Spurs 26/27 | Flashing the cash

Bournemouth will get better, they've kept their squad intact. See no reason why Villa will get worse either, one of the few PL teams that have a settled Manager.

I see next season as a lottery. So many clubs have new Managers that anything could really happen. Top 6 will be as tight as normal and the lack of European football will help Tottenham and Chelsea. We will probably struggle to adjust.

The big issue I have with Tottenham is they simply cannot keep their squad fit. They break down and have an injury crisis which results in their form dropping off a cliff.

Bournemoth, I see them selling in the past 2 years like crazy - their biggest star was Semenyo and he hasnt been replaced - Rayan is looking like a good talent but young still. Krouppi who i also like is really young to carry them, and if he breaks through i'd expect a few clubs come knocking in the winter window. They did sign a young Portuguese CB who i always liked on FM

As for Villa, Tiellmans and Rogers will be a big loss for them - i know nothing about Manzambi but i do know Nacho is shite.

The big question for Bournemouth is Andoni Iraola leaving and whether they can continue their upward trend with Marco Rose. But I don't expect them to sell this Summer.

Emery finds a way, he always does. Id say Youri is the bigger blow, they don't really have a press resilient nor a proper passing midfielder. Certainly a big hole in their squad that will need replacing.

Gakpo is rubbish. Tel with consistent game time is a better option that Gakpo. It would be spending money for the sake of it.

Yeah, not spending £70m on him
I don't really care about the fee tbh, the player either has the attributes we're looking for or they don't.

It's easy to say every player is meh, less easy to identify better options. Even unrealistic alternatives like Barcola who'll cost £120m+ are widely criticised.

That’s a ridiculous fee

I think he’s better than most give credit for but yeah.
It's only ridiculous if there aren't loads of better options.

Spurs need a goal-scoring wide forward, preferably one with a proven track record in a top league. So far the only alternative mentioned is Rashford. I do agree with @Maluco in that Tel could be that player but then going into the season banking on that happening is a big risk and we still need another player in that position anyway.

He’s a £50-55m player.

How do you come to that calculation?

Just like with every big transfer so far this summer, they are all apparently 20-40m "overpriced". Or maybe that's just the market rate now?

Even if we assume your valuation is correct, if Spurs see Gakpo as the best option available then maybe they consider it worth it to overpay 15-20m than get a less good player for their perceived correct value. My main counter is that if players like he and Savinho are seen as "meh", then what players out there would be seen as good signings for Spurs? If there were a bunch of players as good as or better than Gakpo/Savinho for £50m then I'm sure we'd be targeting them instead.

I mean surely you don’t believe he’s worth 70m? Or do you?

Just so I know where your heads at.

The market has been inflated, especially PL to PL club, but it’s still an overpriced signing. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable statement.

They're spending obscene money on players that aren't really going to do that much. End up with a 300m spend to finish 7th

I don't know. How many on this list are worth the fee paid - https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/saisontransfers

£70m puts him around Goncalo Ramos/Anthony Gordon territory and a bit more than Summerville. Is that unreasonable company for Gakpo?

This debate isn't going where I intended. I don't care about the fee, I just want you lot to throw some names at me of attacking players Spurs could sign that aren't "meh" and aren't unrealistic.

Left wingers?

I honestly don't rate Gakpo at all. You'd be better off going with what you already have than spending big money on him. He's an alright, decent-ish player. I don't think he moves the needle in any way.

Some good alternatives could be Nusa, Leao, even someone like Ezzalzouli would probably be a smarter option than Gakpo.

Villa have lost their best players.
Bournemoth lost their manager.

250m on three players: two known quantities that are average-to-decent but not great and one prospect. It makes the kind of money we pissed up the wall under Woodward look sensible.

Spurs fans could easily find themselves longing wistfully for the days of Levy in the near future.

If you are determined to overpay on a left winger playing in Liverpool Ndiaye is a far better player and would probably cost about the same too.

I really think Tel has something. He had a hard time initially but there were glimpses even then. He was a prodigy at Bayern in his teens for a reason. He is a gem if he gets the backing in my opinion.

Last thing I would want is his progress hampered by Gakpo. He has potential to be twice the player.

My crazy prediction of the season. Spurs top 4.

