Summerville | Ornstein: United make enquiries

Yep, he's an interesting one. I've watched a lot of him live last season and I like him.

He's able to beat a man from a standing start, we don't really have anyone who can do that.

We have issues opening up teams that sit back, and he's the kind of player that can make things happen.
Yeah I wouldn't be against this signing either

Honestly it's starting to look like no one has a bloody clue what we're doing.
We have to hope there's some strong secret plans and we're on schedule.

As from the media it looks like we've had to back away from all our main targets.

Monga makes a million times more sense (40 million in real money)
Kid not only has the raw potential, but he has that x factor about him and arrogance, which anyone coming to OT needs to really flourish.

Hes the sort of player that Fergie wouldve been doorstepping to get him to sign.
He's absolutely nowhere near ready for premier league football. Watched him play numerous times for Leicester in the championship last year and he didn't play well or particularly stand out. Half decent turn of pace off the mark but not that quick over a distance and struggled to beat his full back more often than not + without end product.

Of course he's still very young(turns 17 next week) and obviously clubs must see some potential in him but I'd be absolutely shocked if he plays regularly for that city team next year.

Stiller and a DM like Sangare under radar would be ideal, in terms of this guy I feel he could offer something we don't currently have in the squad

I think there is quite a bit of truth in that.

The previous regime leaked like a sieve but the current lot are fairly secretive. The issue for the likes of Jacobs is that they need to keep our name in their feed on a daily basis and so they will take the slightest hints and speculate on them until a whole narrative exists about what we are doing that is completely formed from "journalists" building on each others guesses and false conclusions. It is why it is best not to get too fired up about what we are doing until we actually announce something. We have quite a few people posting here who could take their best guess and probably get a lot more right than spoofers like Jacobs.

I don't think Summerville would be a terrible signing but I just don't think he takes us up a level. If we didn't have as many current options for LW I'd kind of understand it, but it makes significantly more sense to invest in a LB this summer and go big on a LW next year.

At the very top level your wingers should be your best players, your difference makers and I think we're missing that top echelon winger to make us a consistent threat throughout a season. Summerville just isn't that player so I say wait and see who's available next summer.

IF a Barcola was open to joining then of course I would prioritise that, however doubt that's the case

It's hilarious, everyone who doesn't join us is crap but actually spurs level signings are definitely the one. This forum is becoming more rawk than rawk

Agree with all of this. Summerville in isolation is a decent player and he's a different profile to the wide options we already have.

But he's also a blocker to future signings.

If you buy Summerville - add him to a newly signed Cunha & Mbeumo, as well as Amad who has a contract until 2030 - you're almost committing to that being your crop of wide players for the next few seasons.

And I don't feel that quartet is quite good enough to challenge for trophies. It lacks a genuine superstar, or potential superstar, level talent.

I know it seems like a pipe dream when we can't even beat Spurs to signings, and it'll probably remain one, but Vini Jr's contract expires in 2027. Maybe he'd fancy a Premier League move, maybe he has Wayne Rooney pyjamas? That's the type of signing that can make a team jump a level. It's also the type of signing that makes the club more attractive and an easier sell to other talents.

Barcola expires in 2028. A transfer next summer for him is very realistic.

Wouldn't Manzambi make far more sense than Summerville? He seems much more dynamic, has proved at this WC he can do it when the chips are down and I think he's far more compatible with Bruno as they both move around a lot and can find space easily. He's also got far more end product than Summerville.

There's talk of the fee being less than 50m too...

Just seems like a no-brainer.

Can also play CM.

Looks like that’s a done deal to Newcastle.

Apparently he only wants us. This should happen. Not sure why we’re signing him for though if we ain’t selling Rashford. Is the plan to rotate him with Cunha? Or maybe have Cunha up front and Summerville to the left. That could work as Cunha looks decent upfront for Brazil.

He hasn't just emerged at the WC, he was already looking good at Freiburg. I hope the ship hasn't sailed yet for him.

Just do not see it with this guy, would rather keep Rashford.
If we have learnt anything it’s that we need to get Rashford and his extortionate salary off the books. We’d have so much more wiggle room if we could.
What he delivers is simply not worth what we pay for him so I really don’t understand those that would prefer to keep him

I know. The WC for me was a chance for him to prove it on a bigger stage and he's done that and then some.

We gazumped Newcastle for Sesko and we can do it for Manzambi. Let them set the price and swoop in. We're not here to make friends.

Article states £40m, but West Ham may accept structured payments if it exceeds this amount. Otherwise £40m upfront.
We need to get it done.

Question has he ever played for City youth team before? Does Jason Wilcox know him personally? Apparently every important for potential Utd signings...

Like Sesko, Lammens, Cunha and Mbeumo?

Couldn't agree more, I didn't see much of him at Barca, but his showings in the WC have given me shudders if we are stuck with him next season. Summerville would be on alot less money, and has alot more about him than Rashford. But I'd be happy to just skip Summerville and Rashford and invest the money elsewhere in the squad.

Barca aren't daft, the fact they have gone with Gordon and walked away from Rashford says it all when Gordon has also got quite a bit of stick for his WC showings so far.

Sadly unless we pay for it then I don't see where Rashford goes though.

Since when? We’ve signed several players without any connection to Wilcox since he came on board. What’s this about?

Ah, great that we're already at the 'making things up to whinge about' phase of the transfer window.

Think he'd be a good addition at that price point. I'd feel calmer about going for him if we got in some more midfield reinforcements first though

For me its less about his quality and more about the position. I'd much rather spend 40-50m on a LB and let Dorgu be a LW understudy.

Such a made up pile of wank. Falling for every link the media has made to try and push that agenda.

Tend to agree, Amad, Dorgu, Mbeumo, and Cuhna, is pretty solid for the wings, plus the added complication of Rashford.

We need a striker to compete with Sesko really, but it's the midfield that has to come before everything else.

I mean if the alternatives are people like Summerville then I would rather keep him.

Spurs making move for Bruno G as well and all we hear about is we are interestes in Summerville the dutch Depay when weve got loads of wide players already

Isn’t Depay Dutch? I get the point though, winger is way down on our need list.

I highly doubt they are, more likely Arsenal. I wouldn't be against this signing provided it didn't affect midfield ones. However feels like it very much hinges on selling Rashford

We could beat Spurs to signings if we wanted and no play joins Spurs over us with a similar deal offered.
But we've decided not to go ludicrously high to do so. Putting a promising mid on 100k a week more than everyone bar Bruno in our squad would be utter mentalism.
That isn't a sign of weakness. That's smart.

Especially when it's relatively unproven 21 year old mids. If it was for Mbappe, Viniscus, Haaland or the likes it might have an argument.

Surely not. That's getting hilarious now.

This is the way. Many fans can't think past the next six months when it comes to transfers. Hopefully INEOS are.

Hopefully we make fewer transfers, but ones that actually solve problems. Rather than 5 guys who are more or less placeholders (a la summer 2024, which turned out to be a vast waste of money and future cause of headache).
