One of those paying serious attention to Summerville are Manchester United, the tricky winger ranking highly among multiple options being studied in case they recruit in that position.

United have enquired about his situation and will be aware that it is expected to cost approximately £50million for West Ham to sanction the departure of a player under contract until June 2029.

Much will depend on the future of Marcus Rashford, given that Barcelona did not activate the €30m buy option in his season-long loan (it expired on Monday).

Looks like you're shopping around for a rotation option on the wing rather than a proper standout signing.
 
So their valuation is going to be "double what we paid" for everyone, huh?
 
Would be a poor option, wouldn't really move the needle in squad quality.

Doesnt really make sense either since we're considering Dorgu as a LW this coming season, unless we've been priced out of a move for Hall.
 
We're in that period where a single half decent world cup appearance means sudden transfer rumours. Nothing but agents capitalising.

That's my concern. For too long we have been signing squad players who don't move the needle. If we want to Compete, our signings moving forward need to be much better than our current starters in each position bar the odd development signing.
 
Very quick and a good dribbler. Good finisher as well. 24 and can play both wings Unfortunately knowing WH, it will probably prohibitively expensive.

Not every signing "needs to move the needle". We need squad depth.
 
Most of signings for the last 10 years have basically been squad depth. Our first 11 isn't good enough yet so spend the money on Improving that and current starters will be pushed to squad depth.

When you are in our position of needing to improve so many first team positions - you don’t drop £50m on squad depth.
 
Decent player but doesnt add anything o what we have but depth, we already have young talents with a highre ceiling not ready and there are several young players here and abroad cheaper with a far higher ceiling, would be a total waste of part of our budget in my opinion

Here I was thinking that Ineos had improved the first eleven and we were lacking depth..

No I’m not.

This summer we need at least 2 midfielders, a left back, a striker. Then we should prioritise a CB, as we have two sicknotes and Maguire has a year left.

All of that is a priority over a reserve winger.

Why are we signing squad depth in a position where we don’t have a natural stand out starting player?

At that price, it’s negligent not to be in the mix for the better player (Diomande)
 
I’d be stunned at that price if we were anywhere near this. Can see him ending up at Newcastle or Spurs

We obviously need to improve both. Our best eleven is lacking quality in a few areas and we lack depth in other areas
 
Has been very good and a stand-out in a poor WH team every time I've seen him. Which were maybe 3 or 4 games, mind. Still, at a reasonable price, I'd be very happy. Seems a handful for the opposing fullback.

A player you assume is better because he plays in a weaker league. We’ve been down that road many times before.

So no one should ever sign a player from outside the pl as they may not be good enough? I would wager a bet over who is going to be the better player between Somerville and Diomande. We need to forget about Diomande though as we can't drop 100m on him

I agree, have said the same for a while. Although if we cannot buy someone who'll instantly improve us, ie Diomande, then I'd go for someone like Fernandez-Pardo who in time could.

They have and we need to keep focusing on Improving the first 11. Each starter that comes in creates squad depth relegating an existing starter down. Our team isn't good enough to spend 50m on squad players

Squad building within budgeting constraints is more complicated than just 'buy the best player available '

Huge difference between different diomande at £100mil and Summerville at £40mil - £50m.

If you feel spending 50m of our limited budget on a slightly above average pl winger to be a squad option is a good idea then we will just have to agree to disagree
 
I wonder would West Ham sell us both Fernandes and Summerville for ~£100m, it could be good business.

Summerville is one of those players people write off as “average” who then go on to an upper midtable team and boss it who then complain we didnt get him when “he was cheap” or he’ll just plateau.
 
I thought we were focusing on a left back rather than a winger.

I think Summerville is very, very good when he's playing well. I'm not sure how often that is.
 
Admittedly I do like him and I feel he’d be a cracking squad option - but £50m is a pisstake.