Not all that crazy. They have no European football and a very good platform now with Van Hecke/Senesi/Tonali/Fernandes in the square at the spine of the team.

Barring something really crazy happening, Arsenal should be locks for top four (or five), City also unless they get a point deduction. Newcastle will be a non-factor, Villa is going to struggle with a packed schedule and no Rogers/Tielemans/Onana. So the remaining spots are likely up for grabs between United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Spurs IMO. Those are good odds and they get even better if City do get punished.

I don’t think they are getting top 4. They have spent a lot of money and improved their midfield, but I don’t think their defensive signings are particularly special and their attack still lacks goals.

Gakpo on board would be great if it takes 70 million out of their budget, he wouldn’t improve them at all.

I think Europa League needs to be the target. City, Arsenal and Chelsea are spending big, Liverpool have a great coach on board and United have arguably signed two midfielders that are just as good as Spurs combo and have a much better attack/more creativity.

Bournemouth will be playing Thursday-Sunday regularly so that will stretch them compared to last season. Also have Kroupi Jr out until November which is big blow.

That is the thing these days, half the prem pretty much having to play congested European schedules and only really Arsenal and Man. City are proven at handling multiple competitions from January onwards as even Liverpool when they won the prem went out of CL by early March so feels inevitable to me Bournemouth and Sunderland will both drop down the league and probably replaced by Chelsea and Spurs.

Given their London shopping I actually think Ismalia Sarr would be a really good signing for Spurs. Probably only issue is Kudus is getting fit again and he'd probably go nuclear if he was forced to go back to the left but at same time this isn't some Balon D'or potential winner we're on about. He barely did anything for Spurs before he got injured in January (2 prem goals in 19).

Kudus is actually someone forgotten about but you'd think De Zerbi should get more out of him than Frank did.

Can also see them being offered Rashford but he said a while back he wasn't keen on moving to London.

I actually rated Oderbert more than Tel when I've watched him, is he out of the picture then?

I don't think it's crazy. Both Spurs and Chelsea could have a strong league season with no European football, like we did last season when Carrick came in. Was same for Newcastle recently in two seasons when they had no Europe.

Isnt he younger than Tel? Both are still young inexperienced players so I can understand them going for someone else on the left that has a bit more experience.

And looking at the players on the way out the spend of 300mil is probably being mostly recouped, Bergvall, Richarlison, Romero, Sarr, Soloman, Vicario all still to exit.

Same age, I believe. I would just be interested if he was available, to be honest. Good player in there.

Spurs are definitely in with a shout for top 4/5, possibly more. They are building well, De Zerbi is a top coach and they will have one key game per week.
Same for Chelsea, top coach, good squad improvements and one game a week.

Assuming all teams do their necessary business, I'd say the top 4/5 will be contended by Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Spurs, United, Chelsea and Villa. It will be close, with maybe 2 or 3 of those teams breaking away to contend for the title.

My prediction... City vs Liverpool vs Arsenal for the title. Chelsea vs Spurs vs United vs Villa for top 4/5.

Theres a chance of top 4, but a much bigger chance they replace Chelsea at 10th. They're probably going to do better than the past 2 seasons but there is also the chance they dont.

That’s a good season after two years at 17th.
They are clearly spending to avoid a relagation situation which would have cost way more than £300 million in the long run. They recon it would have cost around £260 million in the first season alone.

They'd already spent more than enough to not be in that situation. They've signed players who were good. Their position should be a false one allowing you to bounce back, like we did by doing logical things.

Again they signed a player who scored 19 league goals after finishing 5th. They have/had some decent players who have done well. They just need to be on form and have support from the other players and a manager playing the right tactics. So really they should be capable of 10th-7th without needing to spend a bunch of money. But they have anyway and perhaps if everything goes right that will push them from a midtable finish to europe or challenging for the top 4. But theres a bigger chance everything will go mid and they'll do a bit better than last season and thats all.

I just don't see the Value in their business. Could've spent a 3rd of that to be midtable. If it got the cl it would be worth it but I just don't see it. MF is a top talent but still needs time, Tonali is decent and works hard but not a top player, gakpo is average. I think their defence is marginally better than last year, and their forward options still aren't good enough. I think if Kroupi hadn't got Injured and they could've signed him, that could've been a game changing signing
