That’s certainly one option. Being completely forgetful is another.

Or just having a knee jerk. Easy to forget we’ve won like 7 away games in a row. Let’s not mention home form though.
    No, lets not.
Nothing surprises me any more but the lack of leaders on the pitch are costing us. Heads drop far too quickly.

This is a typical game when the opposition are good at set pieces, and were not good at defending them, Wardprowse is a specialist at these and 2 pin point ones 2 goals. The errors they have made we don't get 2 goals. Over playing in final 3rd . We get to 2-1 early in 2nd we get at least a draw. Longer it stays as it is they get 3rd game over. It's ups and downs this season for lots of teams. Most consistent will win in.

Strange half. We’ve played reasonably well but find ourselves 2 down from set pieces. Should be taking all chances

some good link up play and balls through their midfield.

only confusion is why we don’t appear to have a striker/focal point with Rashford and Greenwood drifting wider with Bruno and VDB pressing from deep. good to see Cavani on

Why does Dr gea dive behind the line surely on set pieces you stand a foot in front of the the line at least

Someone tell Rashford to stop fecking walking and start pressing.
Tell Bruno to stop being cute and fancy and losing the ball every time he bloody gets it.
Someone tell Maguire to stop 5 godforsaken fecking century long touches before passing the damn ball.

We got the ball to our forwards often enough, and in good goal-scoring positions too, but they failed to convert their chances.

Same old story, we're shocking in front of goal.
Only really remember Greenwood running around the keeper and pouncing on the goalie mistake, it’s not enough. The forward pair have got to take some of the blame, they are blowing too hot and cold in the match, but the delivery into the box is poor and there is little penetration with our passes.

First goal he's to blame for me, the second one not sure what he could have done.
Agreed. Second goal was perfect but for the first goal, the basic rule is that you clean everyone out to get to that ball, Schmeichel style.

Missed two easy chances, DDG should have done slightly better IMO but again we gave away set-pieces knowing full well how good JWP is at them. We are just too soft other than Bruno. VDB is doing alright. Disappointed in Rashy and Mason

I can't get away from the feeling that the likes of Bielsa, Klopp, Rodgers, even Hasenhüttl would get a better tune from these instruments than Ole and co. Ole just looks lost watching this game.

Maguire isn't at fault for any of the goals here. He's looked fine. 2 quite incredible set pieces and 2 goals.
No one is at fault apart from fred for giving away the fk.

Rushford maybe but why is he on a cb to begin with

It's the other way round. The FK was un-saveable, it's literally gone in next to the post. The Corner he is stood there like a year 3 playing in net vs year 11s. He's so weak in the commanding the box, luckily the rest of his game propels him up.
But how he (or any other gk) can reach that ball?? It is not even on first post.

That’s the point. It’s not like we should expect another glut of chances after that. Those are the chances you simply must take at this level against a solid PL outfit like Southampton or you get punished. We’re naive at best, feeble in reality.
But that does not mean we are a shambles. As I said we are not good enough to miss chances and expect to beat a good team like Southampton.

I don't think we've been good at all. Both our chances were courtesy of mistakes... And whilst we battled okay before their goal we weren't really doing a lot.

After the first goal we've been shocking.
Yep. Mostly just hoof the ball. Non existent on the right side, with AWB as worse player on the pitch. And Rashford and Greenwood were on their period, Bruno couldn't get involve because it's all chaotic play.

    Playing like mid-table team.

We've simply been done by two quality set pieces.

Before that, we were by far the better team and really should have been a goal up.

Even at 1 nil we had a great chance to equalise but wasnt meant to be.

Tough task at 2 nil to come back, but the game isnt over.

Think if we can get the goal then we can hopefully push on to get the equaliser.

Matic hasn't done anything wrong as such but I'd take him off for Cavani and drop Vdb into midfield with Fred.

Need to go for this now.

You cant play strikers like Rashford and Greenwood without a focal point who can hold on to the ball under pressure and try to interlink the attackers to the midfielders.

That's why no matter how hated Martial is, he does well between Rashford and Greenwood. In my opinion Van De Beek would do better between Rashford and Greenwood trying to interlink our attackers and our midfielders together with his first touch and short passing playing as a false 9/CAM rather than having Bruno trying to play through balls to them as a CAM pretending that Greenwood and Rashford are traditional number 9's which they are not.

Bruno Fernandes can long shot and play through balls from deeper in my opinion especially when he has 2 other midfielders like Fred and Matic providing him extra defensive cover to get forward when needed.

He's not captain material. Why is Bruno not our captain?
If I was manager Bruno would have been given the captaincy with Maguire’s Greek incident. Guilty or not he shouldn’t have put himself into that situation.

Yeah that’s another possibility, could just be another thing to add to a long list of stupid things done by Fred.
Keane making that point right now "sloppy" "my eyes don't lie to me". Savaged him.

Such games we need someone with low center of gravity, someone who can run and dribble with the ball, someone who can invite fouls. Someone like Pellistri.
You'd put an 18 year old who's only just finding his feet in the youth team in a senior game? Brilliant.

He's only just showing glimpses of what he can do in that set up but you'd want someone like Romeu ending his season with one challenge

Keane's analysis was spot on there.

Greenwood is also off-form. Never mind Fernandes' follow up, Greenwood would have buried the goal to either side a few months back.

Does anyone realistically see us coming back into this one? More dropped points - whether it's 2 or 3 is what is up for debate. We'll do well to make top 4 this season. One step forward, two steps back.

His team has done very little wrong though to be fair. Fred fouling from behind was stupid, but other than that we got beaten by world class precision, twice

Everyone saying we've played well. No, we played okay for the first 20 minutes or so. Every chance we've had has been because of a mistake on Southampton's behalf. it's not like we've created chances at will.

Watch literally any other keeper in the league and they come for that, why shouldn't he?
He's 6ft 4, can use his hands and will probably get a free-kick anyway if challenged whilst going for it.
    It's common sense/basic goalkeeping.

If it was just a one off then fair enough but this is every single time a cross comes near him.
He may as well go and have a coffee break when a cross comes near him, because people think it's ok to just stand there like a statue anyway.

No, literally every keeper isn't going to try and run or jump through players crowding him to get to a cross he's never getting closed to. Southampton crowd that area, all the time, on set pieces and aim for exactly what happened on their first goal.

The main fecking issue is that the southampton player, even though he's surrounded by 4 United players, reacts first and gets on the cross.

The second goal is a goalkeeper issue

everyone blaming fred but loads of players give away free kicks there. not a huge fan of fred but just because they get a free kick shouldn't guarantee a goal but as soon as I saw the swall set up and where ddg was standing, I knew it was in
