What will our squad look like, going into next season?

Things are bad. There is almost certain to be a mass exodus of players leaving this summer for various reasons. Rangnick has publicly stated we might need as many as 10 new players - and I dont think many would disagree.

Still, we have youth prospects and we have players out on loan who might be able to return and make up some numbers. There is also an acknowledgement that this rebuild is going to take a lot longer than one or two transfer windows. This will be a long term thing and we cannot hope to fix all our problems this summer.

So between departing players, new arrivals, youth promotions and loanees, roughly what do you think the 25-man first team squad will look like after the summer transfer window?

I think we will bring back/keep Williams, Amad, Donny and Pellistri. I also think that from the academy we could see more of Garner, Shoretire, Elanga, Hannibal and maybe on or two others.
I dont really have a clue about who we might go for in the transfer window, or how many players we will sign, but I can imagine going into next season something like this (being realistic);

-------------------------Henderson
AWB ------- Varane ---------------- Maguire --------- New LB
---------------------------New DM
---------------McT/Fred ------------ Bruno--------------------
Sancho -------------------------------------------- Elanga
--------------------------New ST-------------------------------

Bench: DDG, Shaw, Lindelof, McT/Fred, Donny, Amad, Rashford
Others in the squad: Williams, Garner, Shoretire, Hannibal, Pellistri

Obviously the above is far from perfect but again, we arent going to be able to fully replace 10 players and rebuild the entire squad in one transfer window.

GK: De gea, Heaton, *new young gk

FB: AWB, Dalot, Laird, *new fb1, *new fb2

CB: Maguire (hes not realistically leaving), Varane, Lindelof, *new cb1, *new cb2

CM: Mct, Fred, Bruno, Garner, Hannibal, *new cm1, *new cm2

Wings: Rashford, Sancho, Amad, Elanga, *new winger 1, *new winger 2

CF: *new cf1, *new cf2, ronaldo if he stays

11 signings in the summer is unrealistic so I would take 1 cb, 1 rb, 2 cm, 1 winger and 1 striker if ronaldo stays

My question is how do we move forward with the current CB issues?. Obv. Maguire Jones Bailiy Lindelof and Varane too are all unreliable for different reasons.. And we have a couple of CB out on loan who are worth a try out because everyone in the first team squad are utter shit.. Can we integrate a couple of lads into the first team?. What's the opinion on Tuanzebe because I have a feeling he's worth a shot as he could also play RB for us too..

Martial will be striker. Maguire will be captain. One of, if not both, McTominay and Fred will be starting in midfield. One or two new starting players maximum I think. Club doesn't have the capacity / knowhow to conclude a number of deals, particularly with how many outgoing transfers are needed.

I don't think there's a way in hell Maguire survives this season. If he does, he'll be a bench option for sure. I think it's the same with AWB.

Bruno has no business of being an 8, not in a million years. You basically take out a tactically inept but brilliant player like Pogba from the 8 position and you're replacing him with a worse 8 in Bruno.
I think it will be something along the lines of:

DDG
RB-Varane-CB-LB
DM
Fred- Garner/Mejbri/CM
Bruno
ST-Sancho

or

DDG
RB-Varane-CB-LB
DM-Fred
RW-Bruno-Sancho
Ronnie/ST

Anyway it will be a very difficult season because we let half our team leave on a free and we'd need to settle for a lot of loans/not top quality players.

I think we will have 5-6 signings this summer.

Matic, Pogba, Cavanni, Lindgard, Mata and Baily should all be shown the door.
Get Donny back and work on putting in tactics.
In the winter transfer period we can adjust with 1-2 if needed.

Tuanzebe isn’t remotely good enough for United, wasn’t even close at Aston Villa either. No special skills, get rid of him.

Love how all have Varane in next year's team when he can't even string more than 2 games together this year, he should go, earning mega money doing f-all,

I think we'll get Nunez, Neves and Timber. (as he can cover for Varane/Maguire and RB) Possibly Tielemans to replace Pogba.

It’s so depressing to look at  like.. is that what we have to deal with? Average players with poor technical ability who don’t even run or know how to position themselves

Yeah this ain’t it my brother.

The following need to leave or have already left.

AWB, Dalot, Henderson, Grant, Bailly, Jones, Matic, Mata, Lingard, Perreira, Pogba, Martial, Cavani and of course Greenwood.

If we are in for a CF, then I can’t see Ronaldo staying beyond this season especially if we’re out of the CL. He is going to want to go. Got a feeling he will go to whoever wins Serie A this season.

