is average, but also spectacular. Weird.