Going into next season, this would be my dream

1) David De Gea
2) Mazraoui/Cash
3) Varane
4) Rudiger/Timber
5) Shaw/Telles
6) Rice/ Tchouaméni
7) Neves/ Kamara
8) Fernandes
9) Sancho
10) Antony
11) Nunez/Nkunku

Bench/Rest of Squad: Johnstone, Lindelof, Maguire, Fred, McTominay, DVB, Hannibal, Garner, Williams, Rashford, Amad, Pellestri.

Only primaddona I see in this squad is Rashford.

obviously none of this will happen but it’s nice to know that most of our current bunch won’t be playing for us next season. One can hope anyway.

This will be the main squad backed up by youth players.
Have no idea who we might sign, I assume we'll see at least one Ajax player coming in.

GK- De Gea, Heaton, New Back up GK
Fullbacks- AWB, Dalot, Telles, Shaw(don`t think we buy anyone here till next summer)
CBs- Maguire, Varane, Lindelof, New CB
Midfield- New DM, Garner, McTominay, Fred, VDB, Hannibal, Bruno
Attack- New ST, Ronaldo, Sancho, Rashford, Elanga and one of Garnacho, Pellistri, Amad in the first team
I still don`t see us making that many signings unless we make an unexpected sale like Rashford which opens up a RW signing or if we get a good offer for one of our fullbacks.

I prefer to look at it from a different perspective. Who will be gone next season? This is my realistic wish list.

Pogba - all but confirmed
Lingard - all but confirmed
Jones - should leave if he wants to play
Cavani - all but confirmed
Perriera - looks to be sold, hopefully confirmed soon
Martial - can't see him wanting to stay but I would not be surprised to see ETH keep him due to other areas needing to be improved more and then loan again in January if he does not show any worth.
Matic - confirmed
Mata -all but confirmed or has it been confirmed?
Greenwood - most likely not going to be involved

Bonus leaves: Maguire & Telles. Neither are fit to wear the shirt.

Bring in CB, LB, DM, CM, ST/RW
Bonus buys: RB and another CM or ST.

it would be accountancy suicide but after watching yesterday i’d write off every single one of our assets that aren’t deemed capable of playing in whichever system we want to implement and start again. just pick a playing style and buy/promote as many young and hungry players that fit it and then replace as we need with more established players that would take us to a higher level over the next 3 or 4 years. accept we’re 8th and start again.

Scary seeing the likes of Henderson, AWB, Maguire, Rashford, Elanga and McTominay in starting elevens. They shouldn't be anywhere near.

Outgoings:
Henderson, Grant (coaching job), Bailly, Jones, Tuanzebe, Pogba, Mata, Lingard, Pereira, Matic, Martial, Cavani, Greenwood, Chong

Squad:
Keepers: De Gea, Heaton, New signing
RBs: Dalot, Laird, AWB
CBs: Varane, New signing, Lindelof, Maguire
LBs: Shaw, Telles
CDM: New signing, McTominay
CM: Bruno, New signing, Fred, VDB, Hannibal
RW: New signing, Elanga
ST: New signing, Ronaldo
LW: Sancho, Rashford

Loans/reserves: Williams, Garner, Pellistri, Amad

14 outgoing, 6 signings, a nicely consolidated squad and dramatically slashed wage bill.

honestly if this club was ruthless like it should be we could easily bring in 5-7 new players if that is what ETH and co wanted. For as much shit as we like to say there would be buyers for players like rashford/maguire/awb etc if we truly want to move them out. yeah we wont recoup the full money back but could get prob an average of 40 million per for those 3 after all said and done. Spend wisely and dont blow a whole damn budget on overpriced players like Rice and we could easily see a huge revamp. Wont happen obviously but if that is the route we go im all for it.

I think two CM, one a DCM and a box to box will be bought and McFred will be backup. Maybe at least one moved on if we promote Garner to first team or another youth player.

Who the feck knows. We need to be shipping around 7-8 players out at the very, very least though. Even if we only sign 3 or 4, have the more promising young players filling out those squad positions and there’ll be some actual competition for places again. As it is the likes of Matic, Mata and Lingard couldn’t give a toss if they play or not.

Mata, Matic, Lingard, Cavani, Jones, Pogba, Andreas and Martial absolutely have to go - no excuses.

I’d also listen to offers for Shaw, Maguire, Dalot, Wan Bissaka, Ronaldo, Bailly and Rashford although I don’t think the phones will be particularly busy. Even if we end up keeping them, they can’t be starters. We won’t win anything with Maguire in defence, it’s that simple. We should be looking to bring in 4 minimum, but in an ideal world we’d see something like this:

——————-——De Gea—————-
New RB—-New CB-Varane-Telles
———————-New DM——————
———New CM—————Bruno——
New RW——-New CF——-Sancho

So that’s 6 signings, all to go straight into the first 11. Obviously not realistic, but we can hope. Maybe Ten Hag can work some magic with Van De Beek and save us a few quid.

Being realistic.
De Gea
Dalot Maguire Varane Shaw
Kamara Fred
Antony Bruno Sancho
Darwin

Johnstone
Wan Bissaka Timber Lindelof Telles
McTominay Garner
Elanga Van de Beek Rashford
Martial

Heaton, Mengi, Hannibal, Garnacho as squad players. The rest sold or loaned out. The following window after that (or summer), replace pretty much all 4 fullbacks and the goalkeeper.

You can talk players all you want however, nothing gets better until things change massively at the very top.
It is no accident that life changed at Liverpool once John Henry and Fenway sports group became involved with the club. The Boston Red Sox hadn’t won a World Series in 86 years, then Henry took over the club and they have now won 4 in the last 20 years. The pattern seems to be repeating at Liverpool. What’s the secret?
United should take a good look at what is happening there.
Glazers need to go.

Expensive, probably around 300m, but if we sell players + the 200m that we should have to invest, it could happen, the bigger problem is to get all of these guys to believe in Manchester United again and not to play CL one year, but we need to bring in young players with WC potential that really wants to play for us.

Fred McTominey
Elanga De Beek Rashford

Maguire 35m
Jones FREE
Bailly 15m
Matic FREE
Pogba FREE
Lingaard FREE
Mata FREE
Andreas 5m

Cavani FREE
Ronaldo FREE

80m to reinvest and some big wagers gone

And we have some young lads that need to be in the first and get more minutes like Hannibal, Garnacho, Mainoo etc etc.

LB - Shaw Williams
DM/CM/AM - Fred McT VdB Bruno
RW/LW - Rashford Sancho Elanga
ST - Ronaldo

SELL THE REST.

I could see ETH building around Sancho and Donny, who have looked like forming a decent partnership and are suited to a more technical, possession-orientated system. I could perhaps see our starting XI as something like this;

-----------Henderson
RB --- Varane - Maguire - Shaw
---------------DM
-----McT/Fred --- Donny
Bruno --------------------- Sancho
--------------- ST -------------------

I think the Sosa rumour (since he appears to basically be Luca Digne but fast) fits with Bruno finally getting some playing time on the left wing and Timber as a more defensive right back option. We could lineup like this:

----------------------Cristiano--------------------------
--------Bruno--------VDB-------------------Sancho
--------------------------------Fred-------------------------
Sosa-----------------DM---------Timber----------------
-------------LCB------------Varane--------------------
---------------------De Gea?-------------------------------

and maybe a striker to rotate with Cristiano or replace him outright.

That's width on both sides in attack, Fred coming from right to left like Gravenberch does, Timber in the Kyle Walker type role he plays now. helping out the CBs and DMs to stop counter and link play there. 4 at the back in defence with a DM sitting and shielding like Alvarez does for Ajax or Fabinho or Rodri do. More of a 3-5-2 in attack with Sosa getting forward to hit crosses and Timber more defensively oriented.

Then we'd look to replace Fred in 2023, add a top striker if we don't this summer and just buy a cheaper backup for Cristiano, and maybe a proper left-footed RW type, and Sancho and Bruno can start with VDB getting lots of games.

Sounds like Uniteds strategy this summer is spend upto £80m on a striker and then look for Midfield / Defensive players on a budget of £150m net

Most of the squad leaving are on free transfers, and we have little to sell off, so that leaves around £70m to create a midfield and better defence.

So in affect we are no different to last 2 seasons, which is sign striker(s) paper over cracks elsewhere and pray for luck.

Granted we do need strikers but the neglect in Midfield should have been solved years ago and yet, here we still are. Screwed.

Agree with all of this. There's a sliver of hope for the rest of the squad.
The only 2 that I just don't think have the ability are Maguire and Telles.
I'd make up the numbers with the youths and only sign players who are nailed on starters going forward. We shouldn't spend over 50 million for a player from now on. That should be written in stone.

Oh and I'd add Bissaka to the list. Not good enough for a top team
